PEARL’S RESILIENCE MIXED USE // CAPSTONE
A wellness and vocational center in the Philippines for young women that encourages social relations and a sense of community to empower these adolescents ages 12-17 to speak up about their abuse.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION Pearls are formed from sand entering an oyster as an irritant. The oyster, in an attempt to defend itself from the foreign invasion, surrounds the Pearl with a calcite substance~ which becomes the Pearl. The irritant becomes the seed of beauty. Like the pearl, adolescents can radiate the beauty that comes from the healing process. MATERIAL PALET TE
Users are welcomed into the facility with a clean and crisp view of the lounge in the corridor that is defined by daylight and with view of the landscape outside as well as the view of the beach. Shades of yellows and greens contrast the ocean’s blues and add warmth into the space signalling a welcoming and friendly environment. This transitional and reciving space is important to establish the transformative and healing process.
ART CORRIDOR
The art corridor is the space that celebrates the works and craftsmanship of the users or adolescents. The space cannot be missed as it is adjacent to the bistro which allows them to reflect and contemplate on the artworks. The space is left simple to let the art speak for themselves. A nook is provided for rest and conversation.
ART STUDIO
The art studio is the main space for expression and release. Its an open space with curvilinear walls to rid the feeling of being confined. The space is adjacent to the counseling office for easy accessibility and to promote healthy forms of expression for potentially negative thoughts.
LEARNING LANDSCAPE
The Learning Landscape approaches flexible learning differently. It has varied seating to give the adolescents the opportunity to practice their autonomy and to encourage more informal encounters and conversations. The curvilinear shape is utilized in all faces of the design to stimulate cognitive thinking and inspire creativity.
LEARNING NOOKS
Learning nooks are essential in the overall design of the space as this provides the sense of being “alone together” and serves as a place of social rest and refuge for adolescents who get easily overwhelmed in social settings.
The library serves the bridge between the wellness and vocational facility. Its tall ceiling emphasizes the lightness the concept demands. The grid-like shelves is an effort to create a visual break from the entire curvilinear space, instead curves are expressed in the nooks as well as the placement of the furniture.

WISDOM. BALANCE. layered purity. Inspired from the Philippines’ sobriquet as the Pearl of the Orient, a pearl is well-known for its natural beauty. A pearl is resilient, adaptable, and headstrong. It forces itself to strive under adverse environments. It is made by an irritant but not defined by it. Just like there are several layers to every story and layers to acceptance and healing, the formation of a pearl goes through a painful process involving many layers. A beautiful thing must go through grit. It symbolizes change, oftentimes this comes with setbacks creating a moldable and impressionable journey. Making each pearl unique in its luster and shape.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This concept acknowledges communication within departments being vital for an entire organization to function seamlessly. A layout that allows for close supervision by creating easy access to key figures acknowledges hierarchy and eliminates the opportunity to promote office politics in the corporate culture. Translucency and honesty are achieved by creating semi-public spaces within each department. Centralized collaborative spaces initiate engagement creating a more integrated and dynamic workforce. The parti diagram is derived from the brand’s logo. The organization represents how translucency is important to fulfill its purpose as a non-profit that aims to help communities who rely on their support to get something as basic as water and is carried through by maintaining the fluidity of design elements.
RECEPTION ELEVATION Easily visible and accessible from elevator access, the reception divides the space into two hallways. The wall’s two different fabrics mimic earth and water with strip light figuratively separating them. This creates visual balance and serves as an acoustical and accent lighting solution. Reception desk and ceiling reflect different undulations of waves, strengthening the idea of the organization’s adaptability.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION This concept celebrates Hong Kong’s urban and island life, it combines subtropical elements with raw textures and pastel colors seen in the eclectic city. Comfort and a clean, streamlined, and functional home is top priority. Earthy tones are incorporated in order to add a tropical touch to the space and create a safe and calming place to come home to. PROJECT DESCRIPTION This concept is rooted from the season of spring, of reaping the fruits of labor and celebrating life. Canterbury Court is a community that is enriched by a collection of stories from residents who come from all walks of life. Primarily evident in the symmetric and centralized layout of the space as it engages the community in conversation and encourages the residents to remain eager to explore and wonder.

RECEPTION DESK Universal reception desk further extends the resident’s independence. It complies with ADA as it meets the 11” knee space and 34” work space height dimension.
The wood and concrete used in the reception desk bring a balance of warmth and a rustic feel. The logo is in different recycled brass finishes and reclaimed wood in an effort to pursue sustainability. The kitchenette meets ADA with the height, ADA compliant handles and a touchless faucet to support people who have arthritis or disabilities in turning knobs.

Seniors who remain inactive have higher risk to depression. Wayinding and comfort theory are key drivers when designing the space. The floor plan is primarily symmetric and centralized in layout as it engages the community in conversation and encourages the residents to explore and move along the common area. Sustainable efforts include the use of photosensors and maximizing the use of floor to ceiling windows for daylight.

Warm oranges and muted blues tie in with Canterbury Court’s brand as well as provide warmth and contrast needed for the user’s aging eyes. Different colored prints, finishes and feature walls are used to stimulate resident’s tactile receptors and enhance cognitive skills. Most materials and appliances were chosen for the products’ sustainable efforts. Selected varied seating and created varied arrangements in public spaces to accommodate for different social interactions.

Six Senses is an award-winning and very unique IHG hotel group, that offers exceptional guest experiences in remote and exquisite locations, such as coral-fringed bays, and inspiring city districts.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Halara is a greek that means “take it easy” the concept caters and transforms the lifestyle of guests through healthy and mindful living. The facility would provide a holistic approach to diet, exercise, relaxation, and health in an ecologically responsible setting. The semi-open layout establishes closeness within the community and integrates nature into the interior to create unity and balance. Neutrals and textured materials are used to create a timeless, elegant, and calming environment. Its application of curvilinear elements create a fluid form and mimic the pattern of personal growth - a unique and undulating experience.

LOBBY LOUNGE
The coconut palm tree is a universal symbol of the tropics. The lounge is inspired by sitting under palm trees swaying overlooking the sea or coastline at sunset. The form is directly inspired from the leaves curling downwards and extended down as an alcove, creating intimacy and engagement with other guests.

Very neutral, light and airy. The coffee nook is a space where you can wait lounge or work while waiting for your food. The layout is very relaxed, understated, and unprompted. And then place identity theory is applied here through the use of comfortable furniture, providing places to work, providing places to socialize, and through the selection of artworks. Attention Restoration Theory asserts that people can concentrate better after spending time in nature, or even looking at scenes of nature. It is applied in the living space as guest have generous access to natural light and have overlooking views of nature.

Offering a unique, and understated design to luxury hotel design. A neutral color palette throughout the guest rooms create a serene look and feel and bring focus to the beach. Various organic and rounded elements come into play in furniture and fixture selection to create a sense of flow.

The Art of Chinese Paper Folding. SMALL SCALE ARCHITECTURE PROJECT LOCATED IN CHEUNG SHA WAN BEACH LANTAU ISLAND, HONG KONG Cheung Sha Wan is a rural area in Lantau Island, New Territories. Located between Tonf Fuk and San Shek Wan. The beach is split into two sections, lower and upper beach. Spanning 3km in length, Cheung Sha beach is one of Hong Kong’s longest beaches. Like folding paper, this is an attempt to design lifeguard pavilion designed to combat coastal erosion, focus on stability, efficiency and aerodynamics.
