CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR 2023 ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE FOUNDATION

Scholarship Recipients

Dixie Electric Cooperative hosted a scholarship luncheon for 15 high school seniors from our service area on Wednesday, April 12, 2023. During the luncheon, students were celebrated by faculty members from their schools, the Dixie board of trustees and management team and, of course, their proud parents. We are honored to present our 2023 Electric Cooperative Foundation scholarship award winners!

Aysha Mack

Aysha is not only a member of the National Honor Society, but both the National Technical Honor Society and the National English Honor Society. She is the vice president of Future Health Professionals and is a member of Mu Alpha Theta. Aysha is dual enrolled at Auburn University at Montgomery, and has been described as “conscientious, thoughtful, and takes great pride in herself.” Aysha plans to attend Tennessee State University to study nursing.

Delaney Hawthorne

Delaney was the team captain of varsity soccer and won multiple awards for her athleticism. She is part of the leadership team in both Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Girl Talk Ministries. Delaney is a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta, and she has received an AP Scholar Award. She has been described as a “leader, a hard worker, and a genuine pleasure to be around.” Delaney plans to pursue her nursing degree at Lipscomb University.

Azaria Hall

BULLOCK COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL

Azaria participates in varsity basketball and softball at Bullock County High School, where she is also a member of the choir and Future Teachers of America. Azaria is dual enrolled at both Wallace Community College and Trenholm State. She has been described as a “worthy individual and will make every honest endeavor to make her school and community very proud of her.” Azaria plans to attend Troy University to study biology.

Gray Brendle

TRINITY PRESBYTERIAN SCHOOL

Gray participates in varsity volleyball and show choir at Trinity Presbyterian School. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Tri M Music Honor Society. Gray also placed in the top 10 of Montgomery’s Distinguished Young Women, and she was voted school ambassador vice president. She has been described as “a young woman of impeccable character and outstanding work ethic.” Gray plans to attend Mississippi State University to study human development and family science.

Jack Jones

MACON EAST ACADEMY

Jack is the varsity baseball captain at Macon East Academy where he also participates in the SGA and Fellowship of Christian Students. He is also part of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. Jack is a representative in both HOBY Leadership and Boys State. He has been described as “very levelheaded, very driven, and determined at achieving the highest potential and standard in the goals that he is trying to reach.” Jack plans to attend Troy University to study exercise science/kinesiology.

Jenesis Foster

BOOKER T. WASHINGTON MAGNET

Jenesis participates in varsity tennis, International Club, and Interact Club at Booker T. Washington Magnet High School. She is also the secretary of the Fellowship of Christian Students and a member of both Future Business Leaders of America and the National Honor Society. Jenesis is a student intern at the Church of the Highlands, and she has been described as a “wise, compassionate, and intelligent young woman.” Jenesis plans to attend Auburn University in Montgomery to study communication disorders.

Owen Johnson

MONTGOMERY ACADEMY

Owen participates in varsity soccer and is the captain of varsity football at Montgomery Academy. He is in advanced placement coursework and assists at the after school program. Owen also assists with summer camp, was a participant in FUMC’s Costa Rica mission trip, and is a VBS leader. He has been described as a “self-motivated and independent young man who excels in all that he does.” Owen plans to attend the University of Alabama where he will major in veterinary medicine.

Jake Sharpe

TALLASEE HIGH SCHOOL

Jake is co-captain of Scholar's Bowl, and he is also the vice president of the National Honor Society and treasurer of FFA. Jake is a member of Mu Alpha Theta, a BSA Eagle Scout, and a Boys State representative. He has been described as “an exceptional young man who displays excellent leadership skills and easily balances his academics and extra-curricular activities.” Jake plans to attend Auburn University to study mechanical engineering.

Joshua Vaughn

PARK CROSSING HIGH SCHOOL

Joshua participates in soccer, band, and Air Force JROTC. He received his advanced manufacturing electrical entry-level technician certification from Trenholm State and completed his NCCER Core Credential at MPACT. Joshua is described as “a very respectful young man who has a good relationship with his classmates as well as instructors and leaders throughout the school.” He plans to attend Trenholm State Community College to study electrical instrumentation.

Xequan Hurt

BULLOCK COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL

Xequan participates in varsity track and field at Bullock County High School, where he is also an honor student. He is a member of both Future Teachers of America and Future Business Leaders of America. Xequan is dual enrolled at both Troy University and Wallace Community College. He has been described as “mature and levelheaded, with a focus on his future.” Xequan plans to attend Trenholm State Community College to study HVAC.

Scholarship Recipients

Our 2022 Youth Tour representatives were also recognized for their many accomplishments and awarded scholarships at this year's luncheon.

Cailin White

Cailin participates in cheer and is the captain of the soccer team. She is a member of not only the National Honor Society, but the National Latin Honor Society, the English Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta. Cailin is president of the Latin Club and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Students. A teacher had this to say about Cailin, "her list of accomplishments is limitless, but her character and her desire to help others are part of what makes Cailin so special." Cailin plans to attend Auburn University to study pre-med/chemistry.

Leslie Jacobsen

EVANGEL FAMILY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY

Leslie participates in the Bullock County 4H club and is a member of the choir at First Baptist Church. She volunteers for VBS and at the Red Door Theater as production staff. Leslie was the first runner-up for Bullock County's Distinguished Young Women and participated in First Baptist's mission trip. She is described as "dependable, trustworthy, and willing to take on any task assigned to her." Leslie plans to attend Southern Union Community College to study elementary education.

Anna Glynn Lott

Anna Glynn participates in volleyball, basketball, and softball, and she is the JV and varsity football manager. She is the vice president of both the SGA and Mu Alpha Theta. Anna Glynn is a member of the National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and she was a HOBY representative. She is also a nominee for the Jimmy Hitchcock Award. Anna Glynn is described as "original in her thought processes and her work ethic is unsurpassed." Anna Glynn plans to attend Troy University to study nursing.

Chael Kerr

Chael participates in varsity baseball at Pike Road School and is a member of the National Honor Society. He is part of the leadership team of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is also a coach for a youth travel baseball team. Chael also interned at Church of the Highlands during the summer. He is described as "a good-hearted kid who aims to lift up others and bring a wholesome smile to their face." Chael plans to major in business and is currently evaluating numerous baseball offers to finalize his college decision.

Lott Putnam

CONECUH SPRINGS CHRISTIAN SCHOOL

Lott participates in baseball, basketball, football, golf, and archery at Conecuh Springs Christian School, and he has won multiple awards for his athleticism. He is the president of the National Honor Society and was a Boys State representative. Lott is also a part of the Bullock County 4H Forestry Team. He has been described as "willing to serve others, volunteers without being asked, and is the person to whom others turn for support and affirmation." Lott plans to attend the University of Mobile to study kinesiology and education.
