“Very, very funny and a lot of fun” – Time Out “The theatrical treat of the year” – Heat
On behalf of Jeff Richmond Nell Benjamin and myself, we are delighted to accept the award and want to thank the wonderful audiences who have come to the show.
Mothers and daughters, hen nights, and middleincome gays. We appreciate you and we want to thank the WhatsOnStage readers for voting for MEAN GIRLS as ‘Best New Musical’.
We made a lot of revisions that are unique to the London production, so this is wonderfully validating. Thank you to the incredibly talented London cast, not only for their brilliant performances, but for really embracing the spirit of the show and being so kind to each other in real life.
Meanness has metastasized in our world. Hopefully our show uses humour to remind us how seductive yet ultimately self-injurious and poisonous that behaviour is and queen bees are always toppled eventually. It was already an honour for us to be a part of the West End at the iconic Savoy Theatre and to work with our friends and partners at Sonia Friedman Productions, this is above and beyond. Thank you so so much.

THE CHOIR OF MAN is back!
THE CHOIR OF MAN has returned to the Arts Theatre in the West End for a limited season!
Brimming with hits from artists such as Queen, Luther Vandross, Sia, Paul Simon, Adele, Guns & Roses, Avicii and Katy Perry to name but a few, this is a pub like no other! A wildly talented group of incredible instrumentalists, world-class wordsmiths, and sensational singers; this cast of nine (extra) ordinary guys serve it all... live!
An uplifting celebration of community and friendship where everyone is welcome. It’s 90 minutes of feel-good, foot-stomping entertainment unlike anything else in the West End. This Olivier Award-nominated worldwide smash is now going into its FOURTH ‘singsational’ year!
We recently interviewed Nic Doodson (the creator of THE CHOIR OF MAN). Read on to see what he had to say…
What inspired the concept of the show?
I got the idea over a pint in a beer garden back in 2016 when my coproducer casually said, “I’ve got an idea for the title of a show… THE CHOIR OF MAN”. It hit me right then that the magic of simply being together— sharing laughs, songs, and a drink—could be transformed into an unforgettable performance. How did you go about blending classic pub culture with a theatrical experience?
Having spent years as a professional singer in choirs and small ensembles and plenty of time in pubs, I knew that it would be a great environment to mix the two worlds. Funnily enough they share a lot in common - both are places to raise your voice with others; and often the loudest voice is the most discordant. So I brought together ordinary blokes who were as comfortable belting out tunes in a pub as they were on stage, in an effort to create an experience that’s both intimate and theatrical.
The show features a mix of well-known songs. How do you choose the music, and how important is it to the storytelling?
The rule we had for any song in the show was that it had to tell a story. Pubs have always been a place where people share stories, histories and local myths and legends. So we needed a to find songs that really had a narrative and journey in each one - or that had a strong theme with real meaning. Interestingly, most of the songs that fit that category are older songs…mostly, not all. I think that’s an interesting commentary on the overall direction of song writing these days.
What qualities do you look for when casting performers for THE CHOIR OF MAN?
I look for genuine, down-to-earth blokes who can sing, play an instrument, or even throw in a bit of movement, but most importantly, they have to feel like they belong in a pub with their mates. It’s all about that natural, friendly vibe that makes every performance feel like a night out with your closest friends.
How long does it take to rehearse and develop the new cast for the show?
We typically dive into about three intense weeks of rehearsals and creative brainstorming to get everything just right. It’s a whirlwind of hard work, laughter, and genuine camaraderie that really shapes the show into something special. The cast begin the process as strangers and often end as best mates.
Do you encourage cast members to bring their own personalities into their roles?
Oh, absolutely! I love it when each performer brings their own quirks and flair to the stage— it really makes the show feel authentic and real. When everyone feels free to be themselves, the whole performance lights up with genuine energy.
What is your favourite song in the show and why?
Oh goodness, what a hard question. It constantly changes. I think right now it’s 500 Miles because our version is just so silly and fun.
Please sum up the show in just 2 words.
Great Night-Out (is that cheating?!)

