Adamary Sosa has vivid memories of her mother making batches of homemade limbers when she was just a child living in Reading, Pennsylvania.

“She had a limber business and she would be up all night making limbers, and I would be the nosey kid taste testing the limbers,” Sosa said in an interview with AL DIA.

The refreshing homemade individually-made ice creams are frozen in plastic cups and come from Puerto Rico, and are the quintessential remedy to beat the summertime heat.

However, when the family moved to Philadelphia, Sosa’s mother grew hesitant when selling the limbers out of her home.

Often when Sosa began craving limbers, she couldn’t find any high quality ones like her mother used to make.

So, she began making them herself.

She wanted to add a gourmet twist, combining traditional cooking methods with different and popular flavors in the states. These flavors include caramel, Nutella, and Oreo.

Sosa began experimenting with different flavors and offered some limbers to her co-workers at the Norris Square Community Alliance, where she works.

Her co-workers loved them.

“I tried it, I launched a page and it went from there,” she said.

With the success of her creations from co-workers and friends on social media, Sosa began selling her frozen treats through Instagram, eventually naming her new found business, Simply Antojitos.

“It started with three simple flavors, and I started experimenting with other flavors and getting their opinions,” said Sosa.

She also delivers treats to her clients when they are not able to meet her at her meeting spot.

“I live in Juniata and so there is a spot close to my house, near Aldi grocery store, so anyone who wants to meet me to pick up the limbers can meet me there,” Sosa said.

Adamary Sosa tiene vívidos recuerdos de su madre haciendo tandas de limbers caseros cuando era niña y vivía en Reading (Pensilvania). “Tenía un negocio de limbers y se pasaba toda la noche haciendo lotes y lotes de estos y yo los probaba”, dijo Sosa en una entrevista con AL DÍA.

Procedentes de Puerto Rico, los refrescantes helados caseros se congelan de forma individual en vasos de plástico y son el remedio por excelencia para combatir el calor del verano. Sin embargo, cuando la familia se trasladó a Filadelfia, la madre de Sosa dudó sobre la posibilidad de venderlos fuera de su casa.

A menudo, Sosa se antojaba de limbers, pero no encontraba ninguno de la calidad de los que hacía su madre. Así empezó a prepararlos ella misma.

Quiso darles un toque gourmet combinando los métodos de cocción tradicionales con sabores diferentes y populares en los Estados Unidos, como caramelo, Nutella y Oreo.

Después de varios experimentos, Sosa decidió ofrecer algunos limbers a sus colegas en la Norris Square Community Alliance, donde trabaja. ¡Les encantaron! “Lo probé, lancé una página, y a partir de ahí empezó todo”, cuenta.

Con el éxito de sus creaciones, comenzó a vender sus golosinas congeladas a través de Instagram y nombró su nuevo negocio ‘Simply Antojitos’. “Empecé con tres sabores sencillos y luego pasé a experimentar con otros y a conocer distintas opiniones”, dijo.

Cuando sus clientes no pueden acercarse al punto de encuentro, Sosa les acerca los limbers: “Vivo en Juniata y por eso hay un lugar cerca de mi casa, cerca de la tienda de comestibles Aldi, así que cualquiera que quiera reunirse conmigo para recoger sus limbers puede encontrarme allí”, dice.
