Rotary Club of Shrewsbury EARLY CHRISTMAS PRESENT FOR HOPE HOUSE CHILDREN’S HOSPICE
The Rotary Club of Shrewsbury has donated hundreds of Christmas gifts to Hope House Children’s Hospices. We had been storing the items in readiness for a future Santa's Grotto but, because there is no such event planned this year, it was decided to offer the gifts to Hope House. Mrs Bobbie Fisher, Community Services Chairman, explained: "We have organised a Santa's Grotto in Shrewsbury for the past three years, but because there have been no requests to provide one this year, our management Council decided to donate the stored items, many of which are already giftwrapped, to Hope House. After last year's successful December Grottoes, when we raised more than £3000 for charity, we found we had over 400 surplus toys and books which had mostly been donated by local businesses. These have been stored in a member's spare bedroom during the year." Rotary Club of Shrewsbury President John Siviter said: "Our club members are delighted that these gifts have now been accepted by Hope House Children’s Hospice and will be put to good use there." Ms Lynsey Kilvert, (pictured below, right, on 30 October 2015) Shropshire and Powys Area Fundraiser for Hope House, who received the ten boxes at Hope House headquarters in Morda, near Oswestry, said: "We are extremely grateful to the Rotary Club of Shrewsbury and intend to use some of the items in our own Grottoes this year and also for fund raising."
