STEPPING UP SUSTAINABILITY EFFORTS The Paris Agreement to reduce carbon emissions and fight climate change brought together 195 governments agreeing to ambitious targets over the coming decade. Leaders at WFES 2017 provided insights on the steps taken to mitigate the risks.
Discussion underway on effective business strategies for better renewable targets.
At the 10th edition of WFES, leaders and decision makers from the UAE and across the world came together to discuss government and business strategies in order to effectively implement the Paris Climate Agreement. Speaking at a panel discussion that included Masdar, IRENA, WWF and countries including India and Peru, the two key elements that all agreed upon was that innovation is key, and people are the most important assets. In the opening speech, Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO, Masdar, said that economics and
innovation have played a tremendous role in making renewable energy a reality, adding that this was demonstrated by DEWA, which has completed 80 per cent of the largest single-site solar park in the world – the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. He also announced that Masdar is developing the first floating wind farm, another example of how the industry is moving forward. Following Masdar’s lead, Felipe Calderón, chairman, Global Commission on the Economy & Climate, noted that even if all the conditions to
