Welcome To Destin Welcome to the Alabama Trucking Association’s 81st Annual Convention and Meeting. Planning for this weekend is a lengthy process, but I’ve enjoyed serving this great Association and its goal of making its annual meeting a topnotch event. I trust you will see the results from the combined efforts of the ATA Convention Committee, Board Members and staff – all of whom have invested a lot of time and effort to make this important gathering successful. Most importantly, I want to acknowledge the incredible support of our membership. I know we say this every year, but this year has topped all other meetings for sponsorship and attendance – and we expect more than 400 attendees and guests this weekend.
Tom McLeod, 2019 ATA Convention Chairman My Convention Committee really stepped up this year to ensure the financial success of this meeting is secure. We’re grateful to each sponsor’s contributions. A full list of these businesses is available at the centerspread of this booklet. As you look over the list, you’ll see familiar names and logos. Many, if not all, are regular supporters of this Association and its many endeavors. Each is a credit to our industry and a very important participant in Alabama’s strong economy. The next few days will be packed with informative meetings, exciting events, and entertainment offerings. On top of that, you are here to network with the best business leaders our industry has to offer. Our agenda focuses on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for trucking. Together, we will find solutions that will benefit each of us, no matter what niche or business sector we serve. The success of the entire industry is good for us all – and that success starts this week, here in Destin. Please know that your continued support of this Association is a large part of its success, and it is very much appreciated. If you have questions, concerns or suggestions about this meeting, please find me or an ATA staffer, and we will do everything we can to assist you. In the meantime, the following pages provide the information you need to make the most of your weekend. We’re glad you’re here. Thanks for your support of the Alabama Trucking Association. Tom McLeod 2019 ATA Convention Chairman Birmingham, Ala.

Friday Speaker APRIL 26, 8-11 A.M. – Emerald Ballroom
Tom Mcleod Opening the 2019 ATA Convention is Tom McLeod, President and CEO of McLeod Software, the company he founded in 1985. In this timely presentation, “Cybersecurity: Protecting Your Trucking Business”, Tom will give insights on how organizations can take appropriate measures to protect their vital information from online attack. We count on information connectivity every day in our professional and personal lives, and much of that information comes to us over connection to the Internet. Our businesses depend on this connectivity to operate, yet malicious software and cyberattacks have become rampant, affecting an alarming number of businesses, government operations, and entities of all types. The tools available to the criminals are remarkably easy to access and use. Learn the steps you need to take to avoid being the next victim of a malware attack. In recent years, cybercriminals have brought some the world’s top organizations to their knees with well-orchestrated attacks that placed millions of individuals at risk – and if can happen to them, it can happen to your business, too. Tom is a thought leader in the transportation industry, specifically on the use of current and upcoming information technology to support trucking and brokerage operations. His company has grown to more than 450 employees and is Birmingham’s largest software development company. Tom is active in the American Trucking Associations, the Truckload Carriers Association and the Alabama Trucking Association and has held leadership positions in the same. He graduated from W. A. Berry High School in 1972 and from Samford University (cum laude) in 1976. He is active at Valleydale Church and has been married to his wife, Annette, for 41 years.
Be sure to attend the ATA Comp Fund Reception Friday evening from 5-7 P.M. in the Emerald Ballroom. For more info, see page 11.

Chairman’s 13 Reception + Dinner Capping this year’s Convention is a reception and dinner honoring current ATA Chairman of the Board Fenn Church of Church Transportation and Logistics in Birmingham, Ala.
Fenn Church ATA Chairman
His agenda included initiatives to bolster ATA member services, increase existing membership involvement in Association events and special projects – especially among trucking firms; and to fortify and improve the industry’s public image for economic development and workforce recruitment, and to promote industry safety and professionalism.
Throughout his tenure, Chairman Church has remained engaged and involved – as much as any who’ve served before him. He’s proven time and again that when he pledged to lead the Alabama Trucking Association, he was promising to protect and promote Alabama’s trucking industry at all costs, showing that he isn’t afraid to work hard for what he believes. And he’s done that. Also, we will recognize and introduce this year’s Alabama Truck Driver of the Year, longtime FedEx Freight Truck Driver and Alabama Road Team Member Dan Thompson and his wife, Susan. Mr. Thompson was recently selected by the ATA’s Safety and Maintenance Management Council for his commitment to industry safety and professionalism in a career that has spanned nearly four decades and more than 3-million safe miles.
Dan Thompson
Another highlight of the evening is the announcement of the 2019 H. Chester Webb Award, which is this Association’s highest honor for a member. Last year’s recipient Greg Brown, President of B.R. Williams Trucking, will announce the winner. After our program concludes, we’ll be treated to the Black Jacket Symphony’s presentation of the Eagle’s classic album “Hotel California.” This event is made possible by the support and funding of our ACT 1 Convention Sponsors. The Black Jacket Symphony offers an amazing concert experience recreating classic albums in a live performance setting with first-class lighting and video production. Each show is performed by hand-picked musicians specifically selected for each album. With no detail overlooked, the musicians and crew Black Jacket Symphony carefully reproduce the album’s nuances. And after a brief intermission, the band returns to the stage to kick out a whole set of the Eagle’s greatest hits.
Dress is semi-formal (A dinner jacket or suit, cocktail dress for ladies). Thank You For Coming & Enjoy Your Convention
