Edinburgh turns Technicolor this Christmas.

Welcome to the EDINBURGH PLAYHOUSE

It is my pleasure to welcome you to our latest season brochure on the back of a fantastic run of shows this year. Our theatre has been bursting at the seams with new collaborations, initiatives and offerings in recent months.

Our neighbouring café and bar, Little Picardy, now serves delicious food daily, making this the perfect spot for preshow small plates, catch-ups over brunch and post-work bites. Little Picardy has allowed us to be an even bigger part of your trip to the theatre and we encourage you to book early if you haven’t yet sampled its delights!

In October, we ran our second instalment of our Work in Theatre week, inviting young people from across Scotland to experience what life is like working in an array of theatre roles through Q&As, practical workshops, and of course, the opportunity to see live theatre.

Last but by no means least, we have launched partnerships with two very important charities –Macmillan and Care For Carers. Throughout the year you will see us supporting these charities by collecting donations and taking part in fundraising challenges. We are very proud to contribute to the wonderful work they are doing in our local community and beyond.

In 2025 lies a programme of shows that will bring the very best of feel-good entertainment including NOW That’s What I Call A Musical, the return of SIX and MAMMA MIA! – but before then, we round off 2024 with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

The Rocky Horror Show

Australian superstar Jason Donovan comes to Edinburgh in Richard O’Brien’s legendary rock ‘n’ roll musical The Rocky Horror Show, as part of a new world tour.

The legendary performer Jason Donovan reprises his iconic role as the captivating Frank-N-Furter across the UK, following a sold-out Australian tour in 2024.

Having been seen by over 35 million theatregoers, The Rocky Horror Show is the story of two squeaky-clean college kids – Brad and his fiancée Janet. When, by a twist of fate, their car breaks down outside a creepy mansion whilst on their way to visit their former college professor, they meet the charismatic Dr Frank-N-Furter. Kinky Boots The Musical

The Broadway and West End phenomenon, Kinky Boots The Musical, is back in a brand new production with an incredible star cast!

Strictly Come Dancing’s Johannes Radebe, Dan Partridge (Grease), Courtney Bowman (SIX), Scott Paige (The Addams Family) and Newtion Matthews (Get Up Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical) star in this joy-filled sensation. Based on a true story and hit movie, it features music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper, a hilarious book by Harvey Fierstein and is directed by Nikolai Foster (Grease and The Wizard of Oz)

After inheriting his family’s failing shoe factory and with a relationship on the rocks, life is proving to be very challenging for Charlie Price. That is until he meets drag queen Lola! Ages 8+

Kyiv. La Bohème is one of the most romantic operas ever written. It tells the tragic tale of the doomed, consumptive Mimi and her love for a penniless writer. The set reflects the bohemian art of the period and will include snow effects and Muzetta’s dog will also make an entrance. This classic tale of Parisian love and loss features many famous arias including Your Tiny Hand is Frozen, They Call Me Mimi and Muzetta’s Waltz

Backstage Tours

Take a bow on a stage where the world’s greatest artists have performed and hear about the vast artistic history of the Edinburgh Playhouse. The tours will last approx. 60 – 90 minutes. Under 18s must be supervised by an adult at all times. The tour will focus on the history of the Playhouse and you will get the chance to see behind the scenes of a show in our venue:

Schools Sing in the Playhouse Choir

Are you a keen singer and want to join a community choir of like-minded people?

Then why not join us to sing some joyful tunes including songs from our shows. The choir is in partnership with Sing in the City, an Edinburgh institution with over 14 choirs across the Lothians and Fife with hundreds of fantastic members. No experience necessary, open to anyone aged 18+ and sessions will run on Tuesdays 2 – 4pm. Get in touch if you would like to book a free trial session.

Musical Makers

Do you want the chance to dance and sing? Then come along to our musical theatre class. We have a two-hour class on our stage for adults, with an hour of dance and an hour of voice with the chance to combine your learning. We also have a full day session for teens during the February break. Come along and get the chance to showcase your talent to your favourite hit musicals like Moulin Rouge!

Miss Saigon

Michael Harrison in association with Cameron Mackintosh presents a new production of Miss Saigon, as Boublil and Schönberg’s legendary musical is reborn.

Embarking on a major UK tour, Miss Saigon arrives at Edinburgh Playhouse in October. The soaring score features original hit songs including The Heat is On in Saigon, The Movie in My Mind, Last Night of the World and The American Dream

In the last days of the Vietnam War, 17-year-old Kim is forced to work in a Saigon bar run by a notorious character known as The Engineer. There she meets and falls in love with an American GI named Chris but they are torn apart by the fall of Saigon. For three years, Kim goes on an epic journey of survival to find her way back to Chris, who has no idea he’s fathered a son.

TINA – The Tina Turner Musical

West End mega-hit TINA – The Tina Turner Musical is rollin’ into Edinburgh on its first ever UK & Ireland tour.

From humble beginnings in Nutbush, Tennessee, to her triumphant transformation into a multi award-winning global superstar, Tina Turner didn’t just break the rules, she rewrote them, winning 12 Grammy Awards.

Experience her inspiring story live on-stage, set to the pulsepounding soundtrack of her iconic hits including The Best, What’s Love Got To Do With It?, Private Dancer and River Deep, Mountain High.

Written by Olivier Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Katori Hall (The Mountaintop) and directed by the internationally-acclaimed Phyllida Lloyd (MAMMA MIA!), this five-star show is ‘Simply the best’ (Daily Mail).

Based on the popularity of a performance and ticket availability, prices can change at any point during the show’s on-sale period. Due to the varying nature of our shows and their set design, we cannot guarantee an unrestricted view from all seats at all times. For the most up-to-date information please check online. ATG+ Membership, group ticket prices and any special offers are subject to availability and can change or be withdrawn at any time. Family tickets are for 4 people with a maximum of 2 adults. Children

No children under 3 will be admitted to the venue except where it is specifically stated at the time of booking that the event is suitable for under 3s. Babes in arms (children under 18 months unless otherwise stated at the time of booking and on the ticket) will only be admitted to performances that are specifically aimed for them (pantomimes and shows permitting under 3s only). Where babes in arms are permitted they shall be admitted free of charge. If any other age restrictions apply for a particular performance this will be stated on the relevant production page of our website. Children (ages 18 months to 15 years inclusive) shall require their own ticket which shall be at full ticket price if no child concessions are available at the time of booking. Children (ages 15 years and under) must be supervised at all times. Supervision of children shall be by not less than 1 adult (aged 18 years or over) per 10 children and the supervising adult must sit next to the child/ren. The Management reserves the right to ask parents / supervisors to remove children if, in the opinion of the Management, they are causing a disturbance. Please note that some productions can be loud, if a member of your party is sensitive to this, we would recommend bringing their preferred noise protection.
