In Memoriam: Tony Murphy

The Munster Football Association were saddened at the recent passing of Council member, Tony Murphy. Tony had a long and distinguished career in football, as Player, Manager and Administrator. Tony enjoyed great success as a player with Tramore Athletic, been part of first FAI Youth Cup winning team in season 1957/58. Tony was a founding member of Western Rovers football club. Tony was also manager of first Cork Schoolboy League Kennedy Cup winning team in 1977.

He served on Cork Schoolboy League committee before joining the Management Committee of the Munster Senior League in 1995, serving as Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. Tony was League president upon his recent untimely passing. In 2018 Tony was recognized with a ‘Services to Football’ award by the League for outstanding contribution to Football.

At provincial, Tony joined the MFA in 2002 and also represented the council on the FAI Domestic committee for many years.
