KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) -- Aklan’s provincial officials duly elected during the May 9, 2022 national and local elections had been proclaimed by the Provincial Board of Canvassers (PBOC) here.

The proclamation held, May 10, at the Aklan Sangguniang Panlalawigan Session Hall which served as the venue for the canvassing of votes, was led by Aklan acting Provincial Election Supervisor lawyer Reinier Layson who chairs the PBOC, with Commission on Audit (COA) Supervising Auditor Katherine S. Cuyong as vice chair, and DepEd Division Superintendent Dr. Miguel Mac Aposin as member-secretary.

Proclaimed were elected governor Jose Enrique Miraflores, re-elected vice governor lawyer Reynaldo Quimpo, re-elected representative Carlito Marquez for Aklan’s first legislative district; and Teodorico Haresco, the re-elected representative for Aklan’s second legislative district.

Also proclaimed were Aklan’s new set of Sangguniang Proclaimed provincial winners in Aklan composed of incoming governor, Panlalawigan members.

For the first district, proclaimed were Nemesio Neron, vice governor, representatives from the 1st and 2nd districts of Aklan, and Sangguniang Panlalawigan members from the 1st and second legislative districts.

KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) -- The province of Aklan’s two first class municipalities – Kalibo, the capital town, and Malay, where Boracay Island is, also top the list in having big number of voters, respectively, in the province for the May 9 national and local elections.

Per record from the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) provincial office here, of Aklan’s 409,938 total number of registered voters some 54,660 are in Kalibo while 42,135 voters are in Malay town.

Completing the top 5 towns in Aklan which are sources of a big number of voters are New Washington with 33,238; Ibajay with 32,920; and Banga with 29,166.

Kalibo, New Washington and Banga towns belong to the first congressional district, while Malay and Ibajay are in the second congressional district.

Other towns and their respective number of registered voters are Altavas, with 17,993; Balete - 17,875; Batan - 23,831; Buruanga - 12,598; Lezo - 10,039; Libacao - 19,190; Madalag 13,362; Makato - 21,282; Malinao - 16,428; Nabas - 25,481; Aklan Provincial Capitol Building in Kalibo, Aklan Numancia - 24,163; and Tangalan - 15,577.

Of the 10 incoming SP members, only two are reelectionists – Neron and Tejada, while the rest will be on their first terms.

guniang Bayan members in their respective towns, with the exception of Romeo Dalisay who served before as mayor of Nabas, Aklan.

All the proclaimed candidates belong to Tibyog Akean, a local party established in the province to forge a united leadership in 1995.

Meanwhile, out of 17 mayoralty seats in the province contested during the elections, 15 were won by candidates who ran under the Tibyog Akean party.

The newly elected mayors, who were proclaimed by their respective Municipal Board of Canvassers (MBOC), include Denny D. Refol Sr. for Altavas; Dexter M. Calizo for Balete; Noel L Redison -Banga; Concepcion Labindao Buruanga; Juris B. Sucro - Kalibo; Mary Lenette R. Fernandez - Lezo; Charito Navarosa - Libacao; Rex T. Gubatina - Madalag; Frolibar Bautista - Malay; Josephine I. IquinaMalinao; Maria Fe T. Lazaleta - Nabas, Jessica Panambo - New Washington, Jeserel Templonuevo - Numancia; and Gary T. Fuentes for Tangalan.

Of the 15 elected mayors, eight are incumbents/re-electionists; five are new or on their first term; while one (Gubatina) ran again for mayor after serving as vice mayor for three terms; and another one (Bautista), who ran for mayor and won after serving as Acting Mayor for three years when the duly elected mayor was dismissed due to grave misconduct in 2019.

Five from the list of elected mayors are women, with three who had been re-elected – Concepcion Labindao of Buruanga, Mary Lenette Fernadez of Lezo, and Josephine Equina of Malinao.
