Young people in the Liverpool City Region have taken part in a major ballet project thanks to funding from the Empire Theatre Trust and English National Ballet. ‘Ballet Explored’ has seen ENB outreach staff working with the Empire’s Creative Learning Department in recent months to drive passion and participation in an art form which has been an integral part of the Empire’s programme for decades. The Trust agreed a grant of £7500 to finance the project.
Young people in underprivileged areas have especially benefited from the scheme, which involved 170 students from 12 secondary schools and colleges and culminated in a performance from all at the Empire in March. Trust Chairman David Morgan said: ‘Ballet nationally has had its funding issues recently, so the Trust has stepped up to help ensure support for those young people in and around our city who might not normally get the chance to experience this important dance form’.
‘We’ve been delighted to see the results of Ballet Explored coming to successful fruition on-stage this year.’
Liverpool Empire Theatre is managed on behalf of the Empire Theatre (Merseyside) Trust Ltd and trustees: David Morgan (Chairman), Tony Ensor, Pam McGaffney, Lesley Marshall, John Thompson and Sean Marley. Secretary to the Trust is Carol Mason. Registered charity 509548 liverpoolempiretrust.co.uk Photo by Phil Tragen .atgtickets.com/liverpool*
