FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER
Charlie Nolette, CCM cnolette@alamancecc.net
Dear ACC Family, The last couple months have been busy with changes at the club, seasons changing, golf course construction wrapping up, and COVID still hanging around. I have fielded several questions recently that I thought warranted a bit of a public summary, so here’s a little FAQ review. When will the golf course open? The professional staff will not even meet to discuss course conditions until the first week of November. At that point, based on what is seen on the greens and other disturbed areas on the course, a decision will start to be formed. Things are growing in nicely but it’s simply too early to tell. The new change in service charge, will it affect our staff and should we tip or will the tip line go away? No, this change will not affect our staff and their compensation. The tip line will remain on your chits and if you feel like tipping you may. It is neither mandatory or forbidden. Those tips DO go directly to the staff that you leave them for, we do not tip pool or hold any back as the club. Can guests pay for a meal with a credit card? The only way a non-member can pay for anything on their own is if they are hosting a banquet event or if we are hosting a charity golf tournament and a purchase is made at the pro shop where they would NOT receive a member discount. In dining outlets a non-member would need to be accompanied by a member and any charges would go on that host member’s account. There are certain situations where we allow MEMBERS to use a credit card if it is for business purposes and needs to be separate from their statement. This is done purely as a courtesy and is in no way intended to be used by guests Some bars are opening back up with chairs at the bar, when are we putting ours back? We aren’t sure yet. What has been made clear is that many members appreciate our efforts to keep things clean, distanced, and as safe as we can be. Compromising this by creating a place that has traditionally created a gathering place at the bar would likely have a negative affect on the way many members feel about dining out at the Club. What we are trying to do in the meantime is offer as many outside events as we can until it’s too cold. At that point we will likely use different areas of the club to serve you in varied levels of social distancing and allow you to choose which area you are most comfortable in (staying within NC guidelines obviously). We also need to continue to be diligent and protective of our staff and making sure that they are comfortable and not put into situations that are overly risky.
Can we walk on the course yet? This is still a no. Unfortunately. When we originally started the project on the golf course we said we would use any unspent contingency money on cart path repairs. We were fortunate and had some unspent contingency left and we are going to be starting the removal process of sections of cart path in order to get them patched. This will mean more machines on the cart path, areas of the cart path that are excavated a little bit, and then a paving crew patching the areas identified for repair. We estimate that by the middle of November the cart paths will be clear, safe, and ready to walk on. Someone got a survey, I haven’t seen one yet. Did I miss it? Great question! At the beginning of this year we started a new method of member surveys that we hope will provide more consistent and valuable feedback to the staff and team leaders. Each quarter we survey only 20% of the membership. This accomplishes a few things, first it means you won’t be bombarded with surveys especially when we have to launch one for a special project or as part of a planning process. The more important thing is that it moves the timing around so you aren’t always being surveyed the same time of year. This enables the Club to get feedback every 3 months, potentially get better feedback on seasonal things like the pool, golf, kids activities, etc. So October is a survey month (Oct, Jan, April, July), if you get an email from the Club about a survey please fill out the survey. It’s very important in helping us improve services offered, programs, and make changes to better serve you and make your Club the best it can be. These are also great ways for you to request contact from myself of someone else on the team if there is a particular item that you would like to address. I hope that was helpful. Please feel free to email me with any questions or catch me around the Club and ask in person. I look forward to seeing you all soon, stay safe and healthy!
