F airytales do come true and its exciting for me to be part of a person’s journey to realize theirs. Making people feel beautiful is my passion. I love to assist them in creating their vision of the special day. They feel in love with their soulmate, its my job to create their love visually.
My day starts off normal like everyone else’s, I wake up early to venure out with my dog. I look for inspirations during our walks. A color here, a shape there, and a texture over there. I snap photos along the way. Along the way I drop off Bianca at the doggy day care, then head to the offce to upload my photos to my inspration board.
The work day for me is hetic, non-stop, and crazy. But, I love it. I would have it any other way. This is my fairytale where my dreams do come true. Signature couture designs that walk down the runway or the down the aisle is a beautiful thing.

The key to my collections is sensuality. I am convinced that there can be luxury in simplicity. My relationships with producers or photographers - these are relationships that took years. Age is something only in your head or a stereotype. Age means nothing when you are passionate about something. Sometimes the simplest things are the most profound.
I sometimes feel that a pattern is almost a fashion statement in itself. Men don’t want another man to look at their woman because they don’t know how to handle it. Fashion is always of the time in which you live. It is not something standing alone. But the grand problem, the most important problem, is to rejeuvenate women. To make women look young. Then their outlook changes. They feel more joyous. Age is something only in your head or a stereotype. Age means nothing when you are passionate about something. Fashion fosters cliches of beauty, but I want to tear them apart.
I didn’t consider myself a fashion designer at all at the time of punk. I was just using fashion as a way to express my resistance and to be rebellious. I came from the country, and by the time I got to London, I considered myself to be very stupid. It was my ambition to understand the world I live in. Luxury will be always around, no matter what happens in the world. We must never confuse elegance with snobbery. My learning process is by eye alone; it’s not at all scientific. For me, the summer will be pure gray - mother-of-pearl gray, very pale gray. To me, this is the big statement for summer. Then we have light blue, light turquoise, lots of pink.
Everything I do is a matter of heart, body and soul. All I did my first year at Vogue was Xerox. What you wear is how you present yourself to the world, especially today when human contacts go so fast. Fashion is instant language. Instead of buying six things, one thing that you really like.
Don’t keep buying just for the sake of it. I didn’t like the ‘80s at all; it was a vulgar moment of fashion.
I like things simple. It pains me physically to see a woman victimized, rendered pathetic, by fashion. We look our best in subdued colors, sophisticated cuts, and a general air of sleek understatement. Fashion fades, only style remains the same. Fashion to me has become very disposable; I wanted to get back to craft, to clothes that could last.

Money is the most corrosive aspect of life today because it means that all attention to detail is forgotten. My shows are about the complete woman who swallows it all. It’s a question of survival. I adore the challenge of creating truly modern clothes, where a woman’s personality and sense of self are revealed. I want people to see the dress, but focus on the woman. Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening. You can only go forward by making mistakes.
Online media is increasingly influential in fashion. Success isn’t about the end result, it’s about what you learn along the way. I never look at other people’s work. My mind has to be completely focused on my own illusions. An evening dress that reveals a woman’s ankles while walking is the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. It’s hard to balance everything. It’s always challenging. I have my permanent muses and my muses of the moment. Clothes mean nothing until someone lives in them. Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening. Grunge is a hippied romantic version of punk. The key to my collections is sensuality.
If you cut a painter’s hands off, he’d still feel the urge to pick up a brush. People said making clothes inside out was not proper. I disagreed, because clothes that are inside out are as beautiful as a cathedral. Delete the negative; accentuate the positive! I can design a collection in a day and I always do, cause I’ve always got a load of Italians on my back, moaning that it’s late. I always say: To be well dressed you must be well naked. Fashion is instant language. Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury. When I was young, I lived like an old woman, and when I got old, I had to live like a young person. I wanted to dress the woman who lives and works, not the woman in a painting.
I’m an accomplice to helping women get what they want. My job is to bring out in people what they wouldn’t dare do themselves. I love women’s fashion, but women don’t need me as much as men do. It’s the men who have nothing to wear. You’re only as good as your last collection, which is an enormous pressure. I don’t care about money. I really don’t care. I just want to do what I do.
I couldn’t love a woman who inspired me to be totally disinterested. Shapes and proportions are for your intellect. Brides today are increasingly sensitive to the tastes, feelings and finances of their attendants. I truly believe that philanthropy and commerce can work together. Go to a place where you’re not going to be stressed, because a honeymoon itself can be a stressful thing. I think in the darkest moments, we need a break. I love to design things that people can actually buy. I’m staggered by what a boot costs today. I like the body. I like to design everything to do with the body.
I have my favourite fashion decade, yes, yes, yes: ‘60s. It was a sort of little revolution; the clothes were amazing but not too exaggerated. I like the things around me to be beautiful and slightly dreamy, with a feeling of worldliness. I am not interested in the past, except as the road to the future. It is not easy to dress well. You can hide so much behind theatrics, and I don’t need to do that any more.
Women are more sure of themselves today. They don’t have to emulate the way men dress. Vanity is the healthiest thing in life. Luxury will be always around, no matter what happens in the world. I didn’t want to be a fashion designer, and for a good half of my career I didn’t like it. I always wanted to do other things.
Being one step ahead of a fashion trend is not so important to me. What matters is to always forge ahead. Fashions fade, style is eternal. You have to always work against what you did before, and even against your taste. Today, I’m very happy about myself, because I realized my dreams. I learned how to understand what people want. I do not have one theme for each season, I just try to make beautiful clothes all year round.