Get ready for a wise-cracking, column-shaking, underworld-rocking ride of adventure and self-discovery. In tunics.

Criminal and Man in the Mirror, MJ is created by two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage, and director and Tony Award-winning choreographer Christopher Wheeldon Book now for a legendary night out!
What was your reaction when you found out you’d be playing MJ in the UK production?
Instant excitement. When I first came here last year, there was something about the city that I felt was calling me to come back. When it was confirmed, all I felt was ready to get started.
How do you prepare to step into the shoes of such an iconic performer like Michael Jackson?
A lot of practice. I still practice. I’m still trying to find more nuances and details. Because he was so detailed and nuanced. Also… a ton of water and sleep.
How does it feel to bring MJ THE MUSICAL to UK audiences for the first time?
It feels so cool. Of course, UK audiences are different from the US. But I love that I get to kind of feel like a stranger to the whole country and bring them something fresh. Something that is MJ with a little bit of myself as well.
If you could time travel to any era of Michael Jackson’s career, which moment would you love to witness firsthand?
The entire Bad era. EASILY my favourite era and album. I would’ve loved to have witnessed his 1988 Wembley performance live.
If you had to describe your MJ THE MUSICAL experience so far using only an MJ lyric, what would it be?
‘’You Rocked my world, you know you did.”
If you could only perform one MJ song for the rest of your life, which one would it be?
Smooth Criminal.
Do you have a pre-show ritual or superstition before hitting the stage? I try to get as much sleep as possible before a show. If needed, I’ll take a nap but ensure I have at least an hour and a half to wake/warm myself up. How long did it take you to master the moonwalk? Any funny fails along the way?
I’m still trying to master the moonwalk, it’s a constant work in progress. He was that good.

Sadler’s Wells, Extended Play and Universal Music UK present
With orchestral score
In 1973, guitar smashing rock genius Pete Townshend wrote QUADROPHENIA. Recorded by The Who – it quickly became an iconic and multi-million selling album. QUADROPHENIA defined a generation and in 1979 inspired the cult classic feature film of the same name. Now it’s back – this time as an explosive dance production – QUADROPHENIA, a Mod Ballet with a cast of exceptional dancers, introducing new audiences to troubled mod Jimmy’s story while remaining true in spirit to the muchloved original.
QUADROPHENIA is steeped in the mythology of the 1960s – sharp suits, soul music, vespas and parkas but its themes of lost youth, rebellion, the search for belonging and hunger for social change are just as urgent today.
A rich, orchestral version of the album by Rachel Fuller, first heard in concert version at The Royal Albert Hall and recorded by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is the backdrop for this adrenaline filled rollercoaster ride. Choreographer Paul Roberts and director Rob Ashford bring together some of the UK’s finest creative talent from the worlds of music, theatre, film and dance.

Gird your loins! THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA has arrived and it’s “absolutely fabulous!” (The Standard).
Featuring “irresistible songs” (The Standard) by Elton John and a “terrific” (Time Out) performance from VANESSA WILLIAMS in the iconic role of Miranda Priestly, this new musical based on the blockbuster film and bestselling novel is “a devil of a good time” (Daily Express). Strutting alongside Vanessa are GEORGIE BUCKLAND in an “eye-catching West End debut” (The i) as Andy, and AMY DI BARTOLOMEO as a “comic delight” (Metro) in the role of Emily, while Olivier Award-winner MATT HENRY gives an “endearing and soulful” (Time Out) performance as Nigel. Fresh out of college, aspiring journalist Andy scores a job at the prestigious Runway magazine working for fashion’s most powerful and terrifying icon — editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly. Sacrificing her personal life to meet Miranda’s impossible demands, Andy finds herself seduced by the glamorous world she once despised. How far will she go to succeed... and will it be worth selling her soul to get what she’s always wanted. STARLIGHT EXPRESS is a high-speed theatrical thrill ride
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s STARLIGHT EXPRESS was the first musical I saw back in the 90’s. It has now returned to London and is sleeker, shinier, and faster than ever. This turbocharged update of the beloved roller-skating musical proves that even after decades, there’s still a ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ for this high-octane show.

