TOP STATE WINNERS:

Brianna and Morghan, sophomores at South Lake High School in Groveland, recently placed third at the 2016 Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) State Leadership Conference with their Certifi ed Emergency Response Team (CERT) skills.

ONE OF MY PASSIONS: I’m really passionate about school and my extracurricular activities of weightlifting and HOSA. I put my all into both of them.

FAVORITE SUBJECT: Science. I really like learning how things work, especially when it comes to the human body and how it does everything.

AN EXCITING MOMENT: Winning third at state HOSA just blew my mind. It was the most exciting thing. It was our fi rst year to compete, our fi rst year in HOSA, and we were just surprised to be able to go to state after getting second place in regionals.

BEST ADVICE EVER RECEIVED: “Everything happens for a reason; just trust that everything will work out in the end.” It was advice from my mom at a time when I was really down. Now I tell myself that almost every day.

ROLE MODELS IN LIFE: My mom because she helps me in everything, and also my dad. He’s smart.

IF I COULD TRADE PLACE WITH SOMEONE FOR A DAY:

I would trade places with Carrie Underwood because she’s beautiful, really nice, and she’s a great singer.

GOALS AND DREAMS: To go to the University of Florida, and become a pediatric surgeon helping a bunch of kids. I would love to cure a disease that has never been cured; I want to help as many people as I can.

CREDIT MY SUCCESS TO: Just about everybody in my life—my friends, parents, my sister—and they all told me, “You can do this!” They helped me study (for emergency response training) and my 10-yearold sister was my mannequin person for a skit we had to do. She laid on the fl oor and I would tell her, “OK. I’m wrapping up your wounds now.”

FAVORITE QUOTE: “Everything happens for a reason.”

ONE OF MY PASSIONS: I love reading books. I’ll read any genre, I just like to read.

FAVORITE SUBJECT: Probably health science. I like to learn about how our bodies are made and how they work. I also like to learn about how problems would be solved, and how to help people.

AN EXCITING MOMENT: This would be when we won for our HOSA competition, CERT. I wasn’t actually at the awards, I was at Navy Ball (for ROTC), but Brianna (my teammate) was, and when she called me to tell me that we had won, I was super excited. Neither of us were actually expecting to win.

BEST ADVICE EVER RECEIVED: From my dad, he told me to always stick to my family and God, because those two things will get me through anything.

ROLE MODELS IN LIFE: My mom, my dad, and my older sister, Maryn.

IF I COULD TRADE PLACES WITH SOMEONE FOR

A DAY: I don’t really know. Probably someone rich, like Steve Jobs, so I could put some of their money in my bank account. But other than that, there’s nobody else I really want to be.

GOALS AND DREAMS: I want to go to UF, and either be an ophthalmologist, or some other type of doctor, or do something in the agriculture fi eld. I also want to own a nice house, and own some land, maybe near the beach.

CREDIT MY SUCCESS TO: My parents for always encouraging me to do my best and apply myself to whatever I choose to do, and God for blessing me with my life, and my skills.

FAVORITE QUOTE: “When it’s dark enough, men can see the stars.” –Ralph Waldo Emerson
