Pool and Casual dining Project

Pool and Casual Dining Project

About the Process

This project really started in 2019 when we began the work of our current strategic plan. Enhancing our pool and dining offerings were two of our membership’s highest priorities to address. The planning and groundwork for this project began in the spring of 2021 and has flowed through multiple sub-committees and committees to get to this point. A competitive bidding process was used to select our general contractor (Bobbitt Construction) for this design-build project. The conceptual architectural work and club consulting were done by Chapman Coyle Chapman.

About the Project

The project has something for everyone! Pool enhancements for users of all ages, dining options for families both young and old, diners wanting something casual, and options that utilize our great views of the golf course from our Event Lawn. Construction is scheduled to begin in September of 2024 and be completed in May of 2025. The cost per member is $3,600, $1,800 if you ’ re 80+, paid in even installments over 18 months. Here is the breakdown of the project budget.

Key Aspects

Pool Enhancements - These will include a new water slide, beach entry at the main pool, splash features at the beach entry, and a new deck surface (paver overlay). In addition, we anticipate adding permanent shade structures covering parts of the pool as well as key areas of the deck.

New Adult Pool - A designated adult-only area with recessed seating around the pool edge, a tanning shelf for lounge chairs, and plenty of lounge and seating areas.

Teens and Tweens Activity Room - A casual place for kids to call theirs. This won’t have dedicated programming like the Kids Club for elementary-age children. Think foosball, TV, a video game system, Wi-Fi, and phone or laptop charging stations.

Side elevation from Event Lawn

Bar overlooking #18 - This would be an adult space in the seating plan with a four-sided bar that enables great views regardless of where someone stands. This will likely have a different menu than what’s at the 1946 Grill. We are aiming to create a place where folks can hang out, watch a game, enjoy a meal, and be a social hub while at the club.

Year-Round Casual Dining - While the exact concept has not been finalized yet, we are imagining something similar to a sports bar/flatbread pizza menu. The service style here will most likely be order at the counter and Club staff brings your food to you. Our goal is to provide a menu and service to an audience that wants to dine in, casual or athletic attire, a fun vibrant atmosphere, and a less formal meal time. We envision seeing lots of families, kids eating with their own social groups, golfers after a round, and racquet sports players following a match or clinic.

Outdoor and patio dining - On both the pool and Event Lawn side we will have outdoor dining that is covered by either umbrellas (pool side) or a permanent roof (lawn side). We think this will be a great way to capitalize on our shoulder seasons and help to support some of our club events that take place outside.

Goals of the Project

Outside of the on-time and on-budget pieces, here are some of the targets for this new amenity

More modern pool facilities - This will add a more “resort” feel to our pool complex. It will also replace aspects of the pool that are fully depreciated. Having a beach entry with some splash features and a slide are designed to serve children. The beach entry also removes challenges for those who struggle with stairs or are in a wheelchair. The adult pool is an emerging trend in pool design and gives those members who want a resort environment a place to relax.

Menu Diversification - With only one restaurant currently, this will allow the 1946 Grill to focus on a polished casual menu and this new venue to focus on a casual or fast casual menu. While the exact menu theme has not been finalized, you can expect the price point to be lower than the 1946 Grill and the style of service to be less formal; With proximity to the pool we will not be using glass or china and the hours of operations are likely to be a little different.

are groups that are anticipated to be frequent users of the dining venue. In particular racquet sports users and golfers after activity, families with younger children, and teenagers. These groups are currently underserved by the 1946 Grill.

Improved Integration of the Event Lawn - This area while having great views has been difficult to serve because of its proximity to food service venues and lack of visibility from service points. With it being visible from the new bar location we expect to see more usage and improved service to this area.

Teens and Tweens space - While it is small, the “activity room ” is intended to be a place to entertain our middle and younger high school students. It is an important place for them to call theirs and feel comfortable being in. We see this being a social hub for kids and a way for them to use the club their way, which is often times different than how the adults like to use it.

Member Groups - Within our membership as a whole there
