KALIBO, Aklan – The province of Aklan has temporarily banned for 30 days the entry of domestic and wild birds as well as poultry products and by-products from other regions.

Due to the threat of bird flu, also known as avian influenza, that had killed 42,000 quails and ducks in four central Luzon farms, Aklan governor Florencio Miraflores issued Executive Orders Nos. 12 and 13, series of 2022 on March 2 and March 8, 2022, respectively.

The two executive orders declared for the temporary ban on the entry of all live domestic and wild birds and poultry products and byproducts including its semen and manure from other regions into the province of Aklan from March 2 to April 1, 2022.

KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) – Aklan’s first former rebel (FR) from the municipality of Libacao became the first recipient of financial assistance from the government in the province under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

The financial assistance, in the form of a check amounting to a total of P65,000.00, was received by the FR’s mother who represented him during the first quarter joint meeting E-CLIP is a government program that aims to help former members of the of the Provincial Peace and Communist Party of the Philippines -New People’s Army-National Democratic Order Council (PPOC) and Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) and Militia ng Bayan to restore their allegiance to the Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Philippine Government. Eighteen (18) Aklanon MSMEs are among the 79 exhibitors of this year’s Bagsakan Fair at Robinson’s Place Iloilo, Iloilo City on March 2-6, 2022.

The MSMEs to represent the food sector were Baligyaan Nature’s Products, Bread & Butter Prime Bakeshop, Jocyl’s Food Products, Rosa Foods, Inc., and Sunshine Breadmart. They will feature the most-liked local pasalubong treats from the province like processed meat, bakery products, healthy drink options, and many more.

For the non-food sector, there will be a highlight of the Aklan piña fabric and other traditional wearables and homestyle decorations made from abaca, nito, and coconut, among others. The participating MSMEs are Aklan Piña Cloth Industry, APARICIO ARC, Buttons n’ Things Arts and Crafts Shop, Handmaiden Vie Online Shop, JAF Handicrafts & Piña Cloth, Madalag RIC, Man-up MPC, PWD Balete Association, Rentillo Enterprise, Reycon’s Pina Cloth and & Industry, San Ramon Abaca Handicraft, and Vil’s Handicrafts.

OneAklan – Want Aklan, the first local online marketing website launched by Mr. Heinz Militar of Selah Studio, will also participate to introduce their partner merchants’ various line of products.

This move, according to Miraflores, is necessary as there is an urgent need to prevent its entry to protect the poultry industry, welfare of its people and to maintain the bird flu free-status of the province.

The province’s chief executive likewise ordered that Veterinary Quarantine personnel assigned at the provincial borders and ports should carry out routine quarantine inspection for incoming passengers, vehicles, poultry products and by-products Further, all municipal mayors and barangay captains in Aklan are ordered to provide assistance to the veterinary quarantine personnel assigned in quarantine areas and disposal area for confiscated products; and to strengthen biosafety, hygiene and sanitation standards in abattoirs, dressing plant, public markets and poultry farms.

Miraflores urged all stakeholders to be vigilant to report to the authorities any occurrence of unusual increase in mortalities of birds.

As reported by the Bureau of Animal Industry, the highly pathogenic avian influenza was first detected on January 6, 2022 from a duck f a r m i n B r g y .
