Acoustical Collection

Panels by Instyle Ecoustic® felt faced Panels, available in a large range of colors, are designed to reduce and control reverberated noise in building interiors by application to walls or ceilings. These panels feature superior sound absorption, design aesthetic, easy trim + installation, and environmental responsibility. Ecoustic® Panels are 3'11.5" x 8'11 and can be cut to any shape or size accommodating your designs.

The Panels are used in office, government, education, public building, hospitality, retail, and residential interiors. Ecoustic® Panels are available in four thicknesses: 0.31", 0.53", 0.98", and 1.97". All Panels are comprised of a polyester core with a thermally bonded polyester felt face in 40 colorways. The panels are tackable, moisture resistant, and fire rated. Aluminum trim kits are available for each thickness.

Printed Panel Collection by Instyle The Ecoustic® Printed Panel Collection features stylish prints ranging from geometric shapes, architectural lines, organic textures, and free-flowing natural forms, designed by Michael Young, Tom Skeehan, and the Instyle Design Studio. Produced using traditional silk-screen techniques, Ecoustic® Printed Panels are available in a variety of thicknesses and beautiful color combinations. The collection patterns have been designed to elevate interiors while reducing and controlling reverberated noise in applications such as open plan workspaces, bars, restaurants, theaters, convention centers, and public spaces.

Solid Core by Instyle Ecoustic® Solid Core is a collection of acoustic panels with a solid color profile. The Cradle to Cradle Bronze Certified® Solid Core panels are used primarily as the base for many precision cut custom products by our design team, Unika Vaev Studio. Solid Core Panels are ideal for applications with exposed edges such as workstations, baffles, and partitions. Ecoustic® Solid Color Core is available in two sound absorbing thicknesses, 0.47", and 0.94".

Timber Blade Panels by Instyle The Ecoustic® Timber Blade Collection of acoustic modular wall and ceiling panels is produced using PEFC-certified solid wood sourced from sustainably managed forests. Available in four beautiful blade profiles, the panels can be installed in horizontal or vertical orientation on walls and ceilings. The system features a black acoustic scrim backing to enhance sound-absorption. Timber Blade Panels are designed for modularity and are pre-finished allowing for simple, efficient installation, and ease of ongoing maintenance. The design results in a linear wood finish with minimal on-site labor for installation. Additionally, when mounted with an air gap, or using Ecoustic® Panel sound-absorbing cores as a base, the panels become ideal for architectural installations where reverberation control is critical to the comfort and amenity of the room.

Timbre is produced with Cradle to Cradle Bronze Certified® panels and HP water-based latex digital printing ink, reducing its environmental footprint. Pinnacle by UV Studios The Pinnacle Modular Acoustic System combines texture, color, graphics, and optional LED lighting to enhance how we experience the interior environment. The inspiration for the wall cladding system is rooted in an angular, double-sided structure that changes our perception as we move through space. Pinnacle is offered exclusively as a digitally printed product utilizing a vast curated selection of Wilsonart® Patterns to further expand the design possibilities. You may also provide your own custom color, pattern, photograph, or logo graphics — to achieve exactly the look you’re after. Pinnacle is Cradle to Cradle Bronze Certified® and available for wall and ceiling applications, and achieves an NRC rating of 0.95. Unika Vaev collaborated with Gensler, serving as product design consultant for Pinnacle.

Acoustic Panel Prints by Unika Vaev Design Studio Bring in a piece of art, a logo or a message, to create a better soundscape for any space with Unika Vaev Design Studio’s digital print program. The program employs state of the art, high-resolution digital printing directly upon our 0.47" thick Solid Color Core acoustic panels.

Select any high-resolution photography or create your own graphics or signage to achieve an impactful sound-absorbing design. If you choose to go for an image art piece, check out Unika Vaev’s curated images on our website, or provide your own. The maximum print size on one panel is 48" x 108", and larger expanses can be achieved through Unika Vaev’s Custom Design Studio.

Gravura by UV Studios The Gravura Panel Collection has been designed to reduce the reverberant time within a space, while providing a subtle but beautiful background that blends with all interiors. Gravura is produced using 0.47" thick 100% PET Solid Core, available in 11 solid color options, and many more Wilsonart® patterns. Gravura is available in two interchangeable patterns, Deconstruct and Infinity. The Gravura panels are 48" x 96" in size and are suitable to adhere to several different substrates.

Scala Wall Panels by Abstracta Designed by Anya Sebton, the Scala sound-absorbing panel and screen collection embraces the time-honored principle of ‘Form Follows Function’. Finding inspiration in Icelandic construction methods, Scala provides a softer soundscape, while also promoting the idea of ‘separate but together’. Scala Wall Panels are available in either portrait or landscape orientation and hung on concealed brackets mounted to the wall. Scala Wall is available in two different sized profiles, 63" x 47.5" or 90.5" x 47.5", custom sizes also available.

