Letter From The Editor

Welcome to the Winter Issue of The English Language Class Magazine! A Spring Issue is on the way!! This is their final English Class project for Junior High School (Gymnasium), since they will be going onto a new school –as Senior High School students- in September. We decided to create the issues in a simple design- nothing professional about their creation- just each student’s own touch and character. Forgive us if there are any grammatical, syntactical or orthographical errors. As Editor, I decided not to tamper and interfere with my students’/writers’ work unless it was necessary. Lots of encouragement and support went into each topic when students didn’t know what to do. There was also some aid in finding a topic for some students or downloading pictures for their work. We even assisted those students who didn’t have a printer at home by printing out their work at school. I personally want to thank those colleagues and students who got involved in the process in any way. I have also added some parts in the magazine, my own ideas, to fill in the gaps! Hope you enjoy each page!!

What we need: 300 g. pasta for lasagne 750 g. minced veal 5 eggs (2 whole and 3 yolks) 100 g. slice 100 g. grated gruyere 1 liter of milk 100 g. butter 100 g. flour 2 onions, finely chopped 2 dust. garlic chopped 1 cube beef broth 1 tin chopped tomatoes 2 tbsp tomato paste 1 tbsp sugar salt pepper 1 glass wine red wine nutmeg herbs (thyme or oregano or laurel) parsley

How we do it: Bechamel sauce: Heat the butter with the flour and stir until well roasted a little flour. Add a little bit of milk and stir with a whisk to avoid clotting. When it starts to blend even more careful not to grab the bottom and black. Besides fire add the 3 egg yolks. Finally add salt, pepper, nutmeg and cheese except 2k.s. that the end use of the formulation. Macaroni: Boil the pasta for 1-2 minutes less than the manufacturer's instructions. Since you are cooking food in the oven will cook spaghetti and other so it is to "hold". Minced: Saute onions in a little olive oil. After 3-4 minutes, add the garlic and continue to saute over medium heat. Then add the tomato paste and sautĂŠ it and him, then put the cube and minced meat. SautĂŠ until golden brown the minced meat. Add the wine and let it evaporate. Add the chopped tomatoes, sugar, salt and pepper and herbs. Cook over low heat until all drink fluids. In minced add 1/4 to 1/3 of the sauce and mix well. At the bottom of the pan put the pasta and poured a little with your hand. The pasta as the pan, add the 2 eggs broken, feta broken into pieces (mix a little to go everywhere) pepper and salt if needed. On top lay the ground meat and top with the remaining sauce. Finally add the cheese kept on the surface of pastitsio and if we add some small pieces of butter. Bake in preheated oven at 180-200 for 40 minutes or until you get good color.

Chocolate Soufflé By Stella Barbari C’ 3 Method Place the chocolate and butter together in a bain marie, over a barely simmering heat and stir occasionally until they melt. Set aside to cool for a while. Whisk the eggs and the sugar together in a large bowl until they rise. Add the cool, melted chocolate, a little at a time, constantly stirring. Sieve the flour and salt together into the mixture and fold it gently. Grease with butter and dust-flour very well 12 ramekins. Shake to remove the excess flour. Divide the mixture equally into the ramekins. Bake at 200ºC for 9-10 minutes. Remove from the ramekins and serve instantly with crème fraîche or ice cream. Portions 12 Preparation Time 10 minutes Baking time 10 minutes

INGREDIENTS 125g/4oz Odlums Self Raising Flour 125g/4oz Butter or Margarine (room temperature) 125g/4oz Caster Sugar 2 Eggs Few Drops Vanilla Essence

To Decorate: For Buttercream 125g/4oz Butter (room temperature) 225g/8oz Icing sugar (sieved) Few Drops Vanilla Essence Selection of food colouring Sweets to decorate (optional)

METHOD

1. Preheat oven to 180⁰ C/350⁰ F/Gas4. 2. Line cupcake tin with baking cases. 3. Beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Gradually beat in the eggs and the vanilla essence. If mixture starts to curdle, add a little of the flour. 4. Gently stir in remaining flour with a spoon. 5. Place spoonfuls of the mixture into the baking cases and bake for 15-20 minutes until firm to the touch. 6. Remove from the oven and leave on a wire tray to cool. 7. Make buttercream by beating the butter, icing sugar and vanilla essence together until smooth and creamy. 8. Divide the icing into separate bowls for each colour you want to use, gradually add the colouring, mixing well until required colour is achieved. 9. Pipe or “swirl” icing onto each cupcake. Top with sweet if liked!

