Pearl’s favorite part of her day is hanging with her humans and her least favorite is being put back into her kennel. She had a loving home but sadly her owner passed away and she is quite confused. Pearl had an elderly companion in her previous home who she got on well with but she will be very discerning about any new dog. Kids, yes please. Dogs, no thank you. Cats, no thank you. Hi, my name is The Outlaw Josey Wales, but you can call me Josey. I’m a Red Merle Australian Shepherd. I came to live with Scott and Sandy in May of 2009. In September of that year we found my best buddy, Ojo. Together we loved to go on walks, camping trips and rolling in the snow. I also love sleeping on the couch, couches are made for dogs, right? Every year we would go Christmas tree hunting, we always found the best one. The one thing I really don’t like is water, so don’t take me to the lake.

PEARL

Gunnison County, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) have temporarily closed several roads to all motor vehicles to protect Gunnison Sage-Grouse during their mating season and to prevent road damage during wet spring conditions.

These roads are closed by March 15 and will reopen on May 15, 2024. Roads may be closed earlier than March 15 if they are excessively muddy. The cooperation of the public is required to successfully implement these road closures, which help support conservation efforts for Gunnison Sage-Grouse.

The U.S. Forest Service closures in the Flat Top Mountain area north of Gunnison extends through June 15 to protect nesting Gunnison Sage-Grouse. These include Henkel Road and Smokey Bear access roads. BLM roads across the basin are subject to the motorized closures except for Hartman Rocks north of the Powerline Road. Roads and trails in the north end of Hartman Rocks are subject to closure based on winter

and mud conditions but those will open when roads and trails dry out. Signal Peak roads and trails on BLM lands remain closed to motorized use from January 1 to May 15 to protect wintering wildlife. PLANT SALE: The Gunnison Valley Producers’ Guild will host their annual vegetable and herb plant sales on April 27 and May 25 at 513 S. Since gnus travel nearly every day, baby gnus must get up and walk right away. The babies, called calves, start walking within minutes after they are born.

Gnus face many dangers as they travel.

In the grassy plains, they are hunted by predators like lions, cheetahs and hyenas.

Along their migration loop, they cross large rivers lled with crocodiles.