Scala XL is developed to improve the soundscape in large and noisy spaces such as assembly halls, auditoriums, lobbies, and shopping malls. Scala XL’s interplay of shape and material has a powerful sound-absorbing effect. The increase of size not only amplifies its acoustic capacity, but also affects its aesthetic qualities. Scala XL has a bold, sculptural appearance and the design was inspired by arched roofs and columns.

Each unit of VisualAcoustiq® is custom produced to your specifications and shipped in a prefabricated kit for ease of installation. The images can be changed as frequently as needed with minimal effort and cost as they simply clip right on to the acoustic Solid Core. VisualAcoustiq® delivers large format, high-resolution, and durable imagery with significant acoustic properties, achieved with our 0.98" Ecoustic® Panel beneath the 100% polyester printed canvas. VisualAcoustiq® can accommodate a maximum dimension of 10' x 75'.

Bond by Instyle The design of Bond is inspired by alterations in atoms and molecules.

By changing the color and orientation of these acoustic wall tiles, subtle or commanding patterns that play with light and shadow can be created. Finished in a face of 100% polyester felt fiber and containing up to 23% recycled PET, the Ecoustic® Bond Tiles install in a snap with a simple clip system that is easily prepositioned on a wall or ceiling by use of an accompanying template. The tiles are shipped with an infill which may be used to achieve a higher NRC rating.

Crescent by Instyle Crescent, designed by Adam Goodrum & Patryk Koca, is a pair of complementing modular acoustic wall tiles that provide designers with the opportunity to form custom installations. The Valley and Plateau tiles produce bold landscapes from two flat planes, these take on a third dimension when using bold illumination. Sophisticated geometry is at the heart of these tiles, introducing a new scale into the range and encouraging designers to make better use of the available wall space, generating endless landscapes. A gradient or splash of color can be used to make a brilliant feature wall. Crescent is finished in a face of 100% polyester felt fiber, containing up to 23% recycled PET. Crescent tiles install in a snap with a simple clip system that is easily pre-positioned on a wall or ceiling by use of an accompanying template. The tiles are shipped with an infill which may be included to achieve a higher NRC rating.

Domino by Instyle The rectangular shape of the Ecoustic® Domino Tile, combined with the multi-depth diagonal pattern, and 40 color options allow for endless custom design possibilities for acoustic wall and ceiling tiles.

Sculpt® Collection by Instyle Ecoustic® Sculpt® is an innovative, patented, and award-winning drop-in ceiling tile system. Sculpt® is available in a range of striking designs, from understated simplicity, to dramatic sculptural shapes, for new and existing spaces. Sculpt® tiles may be assembled in varying orientations to create large-scale ceiling designs. Moon by Abstracta Moon, a globe-shaped acoustic lamp designed by Thomas Bernstrand provides high quality directed lighting with exceptional sound absorption. Its shape and generous scale allow it to absorb both high and low-frequency ambient noise effectively. In designing Moon, Bernstrand left nothing to chance. Following two years of development work, he worked closely with Abstracta’s product developers to arrive at a lamp whose shape not only produces really good lighting but maximizes acoustic impact. The lamp’s housing consists of two acoustic felt blankets, each with its particular properties. And thanks to clever construction, even the air within the lamp serves as a sound-absorbing material. This results in high acoustic performance, very low material consumption – and a very lightweight sound-absorbing lamp.

The screens, which function both as a sound absorbing screen and writing boards, are mounted on wheels for easy portability.

Acoustical Collection Absorption: The conversion of sound energy to heat energy. It varies with the frequency and angle of incidence of the sound that strikes acoustic material. A “soft room” is a space with highly absorbent surfaces whereas a “hard room” has surfaces of low absorbent value and are therefore highly reflective and reverberant.

Air-borne sound: Sound traveling through air rather than through structure.

Air Gap: For effective absorption of sound energy, the sound wave should pass through the absorbent material during its maximum velocity (quarter wavelength). The speed of sound is zero when it meets a rigid barrier such as the backing wall of a sound absorbing material. Increasing the thickness of the sound absorber or providing an air gap between the absorber and wall will improve absorption.

Attenuation: Also known as blocking or dampening, attenuation involves dividing a soundscape into discrete acoustic zones using different types of acoustical barriers that restrict sound from traveling without obstruction.

Broadband sound: A spectrum of sound consisting of a large number of frequencies, none of which is dominant.

Critical distance: The distance from a sound source at which the energy of direct sound and reverberant sound are equal.

Decibel (dB): The measurement term used to define sound intensity. A 10 times increase in sound intensity is defined as a Bel (named after Alexander Graham Bell); 4 Bels represent a 10,000 times increase in sound intensity. A decibel is 1⁄10th a Bel; 40 dB equal 4 Bels. A 1dB change in sound intensity is just noticeable; most humans can distinguish a 3dB change and consider a 10dB change as twice or half loud.

Diffraction: The change in direction of sound resulting from a discontinuity of a boundary (say, an open door).

Diffusion: A means to distribute sound energy in equally directions.

Echo: A return of sound that is perceived as a discrete sound.

Flanking transmission: The transmission of sound by an unintended path.

