The Ohio Designer Craftsmen’s 27th annual juried members’ competition features established and emerging ODC artists working in all craft media.

As a significant exhibition of fine craft, “The Best of 2010” showcases functional, sculptural or decorative, contemporary approaches to works in clay, fiber, wood, glass, enamel, leather, metal, jewelry or other media. In the words of 2009 Juror, Wendy H. Outland, “Each year within this group of selected works, some artists are chosen for their dedication to timehonored traditions, others for bucking all constraints and offering something new and refreshing”.

Marnia Terauds Ex Libras

Arturo Rodriquez’s paintings, prints and mixed media works combine images from paintings that one might find on the walls of an average American home and images from some of his earliest visual memories as a young Cuban immigrant to the United States in the 1980s cartoons. By uniting these seemingly disparate images Rodriguez’s work constitutes an accurate metaphor for Cuban aesthetics and culture, which have historically undergone a process of appropriation.
