From The General Manager Dear ACC Family,

Charlie Nolette, CCM cnolette@alamancecc.net

SUMMER SAFETY REMINDERS

As summer is kicking off I wanted to do the customary Summer Safety Briefing. Nobody is in trouble…but we want to keep it that way and keep the summer accident free. This summer poses some unique challenges that I want to be sure you are aware of. • Work on the golf course and driving range has begun. At this point we are able to allow members to walk the cart paths in the morning. However, this will likely change in the next couple weeks. Please take advantage of the walking ability now as we will be closing the walking access as activity increases.

• Please refrain from walking across, along, or on the course. The team that is working needs to be able to move freely and quickly for this project to stay on track. By staying off the course this will also prevent any potential trips, falls, or contact with fertilizers and pesticides that are used in the growing in of our greens. We will be sharing weekly updates on the progress so you can see what’s happening in a safe way.

• Please remember that North Fairway and Pineway Drive are public roads. Children need to exercise caution and good safety when biking/walking/skateboarding on or near these roads. Please remind children that we will have an increase in tractor traffic this summer with the golf course work. These vehicles, while usually slower than cars, often have trailers or loads of material and they do not stop as quickly as a car does.

• Lifeguards Rule - If a lifeguard blows a whistle or gives a verbal instruction, ALL members and guests are expected to follow those instructions. If you feel that a guard has been too rigid in their interpretation of a rule please feel free to contact me. There will be no modification of the rules on the pool deck. The rules are designed to ensure safety for all and should they require modification there is a process for that.

• Lifeguards are also not responsible for monitoring social distancing recommendations. They are here to monitor swimmers in the pool. If you or your family have concerns about social distancing those should be addressed before coming to the pool.

• Our kitchens are very active places here at the club. Nobody should be entering any kitchen area unless accompanied by a staff member with prior approval. They are not appropriate shortcuts, hangouts, or areas of normal access. There are simply too many opportunities for someone to get hurt. If someone desires a tour of our facilities I would be more than happy to organize one so you can see behind the scenes. Likewise we have culinary camps this summer that will allow for kids to see what goes on in a commercial kitchen.

At this point I think we have worked through all the glitches in our pool reservation system, but if we missed one please let me know. Our capacity seems to be working well with the one time frame reservation list so we will continue in that fashion for the foreseeable future. Remember that at current time guests are allowed during the weekdays, but not on the weekends. Thank you all and I look forward to seeing you at Tennis, working out behind the Fitness Center, in the dining room, or on the pool deck chilling out! Have a great summer!

Charlie

We are still navigating our way through this unprecedented pandemic, and I know each day we are faced with new challenges. Thank you to each of you for your continued support of club staff and for sending member referrals to me. I am really excited that we are seeing new members take advantage of our Young Executive category. We challenge you all to reach out to friends, family, co-workers and neighbors and share with them what ACC means to you. It is important for us to continue to keep our club vibrant and active. For those of you currently 44 years of age, or younger, remember that if you bring in a new member you may also move to the Young Executive category and benefit from those savings. Send those referrals my way so that you can take advantage of the savings. We are still offering our Passport book for new members and their sponsor. Give me a call, or shoot me an email if you have any prospective members you would like for me to send information to, or chat with them about our membership offerings.

Greens & Grounds Golf Renovation Update

Our 2020 renovation is under way. As I’m writing this we are on day 10. Only one day so far has been lost to rain. Many of you who have ridden by the club probably haven’t seen much action going on. The work was started on holes 13 and is currently making its way to the clubhouse. Right now, TDI, our construction company, is stripping the sod off of the greens and surrounds at a 2” depth. Also, they have crews in the bunkers removing all of the sand. They should have the back 9 complete by Thursday, June 18 Check out Jeff’s Blog and then move over to the front 9. for more detailed updates: As for the greens and grounds crew, we hired a company to come https://alamanceccgg.wordpress.com/ in and locate our bunker flushouts. This is typically at the highest peak of the bunker drainage. Once all flushouts were located, a high pressure hose and nozzle were snaked through the mainline of the bunker drainage. If there were any blockages in the pipe, they were located. Our team has been working on fixing these blockages over the last week. You may also have seen some aerification taking place on our tee boxes. We will be working on aerating the entire golf course and de-thatching most of our existing short cut areas. We will then take the old sand from the bunkers and put a healthy topdressing on the tees and fairways and any softer areas in the roughs. We have incurred many questions on when we will patch up the bare areas on the course. We will address many of these in the month ahead. For your safety, please stay off the golf course during this construction period. We will be adding many signs to entry areas throughout the course warning of the construction. Thank you,

Jeff Van Pelt, CGCS

Golf Update

We hope everyone is enjoying the summer temps and hopefully spending some time at the pool! Construction has certainly begun on the course and things are really moving along. Greenside bunkers on the Back 9 are being dug out while the top layer of those greens is being removed. Peter, Jeff, and the crew have also begun several projects in preparation of and /or in assistance to the golf construction - so a lot going on across a large expanse of the course. A few reminders regarding safety on the course to ensure work can be completed in a safe and timely manner:

• Currently, members walking along the cart path is permitted. This could change in the coming days or weeks as construction spreads across more of the course. As the crew moves across the course, vehicles and equipment will be moving in all directions and with the assumption that no one is in the way.

• Several material deposit areas have been created and some of these ‘pits’ can be very deep and sometimes not immediately visible. Please stay on the path when walking.

• No vehicles can be on the course other than those of the crew and club. We have received some notice that private carts (at times driven by children) have been spotted on the course. This just is not safe and is a major liability for the Club, the membership, and the construction crew. Please abstain from using the course as a short cut or for joy riding, and please make sure your children do the same. This should include bicycles and skateboards as well. We know the temptation is great, but it can only lead to delay, cost, and/or, more importantly, personal harm. • Various types of material will be ‘staged’ or piled for future use. These piles must be avoided, as much of this material will be re-used in some capacity for the course. The slightest Containment - trash, material from shoe tread, etc., could be detrimental. Please do not climb or disturb these areas. This extends to the bunkers and greens - which may appear to be just packed sand; however they are being prepped for important work and any unplanned disruption could cause delay or cost! If you have any question about the project activities, please reach out to the Golf Shop Staff - 336-584-1326 or golfshop@alamancecc.net