Frequency: The number of back and forth vibrations of air molecules (cycles) that occur in a second; expressed as Hertz (Hz). Sometimes known as pitch.

Hearing: The ability of the human ear to translate changes from ambient atmospheric pressure caused by sound energy into a signal recognizable by the brain. Sensitivity to sound depends upon its frequency and energy.

The audible range of frequency for humans is 20Hz to 20,000Hz, provided that at least 0 dB of sound intensity (threshold of hearing) is present.

Hertz (Hz): a unit of frequency of one cycle per second.

In phase: Sound waves that reach their peak compressions (and rarefactions) at the same time.

Insulation: The ability of material to prevent sound from reaching a location either by reflection back to the sound source or by acoustic resistance.

Inverse-square law: Sound intensity (sound energy per unit of area) varies inversely with the square of the distance from its source. Sound intensity decreases 6 dB for each doubling of the distance from its source.

Acoustic Terms & Definitions

Noise: Unwanted sound having no utility which may be airborne or structure-borne. Like a pollutant, noise needs to be limited and controlled to diminish its negative physiological, psychological, behavioral, and cognitive affects.

Conflict Minerals: The Conflict Minerals Regulation aims to help stem the trade in four minerals – tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold – which sometimes finance armed conflict or are mined using forced labor.

Noise reduction coefficient (NRC): The arithmetical average, expressed as a decimal to the nearest .05, of the sound absorption coefficients at 250Hz, 500Hz, 1000Hz, & 2000Hz.

Cradle to Cradle Bronze Certified®: All products under the bronze level certification must meet five requirements. Material Health, Material Reutilization, Renewable Energy & Carbon Management, Water Stewardship, and Social Fairness

Octave: A doubling or halving of frequency. 20Hz-40Hz is considered the bottom octave in a series of even-order harmonics that extend without limit beyond the audible range.

Reflection: Sound and light are reflected off smooth surfaces in a similar manner – the angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection.

Refraction: The bending of sound waves traveling through media that conduct sound at varying speed.

Resonant frequency: Any object will vibrate at a particular sound frequency, its natural resonant frequency, when disturbed by physical force or by sound having frequency equal to its resonant frequency.

Reverberation: The lingering of sound in an enclosed space after the original sound source has stopped. A room with much reverb is said to be “live”; one without reverb is said to be “dead”. Reverberation time (RT60): The time, in seconds, that reverberant sound energy in a space diminishes by 60dB. Sabin: The measurement unit, in inch-pounds, of sound absorption. One square foot of acoustic material with a sound absorption coefficient of 1 has a Sabin value of 1.

Sabine, Wallace C.: The father of modern acoustics and the developer of the Sabine reverberation equation; RT60 = .049 sec./ft. x Volume/Absorption Surface.

Sound: A vibrational disturbance comprised of alternating compressions and rarefactions of air molecules. The compressions push air together and thereby cause higher than normal atmospheric pressure, whereas rarefactions spread air molecules further apart thereby causing lower than normal atmospheric pressure. Total sound energy is the potential energy from ambient air pressure and the kinetic energy of moving air molecules.

Sound absorption coefficient (“alpha”): The amount, expressed as a decimal value between 0 and 1 to the nearest .05, of sound energy that is absorbed, or otherwise not reflected, by an acoustic material at a specified frequency.

Sound masking: The process by which the audibility of one sound is diminished by the introduction of another sound. White noise uses equal sound energy at all frequencies and thereby favors higher frequency spectra. Pink noise balances sound energy over a series of octaves and sounds less harsh.

Sound transmission class (STC): A rating system that provides an estimate of the insulation ability of a partition.

Structure-borne noise: The generation of unwanted radiated sound caused by vibrational forces in solid materials.

Wavelength: The distance a sound wave travels from compression to the next compression. The wavelength (or period) of sound at any frequency can be computed by dividing the speed of sound (1087 ft./sec.) by its frequency. At 20Hz, the wavelength of sound is 56 feet long. These long sound waves give low frequency sound (bass) its penetrating ability.

Declare: Declare labels disclose all intentionally-added ingredients and residuals at or above 100ppm (0.01%) present in the final product by weight. Each ingredient must be reported with a chemical name, CAS number, and percentage or percentage range.

Rapidly Renewable Content: Products that are produced from plant resources that are harvested within a ten-year cycle or shorter, including, but not limited to, bamboo, eucalyptus, wheat straw, sunflower hulls, cork oak, wheatboard, linoleum, and sorghum.

Recycled Content: Recycled content means the total percentage of recovered material in a product, including pre consumer and post consumer materials.

Red List Compliant: Products that do not contain chemicals that have been designated as harmful to living creatures, including humans, or the environment.

Third Party Certified: Third-party certification means that an independent Environmental Product Declaration (EPD): EPD provides information about organization has reviewed the manufacturing process of a product and a product’s impact upon the environment, such as global warming has independently determined that the final product complies with specific potential, smog creation, ozone depletion and water pollution. standards for safety, quality or performance.
