The ultimate goal of the architect ...is to create a paradise.every building,every product of architecture..should be a fruit of our endeavour to build an earthly paradise for people.

U-TURN

After very intensively studying the Lajpat nagar built fabric i came upon multiple problems and multiple advantages but the interesting part was that how both were fused together. The central market is the social image of the precinct but to the at the neighbourhood level it causes a lot of problems for the residents living there.

The density being so high the parking becomes a big issue, despite being so many parks in the precinct the green spaces are unsafe for the community children to play around because the function of the road next to a park is very public and creates a safety issue

U-TURN

The built fabric of Lajpat nagar goes back to the independence era ,where Indians migrating from Pakistan post-independence were getting settled. Migrators have settled in Lajpat nagar and though some parts are posh some clusters have been so saturated that living conditions are worsening.

Providing a 20 acre Garden which sits on the Lajpat nagar fabric acts as a transition space for the people. Connecting to a network of skywalks which allow people to walk/cycle across the garden and reach the metro station . retrofitting the built with green restores the balance in the ecology. And makes entire precinct more livable and a much easy transition through the city.

The precinct of Lajpat Nagar has such a diverse built fabric and offers a lot to every kind of demographic. People majorly around the central market area people come to work from different parts of the NCR region. Even after having the Feroze Gandhi road which is 22m wide the right of way available is almost as low as 5-6 meters.

As a continuation to the 8th semester, I carry forward my understanding of the Lajpat Nagar urban precinct and all the acupunctures I did which broadly were based on a vision of a self sustaining transit oriented precinct, with retail being the most prominent image of the precinct

In broader vision the self sustaining meant to produce energy and consume without being very heavily dependent on non renewable, like creating electricity from garbage that the precinct produces and also to take u turn back to a better quality of Air to breathe. By retrofitting with a 20acre green terrace garden. The selection of site plays a important role landmark wise and the context has everything Lajpat nagar offers but on a smaller scale. Delhi being a very hot climate area which experiences strong sunlight throughout the year the built was oriented in a way that the my most of the units have a access to natural ventilation but the solar gain doesn’t affect the temperature inside.

Reduced solar gain on the façade helped me achieving a low temperature inside the habitable spaces and overall reduced energy consumption in form of air conditioners

THE VISCOSITY

I created this project in my 6th semester design studio, the brief was to design a skyscraper in the Sikander region of Gurgaon Haryana. Where the built was to be designed parametrically but for the Gurgaon of 2050 and the functions were to be very heavily influenced by our vision.

I derived the parameters from the very detailed site analysis & studying the land use plans of the precinct and the future land use plans helped us visualize how the precinct would be like in the future Our site with a extremely heavy influx of floating population every hour because of the Sikander metro station and a very important junction for daily commuters who come from various parts of the Capital NCR region

After our visit to COLOMBO, Sri Lanka I witnessed how despite the country being poor this part of the country I very well built with high rises and the built fabric changes very drastically. So our approach to tackle with our site being next to the Dutch Hospital which has a high influx of people for food, libraries and other functions . the need for people of colombo from a space like this is for a transition space which provides them with cultural showcasing’s of the country as well as modern functions which respond to the context and plug in to the lives of people of the precinct. Plugging in the vernacular materials and orienting the building to channelize maximum sea breeze for natural cooling.