Mosaic By Dimitra Fragouli Câ€™5 Ingredients :

250 gr butter or margarine 8 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa 1 sweetened milk carton 1,5 package petit biscuit 1/4 cup coniac 1 cup chopped nuts

Execution : 1. Melt butter - or the margarine - in a wide saucepan, over low heat .Add cocoa and stir with a spoon to combine. Pour the condensed milk and mix well, being careful not to boil the mixture, but just warm to dissolve materials. 2.Withdraw the pan from the heat and add the brandy.Break manually cookies, but without a powder, and integrates them with the mixture. Mix in nuts and mix well to cover the chocolate mixture. Let cool. 10

3. Spread 2 pieces of greaseproof paper on the bench. Divide the mixture with a spoon along the greaseproof paper and roll into the side closing role as karamelocharta. Wrap rolls tightly in foil to keep the shape and chill for 1 hour in the refrigerator. Cut the mosaic into slices and serve with ice cream of your choice.

KATAIFI By Stella Barbari C’3

Golden, crispy and amazingly moist! Kataifi is a delicious dessert which like baklava is very popular among Greek, Turkish and Middle Eastern nations. An amazing dessert made with roughly chopped walnuts (and sometimes other nuts), scented with ground clove and cinnamon, wrapped into buttered cripsy kataifi dough and bathed in lemon scented syrup...Simply amazing! This is a very easy to follow Kataifi recipe for you to recreate this traditional sweet delight from scratch. (See also the preparation shots below.) The key for the most flavourful homemade Kataifi is to use good quality fresh butter for buttering. The authentic Greek Kataifi recipe calls for ‘galaktos’ butter made from cow’s milk, which really gives a unique flavour and amazing smell! Crispy Kataifi and right syrup-ing go together! To accomplish this make sure that the syrup is cold and your Kataifi is really hot. Always ladle really slowly the hot syrup over the cold Kataifi, enabling each ladle to be absorbed, so that the syrup is absorbed evenly. Even though it will be really hard… you should wait for the Kataifi to cool down for a while before serving. It is very important to defrost overnight the kataifi dough from the freezer. To do that, the key is to leave defrost in the fridge and not at room temperature, in order to prevent it from getting soaked with water. If the kataifi dough gets soaked with water, it will be difficult to work with and will be less crispy, when baked. When it comes to buttering, don’t be thrifty! Drizzle with enough butter to help the kataifi dough bake and get a golden brown colour; plus extra flavour! Kataifi dough is actually shredded phyllo dough and dries out very quickly, so it’s best to keep exposure to air at a minimum. Uncover the plastic wrap, when you are ready to use it and when done preparing this kataifi recipe, put it straight into the oven. Work the dough gently with your hands on a large surface or over the sink, so that you don’t end up with a kitchen filled with scattered shredded dough! Cover the kataifi dough with a damp towel and keep it covered, while you prepare the kataifi rolls. So go ahead, give this traditional Kataifi recipe a try and amaze your friends and family!

Ingredients 

450g kataifi dough (16 oz.)

250-300g walnuts, roughly chopped (9 oz.)

Facebook Nowadays By Christina Panoriou C’4 I wonder, have you ever wondered your life without Facebook? An experiment with name «99 Days of Freedom» launched by the Netherlands and aims to persuade users not to use the most popular social network for 99 days in order to study whether users are happier without Facebook. With an average of 17 minutes a day, it is estimated that users will save 1683 minutes of free time, or else 28 hours after looking at what will publish their (internet)friends. Users who want to take part in the experiment, can follow the 2 simple steps. First, change the image profile, then do not use Facebook for the next 99 days.

