Dear A.C.C. Family, This is WAY overdue as we are already 3 weeks into 2021. I hope that so far this has been a good year for you and your family. The new year brings with it many new things here at the Club. To begin with we have a new board of Directors. I want to thank Pete Blaetz, Randy Cox, and Bill Gomory who have rotated off the Board. As your new Board gets settled in, they will be setting goals and objectives for the Club in 2021. With that also comes new opportunities to serve on a committee. Our committee terms run for 1 year and in most cases are roughly an hour or so each month. If you are interested in serving on a particular committee please reach out to a director and let them know.

Given that we are still under significant COVID restrictions the planning of inside or large events is on hold for the moment. Like you, we as a staff are eager to get back to the days where we can gather without limitation and fear of getting or making someone sick. We will continue to follow the Governor’s Executive Order along with any Federal rules that come into play with the new administration. Please know that we don’t make our policies with the intention of being difficult, but to be compliant with the laws and hopefully demonstrate our care and concern for you by following certain protocols.

Last year we made great progress on our strategic plan by completing the golf course project, created a young executive membership, and updating our bylaws. This year we hope to continue in the next phase of the plan which will most likely mean that we address the need for dedicated pickleball courts. There is already a plan selected that would create 4 new pickleball courts and a multisport court with basketball and soccer goals. This multigenerational project we plan on funding with initiation fees in the next few months. We hope that this project can be completed before the pool opening so that it can be enjoyed all summer!

Lastly I would like to take a minute and brag on our staff. This past week the Leadership Team selected Jeff Van Pelt as our Employee of the Year for 2020. Jeff did a great job this summer with our project and in so many other areas of the club on a regular basis. We also started something new for Leadership Team which is made up of the Department Heads around the club. Normally this group is not eligible for the Employee of the Quarter or Year award as we want it to be for our front line member facing team. However, this group of managers and leaders work very hard and are directly responsible for many of the successes the Club has had. So there is a new award, the Thomas D. Cooper Award, for managers who exhibit commitment, vision, and determination that were so important for the founding of ACC. Nomination by her peers for the inaugural award for 2020 has been presented to Jennifer Smith. You can see more about Jeff and Jennifer in this week’s update.

Thank you all for your support and I hope that in the next couple weeks we’ll begin moving toward more folks being vaccinated, less positive cases, and hopefully some fun events with friends and neighbors.

CONGRATULATIONS SKYLER HOLT Please join me in thanking Skyler Holt for his service to Alamance Country Club and congratulating him on his new adventure with National on Demand in the Real Estate Division. A Burlington native, Skyler has been with Alamance Country Club in the Golf Operations for almost 3 ½ years, serving as an Assistant Golf Professional for most of that time. This is a new and unique opportunity for Skyler and we look forward to his continued growth and success on this new path.

Skyler's last scheduled day at ACC is Friday, January 22nd. Stop by and wish him well!

REMINDERS • Maximum rounds of 64 players Tuesday through Friday • Maximum rounds of 80 players Saturday, Sunday, and designated holidays • Accompanied Guests will be allowed (All Guests must be accompanied during his/her round by a member with full golf privileges) • Tee Times will begin at 9:00am off the 1st Tee (unless otherwise determined); unless we have a frost delay, tee times will automatically move to a Double Tee Start beginning at 11:00am, and if necessary to 12:00pm. Unfortunately, Shotgun Starts are not available at this time.

Frost Delays • The Golf Staff will notify scheduled groups if there is a frost delay, but members should anticipate a delay any time temperatures are scheduled to reach or fall below 32 degrees.

• As a reminder, during frost delays all practice greens are closed until the course opens.

• If we cannot open at 12:00pm, we will remain closed for the day.

Again, please continue to carefully monitor play and the effects on the course as we transition through winter and into spring. We will update the membership as changes are made.

EMPLOYEE NEWS EMPLOYEE OF THE QUARTER (September ­ December 2020) We would like to congratulate our Assistant Fitness Director, Kenny Lutz, on being named the Employee of the Quarter. Anyone that knows Kenny, knows that they will always be greeted with a warm smile. On a day­to­day basis, Kenny epitomizes what it means to be a hard working employee. His punctuality, initiative, willingness to take on extra duties, and overall job knowledge are what make Kenny such a valuable asses to the fitness team.

He regularly goes above and beyond the call of duty in making sure that members can work out at the time that is most convenient for them, beyond the call of duty in making sure that members can work out at the time that is most convenient for them, assuring that their workouts are safe and purposeful in nature, and has been a huge help in keeping the fitness center a safe and clean place for members to exercise during the COVID­19 pandemic.

When you see Kenny, please give him a big air hi­five and congratulate them on this accomplishment. Thank you Kenny for all your hard work!

EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR I would like to congratulate Jeff Van Pelt on becoming the 2020 Employee of the Year. Jeff has been with Alamance Country Club for 7 years., and his contributions have been well received in maintaining the golf course. In 2020 he completed the work required for becoming a Certified Golf Course Superintendent. He passed the exam on the first try and now joins me as a CGCS. As my tenure with ACC ends in a few years Jeff will be able to take the rains and bring the course to a new level.

Peter Horn, CGCS All of the staff at ACC would like to echo Peter’s congratulations to Jeff Van Pelt for being selected as the Employee of the Year. This was a very tough year to only pick one person that represented all the values and traits that we think are important and held by our team here. Jeff accomplished a huge professional milestone by earn­ ing his Certified Golf Course Superintendent designation. This is the hallmark certification in the world of Golf Course Maintenance Professionals. Jeff is one of the few individuals that passed his exam and portfolio project on the first try. In addition to this Jeff was integral in moving our golf course project forward this summer. Jeff worked many long hours, dealt with surprises and unexpected events, asked hard questions of our construction and design professionals to ensure that we were getting the right things for our course, and did so with a smile. There were often times that Jeff and the team were asked to help out with something and never have they said no or stalled to jump in and help out. We hope that this work ethic and commitment will be contagious and continue to make the Employee of the Year Award a difficult choice year after year.

EMPLOYEE NEWS THOMAS D. COOPER AWARD The Thomas D. Cooper award is given to a member of the Alamance Country Club’s Management Team by nomination of their peers for performance that exemplifies the vision, commitment, and determination that were exhibited by Mr. Cooper as he spearheaded the formation and development of Alamance Country Club.

2020 was without a doubt one of the more challenging years in recent Club history. Throughout the pandemic with activities being limited, government orders limiting operations, and a golf course under construction, the Club managed to move forward successfully. With new daily habits and work schedules, it was through the hard work and creativity of Jennifer Smith that ACC was able to connect with members. More importantly, it was Jennifer moving around the Club and working with several departments to tell the story that we were open and having fun that really counted. Jennifer took photos of events, shot videos of activities, drove our social media presence, and increased her reach and engagement with our membership. It was through her efforts that we were able to navigate a challenging year with our membership in a great place to come out of a tough year.

It is for her hard work, starting new ways to communicate, and working with almost every Club department throughout the year, that Jennifer Smith is the recipient of the inaugural Thomas D. Cooper Award.
