GREENS & GROUNDS

Hello to all! We hope you have been able to get on the golf course with the few nice days we have had last week. I know we are all tired of the rain and chilly temperatures of winter, and hopefully, warmer weather will be here soon.

The golf course has held up well though winter. The greens are firm and quick and the newly sodded areas are looking good also. I have not seen any indications that we will have winter injury to our Bermuda grass. We still have March to go, but as long as the night temperatures don't get into the teens we should be ok.

There are two very important issues to talk about.

1. The ball marks on the greens are simply not getting repaired. It's hard to believe that with new greens they are not treated any better. It takes only a few seconds to make a proper repair.

2. We are trying to keep the inside slopes of the bunker sand smooth. This is called the Aussie method. It allows the ball to roll to the bottom of the bunker for a easier shot out.

For this to work, players need to enter and exit the bunker from the low side. Stepping on the high side leaves very deep foot prints which can lead the ball to roll into. These two items are easy to follow and will help greatly in helping us to maintain this part of the golf course.

The drainage on the 17th hole will be addressed this summer. We are working on a plan that will help to move the water off the surface. This will be done with drain pipes, aerifying, and topdressing.

Please be patient as it needs to dry up before any work can be started.
