KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) -- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-PENRO) - Aklan, together with various volunteer groups, recently planted a total of 900 tree seedlings in participation to the Nationwide Simultaneous Tree Planting Activity in celebration of the Philippine Environment Month 2022 this June. The tree planting activity was conducted at Barangay Cabugao, Ibajay, Aklan and joined by 259 volunteers coming from national government agencies and other organizations in the province like the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Philippine National Police (PNP) Ibajay, Aklan State University (ASU) Ibajay Campus, Community Defense Unit (CDU), Municipal Environment and Natural Resources (MENRO) Ibajay, Engineering Brigade, and Riders and Vloggers. Of the 900 tree seedlings planted, 500 were Narra while 400 were Mountain Agoho, according to DENR PENRO Aklan. Theme of this year’s Environment Month celebration is “Aksyon Para sa Natatanging Mundo.” Meanwhile, another activity, spearheaded by DENR PENRO Aklan early this month to protect the earth, was the conduct of a coastal clean-up together with volunteers from the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources (MENRO) of LGU New Washington, Aklan and from Barangay Lalab, Batan, Aklan. The activity was in celebration of World Environment Day with the theme “Only One Earth.” The coastal clean-up, conducted at the downstream of Jal-o River in New Washington and Batan, Aklan, netted a total of
ILOILO CITY (PIA) - - The provincial government of Aklan will now accept, process and issue the Community Environmental Management and Community Relations Certificate (CEMCRR) and the Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) for sand and gravel and quarry permit applications within the province. This after the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region (MGB) VI of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region VI entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the transfer of such functions with the provincial government of Aklan. KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) -- The municipality of Kalibo was recently bestowed the 2021 National Anti-Drug Abuse Council Performance Award. The award was given by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Philippine Drug Enforcement
Agency (PDEA) and Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) during the joint meeting of the Municipal Peace and Order Council and the Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Council, according to a press release from the the Kalibo municipal government. The award was received by Mayor Emerson Lachica from Municipal Local Government Operations Officer V Ava Miriam Seraspi of DILG-Aklan. In handing the award, Seraspi told Lachica that the recognition is one of his best legacies as a local government official of Kalibo. “You were also instrumental in the high functionality rating in the 2020 Performance Audit of the Anti-Drug Abuse Council,” Seraspi told Lachica. Seraspi also lauded the mayor because it was during his term when the municipality of Kalibo became drug-cleared. The headline inflation in the province of Aklan increased further to 4.1 percent in May 2022, from 3.2 percent recorded in April 2022. This is the highest recorded inflation since June 2020. Inflation in May 2021 was lower at 2.4 percent. The average inflation for the first five months of the year stood at 2.7 percent. (Figure 1 and Table A) The increase in the province’s inflation was mainly brought about by the higher annual increase in the index for food and non-alcoholic beverages at 5.0 percent; alcoholic beverages and tobacco, 7.4 percent; transport, 9.4 percent; and recreation, sport and culture, 1.4 percent. Meanwhile, annual upticks slowed down in the indices of clothing and footwear at -0.8 percent; and housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels at 3.0 percent. The rest of the commodity groups either retained their previous month’s inflation rates or had zero percent annual growths. (Table 4) For food index, it increased further by 5.2 percent in May 2022, from 3.5 percent in the past month. In May 2021, food

Headline Inflation… From page 02 index was lower at -0.2 percent. (Table 7) The annual growth rate of vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses went up to 16.5 percent during the reference period, compared to 2.0 percent recorded in the previous month. In addition, annual growth rates of rice at 7.0 percent and meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals at 9.1 percent contributed largely in the annual increments of food index. The following food groups exhibited higher annual increase during the month: 1. Ready-made food and other food products, 2.0 percent; 2. Flour, bread and other bakery products, pasta products, and other cereals, 2.5 percent;
3. Sugar, confectionery and desserts, 10.5 percent; 4. Fruits and nuts, 0.1 percent; 5. Milk, other dairy products and eggs, 4.1 percent; and 6. Corn, 2.6 percent. On the contrary, fish and other seafood index had a lower annual growth at -2.0 percent, while, index of oils and fats remained stable at 4.9 percent. (Table 5) Inflation rate is the annual rate of change or increase in the averages prices of goods and services typically purchased by consumers. Consumer Price Index (CPI), on the other hand, is an indicator of the change in the average retail prices of a fixed basket of goods and services commonly purchased by the households relative to a base year.
