Matthew Bourne’s audacious, rule-breaking reinvention of Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece caused a sensation when it premiered almost 30 years ago.
It has now become the most successful dance theatre production of all time, creating new audiences and inspiring generations of young dancers. In celebration of that ongoing impact, Swan Lake will take flight once more in a major new revival for the next generation of dancers, and for audiences who will experience it for the very first time.
Thrilling, bold, witty and emotive, this genre-defining event is still best known for replacing the female corps de ballet with a menacing male ensemble, which shattered convention, turning tradition on its head.

Sunny
Afternoon returns to UK stages,
bringing to life the music, the drama, and the legacy of The Kinks’ incredible rise to fame.
Get ready to turn up the volume – Sunny Afternoon, the Olivier Award-winning musical celebrating the music and story of The Kinks, is hitting the road again for a brand new UK tour in 2025/26. Developed over four years by The Kinks co-founder Ray Davies CBE, Australian playwright Joe Penhall, and acclaimed West End producer Sonia Friedman, the show first burst onto the stage at Hampstead Theatre in 2014 before transferring to the Harold Pinter Theatre in London’s West End. It didn’t just play to packed houses – it captured hearts, selling over 430,000 tickets during its two-year West End run.
Based on the electrifying rise of The Kinks, one of the most iconic rock bands to emerge from Britain during the late 20th century, Sunny Afternoon is set against the backdrop of Britain on the cusp of the rebellious 60s.
This exhilarating production brings to life The Kinks’ journey through success, sibling rivalry, and the sound that defined a generation –
and still inspires today. With a soundtrack of legendary hits like You Really Got Me, Lola, and All Day and All of the Night, audiences are treated to a story packed with raw energy, humour, heartbreak, and music that never ceases to resonate through every generation.
Following its West End triumph, Sunny Afternoon toured the UK and Ireland in 2016 and 2017, playing in 34 cities, and entertaining over 300,000 fans. The production scooped four Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical and Outstanding Achievement in Music for Ray Davies – a testament to the power of The Kinks’ music and the authenticity of their story.
And now, it’s back! This highly anticipated revival comes courtesy of Sonia Friedman Productions and ATG Productions. Davies himself expressed his excitement, noting, ‘In these times of political uncertainties, it is a relief to know that Sunny Afternoon is on the horizon to lift our spirits.’
The production is directed by Edward Hall and boasts a creative team including designer Miriam Buether, with choreography by Adam Cooper, lighting design by Rick Fisher and sound design by Matt McKenzie. Musical and vocal adaptations are by Ray Davies and Elliott Ware based on original Kinks’ recordings. Sunny Afternoon remains a shining example of what happens when world-class storytelling meets legendary music.
As producer Sonia Friedman puts it, ‘I’m thrilled that we’re bringing back our joyous, celebratory, Olivier Award-winning Best New Musical for a new UK tour. Ray Davies’ music and lyrics capture the poetry and poignancy of everyday life with honesty and wit. I can’t wait for audiences across the UK to see it –
I’ve truly missed it.’

As the National Theatre’s acclaimed production of Dear England embarks on its first national tour from September 2025 to March 2026, its writer, James Graham recalls England’s loss to Germany in Euro 96 – and Gareth Southgate’s infamous penalty miss. The start of it all…
‘I was in my first school play in Nottingham. We’d come off stage and were watching on TV. When Gareth missed, I was in tears. I couldn’t make sense of it.’
That painful moment opens Dear England, Graham’s hit play about Southgate’s eight years as England manager. It premiered at the National Theatre in 2023, transferred to the West End, won an Olivier Award in 2024, and now returns updated, following Southgate’s resignation after Euro 2024.
It is funny, insightful and as emotionally charged as watching England play. Southgate’s belief in changing the culture of masculinity – using empathy and inclusion to tackle the fear of penalties – became the play’s central theme. ‘I love putting institutions on-stage to make sense of public life,’ says Graham. ‘Football is a big part of our culture. When I went to watch Nottingham Forest recently, it felt like walking to a cathedral.’
Inspired by England’s World Cup run in 2018, Graham noticed something had changed: ‘There was compassion, decency. I was curious how someone changes an institution so fast.’
Learning Southgate had brought in psychologist Pippa Grange, Graham saw a compelling story arc – from the man who missed a penalty to the man who tried to solve that trauma.
He met Southgate just weeks before opening night. ‘It was nerve-wracking. It could’ve changed everything,’ he laughs. That creative edge remains in the final production, thanks to director Rupert Goold and a top-tier team.
Graham now ends the play with England’s Euro 2024 final loss to Spain. ‘As a fan, I’d have loved a win. But as a playwright, falling just short is profound.’
For Graham, Dear England is about more than football. ‘It’s about masculinity, identity, and what it means to care.’ As he puts it: ‘You need timeless, character-driven stories that say something about being human.’
Dear England visits New Victoria Theatre, Woking, in 2026. ‘I’m so excited to bring it there,’ says Graham. ‘It’ll be my first time – a new memory.’
The National Theatre’s 2024 Olivier Award-winning smash hit comes to Woking in a highly anticipated national tour.
It’s time to change the game. The country that gave the world football has since delivered a painful pattern of loss. The England men’s team has the worst track record for penalties in the world, and new manager Gareth Southgate knows he needs to open his mind and face up to the years of hurt to take team and country back to the promised land.
From multi award-winning writer James Graham (Sherwood, BBC) and director Rupert Goold (Patriots, Cold War), this five-star ‘new stage epic’ (The Telegraph) tells the uplifting, at times heartbreaking, and ultimately inspiring story of Gareth Southgate’s revolutionary tenure as England manager in this gripping examination of nation and game.

Matthew Bourne’s production of The Red Shoes returns, blending passion, obsession and breathtaking design, in this Olivier Award-winning production.
A timeless fairytale and Academy Awardwinning movie, The Red Shoes has captivated audiences and inspired generations of dancers with its powerful tale of obsession, possession and one girl’s dream to be the greatest dancer in the world. Victoria Page lives to dance but her ambitions become a fierce struggle between the two men who inspire her passion.
Matthew Bourne’s magical double Olivier Award-winning production of the legendary Powell and Pressburger film is set to a score orchestrated by Terry Davies, featuring the mesmerising music of golden-age Hollywood composer Bernard Herrmann, with sumptuous designs by Lez Brotherston (set and costumes), Paule Constable (lighting) and Paul Groothuis (sound).
‘Matthew Bourne’s Production of The Red Shoes was the culmination of a twenty-year ambition to bring Powell and Pressburger’s seminal 1948 film to the stage. It was also, in many ways, a personal love letter to a life in theatre and dance. When we created the show in 2016, we were not prepared for the overwhelming response from audiences everywhere we went both at home and internationally. The production went on to win two Olivier Awards and was honoured by
the LA Critics Awards for both choreography and for Lez Brotherston’s memorable set and costume design. This production was certainly a landmark event for New Adventures, becoming an instant classic and a beloved addition to our repertoire. I’m so happy to see it return this year, especially as our last tour in 2020 was sadly cut short by the pandemic and left many of our loyal audiences throughout the UK disappointed.’
So, welcome back to the Ballet Lermontov, and to paraphrase the great impresario himself… ‘It’s time to put on the red shoes, Vicky, and dance for us again...’
An intoxicating drama where life imitates art with fateful consequences, The Red Shoes will dazzle your senses and break your heart.
