Birmingham – What's On guide – From August 2024

From August 2024

The Steps musical HERE & NOW has its world premiere in Birmingham this November!

Welcome to TH E ALEXAN D RA

It’s hard to believe we are already into the second half of 2024. What an incredible year of productions and events we have had so far, with much more still to come!

In May we flung open our doors for a free Open Day, welcoming visitors to explore behind the scenes of our beautiful venue. It was wonderful to see so many families enjoying all that we have on offer, from craft activities, face painting, backstage tours and a chance to test out their skills on the fly floor, sound and lighting desks. We even had a special visit from Peppa Pig’s Miss Rabbit, who added Box Office Assistant to her ever-expanding list of jobs!

We are delighted to have cast our Stage Experience production The Sound of Music which will take to the stage this August. Over the early May bank holiday, 161 talented young performers aged 9 – 24 entered our building to audition for the show. With only 80 spaces available, our creative team certainly had their work cut out casting for the show.

The arrival of the brand new musical, HERE & NOW – The Steps Musical, based on the music of Steps, is fast approaching. Due to phenomenal demand, an additional week of performances has been added to the end of the run and we can’t wait to be rompin’ stompin’, pumpin’ jumpin’, slidin’ glidin’ into this next season.

Thank you, as ever, for your continued support of The Alex. We hope to see you very soon.

We’ve got the ticket for you!

Here You Come Again

Prior to the West End.

For the first time ever, all of Dolly Parton’s biggest hits can be experienced together in a rollicking and joyous new musical comedy.

Packed with the iconic songs Jolene, 9 to 5, Islands in the Stream, I Will Always Love You, Here You Come Again and more, this lively and touching new musical tells the story of a diehard fan whose fantasy version of international icon Dolly Parton gets him through trying times. With her wit, humour and charm, Dolly teaches him a whole lot about life, love and how to pull yourself up by your bootstraps… even if your bootstraps don’t have rhinestones!

Here You Come Again was originally written by two-time Emmy Award-winning comedy and song writer Bruce Vilanch with Gabriel Barre (who also directs) and Tricia Paoluccio (who also plays Dolly) and has now been adapted for the UK by acclaimed British playwright Jonathan Harvey (Gimme, Gimme, Gimme and Coronation Street)