The new staging brings the story into the 21st century, with cutting-edge projections and a track that weaves through the theatre, making the races feel just as thrilling as before.
Updated song lyrics give classics like ‘AC/DC’ and ‘Make Up My Heart’ a modern take, while the choreography remains as jaw-dropping as ever. The cast races across the stage with breathtaking speed.
STARLIGHT EXPRESS has always been a spectacle, and this revival leans into that full throttle. From the moment you walk into the Troubadour, you are transported into Control’s dream fantasy racetrack. Wherever you sit in this venue, you will have a great view.
If you’re ready to ‘ride, ride, ride, ride on’, then hop aboard—this is one journey you won’t want to miss!
The record-breaking sensation by singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell and director Rachel Chavkin is now playing to critical acclaim at the Lyric Theatre, London.
‘Big, beautiful and emotionally blasting’ (The Guardian), HADESTOWN is the winner of 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album. Seen by three million, streamed by over 350 million and adored by fans around the world, this sensational musical is ‘the most exhilarating ride’ (WhatsOnStage).
HADESTOWN takes you on an unforgettable journey to the underworld and back, intertwining two mythic love stories – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone. A deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience, HADESTOWN invites you to imagine how the world could be.
HADESTOWN at the Lyric Theatre is booking through to 15th February 2026

Following a sell-out run at the Royal Court, the play everyone is talking about, GIANT, is transferring to the West End’s Harold Pinter Theatre.
“I wanted to put you bang in the picture. Apprise you of the difficulties. Because, in case you hadn’t noticed, he’s a human f*cking boobytrap. And now, guess what, surprise surprise, boom!”
A world-famous children’s author under threat. A battle of wills in the wake of scandal. And one chance to make amends…
It’s the summer of 1983, The Witches is about to hit the shelves and Roald Dahl is making last-minute edits. But the outcry at his recent, explicitly antisemitic article won’t die down.
Across a single afternoon at his family home, and rocked by an unexpectedly explosive confrontation, Dahl is forced to choose: make a public apology or risk his name and reputation.
Inspired by real events, Mark Rosenblatt’s debut play explores with dark humour the difference between considered opinion and dangerous rhetoric.
Directed by Nicholas Hytner (Straight Line Crazy, La Belle Sauvage). Tony and Golden Globe-winner John Lithgow (Killers of the Flower Moon, The Crown) will reprise his extraordinary performance as Roald Dahl with Olivier Award-winner Elliot Levey (Cold War, Patriots, Good) returning as Tom Maschler, Rachael Stirling (The Divine Mrs S) as Felicity Crosland and Richard Hope (Hijack) as Wally Saunders. Further casting to be announced.

With a sensational score, including ‘Food Glorious Food’, ‘Consider Yourself’, ‘You’ve Got to Pick-a-Pocket or Two’, ‘I’d Do Anything’, ‘Oom Pah Pah’, ‘As Long As He Needs Me’ and many more, the Olivier, Tony and Oscar-winning masterpiece vividly brings to life Charles Dickens’ ever popular story of the boy who asked for more.

U3A group leaders enjoy our first ever non-musical theatre event!
At the beginning of February we were delighted to welcome 30 U3A theatre group leaders from across London & the South East to see KYOTO at @sohoplace for our latest U3A group leaders preview afternoon. We were also delighted to be joined by Hattie Beck, communications officer from U3A Head Office.
This was our first ever U3A preview afternoon for U3A leaders looking to include plays & non-musical productions in their programmes.
The afternoon started with pre-show refreshments together in the wonderful front of house café/bar area at @sohoplace - with lots of time to network and hear an introduction to the wonderful new venue by the theatre manager.
U3A members watched the matinee performance of KYOTO – an outstanding & memorable play in a fantastic new venue.
