The aim of this thesis work is to develop an urban and architectural renewal project within the Muslim District of the city of Xi’an. The Muslim District, so named because of the high percentage of residents belonging to the Muslim Hui ethnic minority, is located within the historic walls and is considered one of the oldest parts of the city; one of the few portions of the urban texture survived to the urbanization process which still retains some of its historical features. Today this district is perhaps one the few parts of the city that still maintains a human scale, clearly distinguishing itself from the tall skyscrapers that have been built since the 1980s.
