I would like to acknowledge and pay my respects to the Dharug people, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we have long added our footprints and layers of our exploitation of Country. On their land I proposed a design, that envisions a future which promotes mutual respect and a two way relationship between Sydney and Country of the Dharug people.

An attempt to instill life into a defunct structure and using it as a medium to learn the value of the very land& country it was built on.
The brief provided the privileged opportunity to learn about the custodians of this land, the Aboriginal peoples, and their philosophy of sharing knowledge with new generations through storytelling, songs, dance, art and more.
As such, the site has been reimagined as an open for all program which provides an avenue for visitors to learn about Country and the history of the place.
It kindles the thoughts to look at INFRATECTURE (infrastructure+architecture) and its effects by experiencing the space itself and what it has left behind. It also gives hope to a future where the community is better equipped to care for Country by integrating values of the country.
The idea is to dissect the scenarios in which INFRATECTURE that becomes dysfunctional can offer an opportunity to utilise the space to connect with the very people of the city which it once served. These spaces can be transformed from a private and introverted realm into a social, community oriented and open for all site. By reimagining the voids created in the aftermath of abandoned INFRATECTURE, a new sense of identity can be infused into the spaces. They can become a place of interaction or quiet meditative and contemplative activity which leads to the provocation of questions and thoughts in people’s minds. Thus giving rise to a discourse that addresses the urgent need for INFRATECTURE (Infrastructure + Architecture) to Care for Country.

This project was envisioned as a pavilion at the Dubai Expo representing a collective of unrepresented African countries facing a severe climate crisis and water scarcity.
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Dr. Shailaja Divakarla
Concept Sketch
This pavilion is a visual journey enlightening visitors with the story of reviving water resources in the simplest of ways.
The pavilion begins with a concept of creating awareness of sustainability in countries which lack the resources to construct pavilions. The pavilion will be a climate responsive design which will highlight problems faced by these nations and how they could be tackled efficiently without resource wastage.
Rhino, Design Builder, EnergyPlus, Enscape, Adobe Suite
Shuangjiang He, Scott Doherty
Sustainability is not about financial backing for technological advancements, expensive imported materials or processes in large scaled design. The design resonates our approach to using the pavilion as a platform to showcase rudimentary strategies in climate responsive design from lesser developed nations; a reminder to the world that we all share the impacts of climate change. By focusing on water conservation and localised mitigation techniques, the pavilion will bear the message of equality & responsibility to fight climate change

The project explores the integration of structural, environmental and services systems within architectural design. A challenging insert within the growing Barangaroo context, the tower embraces multiple technological features to mitigate climatic conditions and attain comfortable indoor spaces sustainably. The facade design was a culmination of a robust research into various case studies and software simulations to achieve the desired results. The structure employs outrigger trusses to allow for a large peripheral atrium like area with vegetation to enhance the spatial character of the building.

A critical questioning of the approach to renewal of urban spaces led to the idea that renewal does not always mean ‘building’ The publis space insert is a space to embrace the cultures that thrive within the urban fabric of Green Square
Green Square, Sydney
Prof. Duangfang Lu
Rhino, Grasshopper, ArcGIS, Enscape, Adobe Suite
The story of Green Square is far from over and a relevant and responsible approach to urban planning could resolve the problems around it. A revival of the vegetation along with a lively communal lifestyle is likely to benefit Green Square and its Urban Renewal Program. Groundwater infiltration is also enhanced by converting the once hardscaped cemented surface into softscape and porous groundwork. Almost 40% of the ground surface will be permeable and allow rainwater infiltration. Renewal does not always mean building more The removal of built mass is equally valuable to improving the urban environment. An act of balancing the dense development and the voids in this density is vital for a healthy urban lifestyle.

Sectional View Showing Structural Components of Habitat Module Concept
Humans have been fascinated with the planet Mars for thousands of years. Only in the last half a century has it been possible to envisage sending people to our celestial neighbour. Since then, a rich discourse has evolved concerning how to achieve this goal. The discussion, thus far, has been dominated by mechanical and aerospace engineers with marginal participation from architects.
The thesis explores the issues involved in conceiving and constructing habitats on the surface of Mars that can be addressed through architecture. The project aims to design a habitat for astronauts who would travel to Mars as the subsequent human mission after a successful human returnjourney exploration mission. This will happen after the corroboration to establish the workability of a human habitat on Mars for the long-term missions involving larger groups of people moving to Mars for an indefinite period of time.
