Close encounters of the wild kind: Cooperative Environment Program

Young students get the chance to get up close and personal with local wildlife in their own classrooms through the Cooperative Environment program. This program, eagerly anticipated by schoolchildren each year, is presented by wildlife biologist Jimmy Stiles, who teaches children about preserving local ecosystems. It’s an informative, fun, and thrilling experience for students and teachers.

Fourth grade teachers interested in the program can reach out to Patty Singleton-Seay at 334-427-3508 or by email at psingleton@covington.coop.

Youth Tour: Future leaders start here

Every year, high school juniors compete for a chance to participate in the state and national Youth Tour programs. Students get to meet lawmakers, hear from motivating speakers and visit historic sites. They also learn about electric cooperatives and how they benefit their communities.

Youth Tour is a chance for tomorrow’s leaders to expand their horizons today and develop personal and professional skills that will help them on their journey.

“I made so many new friends and saw things I would have never gotten to see back home,” says Briley Douglas, delegate from Pleasant Home School, who was one of four students selected through an interview competition for the trip to D.C. “I made friendships that will last a lifetime!”

At CEC, our mission extends beyond providing reliable electricity. We take great pride in our commitment to community and education. With initiatives that include grant programs, hands-on workshops, scholarships, environmental education and Youth Tour, CEC strives to ensure a bright future for our region.
