After a forced break due to pandemic, the Philadelphia Museum of Art is pleased to announce the return of its Community Weekend from June 16-19.

The program of events starts with Juneteenth or Liberation Day to celebrate Philadelphia’s diverse communities and commemorate the end of slavery in the United States.

On Friday, June 16, the Friday Lounge will be held in the Great Stair Hall of the main building. From 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., the public will enjoy live music by Rashaan Rich & The JuneB All Stars. El viernes, 16 de junio, se llevará a cabo el Friday Lounge en el Great Stair Hall del edi cio principal. Community Weekend ends on Monday, June 19 with the dedication of a plaque honoring the enslaved African descendants who worked at the historic Mount Pleasant Nell Mansion in Fairmount Park. Built in the 1760s and overlooking the Schuylkill River, Mount Pleasant was long known as a summer retreat for the wealthy before the revolutionary war, but is not often remembered for the labor of enslaved blacks to maintain it. The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission has authorized the unveiling ceremony for the memorial plaque. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm.
