Montgomery Canal Forum 27 June 2016
MONTGOMERY WATERWAY RESTORATION TRUST YMDDIRIEDOLAETH ADFER CAMLAS MALDWYN You are cordially invited to the Montgomery Canal Forum at 2.30pm on Monday 27 June 2016. This will be an opportunity to learn more about the Montgomery Canal and plans for its future. The Forum will be held at The Elephant & Castle Hotel, Broad Street, Newtown SY16 2BQ. The meeting will look at the Montgomery Canal as part of the national network of waterways reaching into Wales, bringing benefits in regeneration and as an amenity for residents and visitors, and to hear about steps being taken for the next stages of restoration. The Forum will be opened by Richard Edwards, Mayor of Newtown. Principal speakers will be Lynne Berry OBE, Chair of Bwrdd GlandĹľr Cymru (the Canal & River Trust in Wales) and Cllr Avril York, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Planning, Powys County Council. There will be updates on plans for further restoration through the Heritage Lottery Fund and the plans of Welshpool Town Council to overcome the last obstructions to Welshpool. There will be an opportunity to discuss any issue concerning the future of the Montgomery Canal and what it can contribute to the area. The Forum will follow a brief Annual General Meeting of the Montgomery Waterway RestorationTrust (2.15pm). The Forum is a public meeting, open to anyone interested in the restoration and development of the Montgomery Canal for present and future generations. You will be welcome.