FRIENDSHIP By Konstantina Zoumi Câ€™1 To have friends is vet important in our days for many reasons. Analyzed reasons about the importance of friendship have been thought by a lot of people.

Firstly, some friends can encourage reckless behavior and friendship reduces the risk of people suffering from loneliness. Moreover, friends accept you the way you are or can give us the courage to pursue our goals. In addiction close friends help us to open up and share our problems.

On other hand, friendship and adversely affects a person such as the friendship that can exist in a child and a group to smoked surely the child smoking can lead to problems in his health.

I believe that friendship is very important and it should always be supported.

RUDY GAY BY KONSTANTINOS AKALESTOS Câ€™1

Rudy Carlton Gay, Jr. (born August 17, 1986) is an American professional basketball player who plays for the Sacramento Kings of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Standing at 6 ft 8 in (2.03 m), he plays at the small forward position. He played college basketball at the University of Connecticut.

NBA draft Gay, widely regarded as one of the top future NBA prospects, announced on April 17 that he would enter the 2006 NBA Draft. He was selected with the 8th overall pick in the draft by the Houston Rockets, who then traded him and Stromile Swift to Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for shane battier.

Memphis Grizzlies On July 12, 2006, Gay signed a multi-year contract with the Memphis Grizzlies who acquired his draft rights from the Houston Rockets. Gay averaged 10.8 points per game to help the Grizzlies win 22 games in 2007. After earning Rookie of the Month honours in November 2006, he was named to the NBA’s All-Rookie First Team for the 2006–07 season and finished third in NBA Rookie of the Year voting behind Toronto’s Andrea Bargnani and Portland’s Brandon Roy, who won the award.

Toronto Raptors On January 30, 2013, the Grizzlies traded Gay to the Toronto Raptors in a three-way deal which included the Detroit Pistons. Gay set a franchise record by scoring 74 points in his first three games with the Raptors. The Toronto Raptors finished 34-48 and missed the playoffs.

Sacramento Kings On December 9, 2013, the Raptors traded Gay, along with Quincy Acy and Aaron Gray to the Sacramento Kings, in return for Greivis Vásquez, John Salmons,Chuck Hayes and Patrick Patterson. On June 22, 2014, Gay exercised his $19.3 million contract option for the 2014–15 season. On October 31, 2014, Gay scored 40 points in the Kings' 103-94 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. On November 19, 2014, he signed a three-year, $40 million contract extension with the Kings.

Sergio Leonel "Kun" Agüero Del Castillo By Andreas Mytilinaios & Mikeliano Miti C’ 3

Born 2 June 1988) known professionally as Sergio Agüero is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a striker for Premier League club Manchester City and the Argentina national team. On 5 July 2003, he became the youngest player to debut in the Argentine Primera División at 15 years and 35 days, breaking the record previously established by Diego Maradona in 1976.He plays with the shirt name Kun Agüero. At international level, Agüero represented the Argentina under-20 team at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2005 and in 2007, winning both tournaments. Agüero played at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, he scored two goals in the 3–0 semi-final win against Brazil as Argentina went on to win the gold medal. Agüero was selected to represent Argentina in the 2010 FIFA World Cup,2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2011 Copa América.

In 2006, Agüero moved to Europe to play for La Liga side Atlético Madrid for a fee of €23 million from Independiente. He made a name for himself, attracting attention from Europe's top clubs by scoring 101 goals in 234 appearances while winning the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Super Cup in 2010. Agüero moved to Premier League club Manchester City in July 2011 for an undisclosed fee thought to be in the region of £35 million. On the last day of his debut season with the club, Agüero scored a 94th-minute winner against Queen's Park Rangers that earned Manchester City its first league title in 44 years. In 2012, he won Manchester City's player of the year as voted for by the fans. As of the end of the 2013–14 season, Agüero has the highest goals per minute ratio in the history of the Premier League averaging a goal every 115 minutes. 20

The Coco Chanel was one of what famous fashion designers of the 20th century. In 1909 she opened her first store in Paris, with female hats. She founded namesake fashion house that remains in the news today. In 1923 she created the perfume "Chanel â„– 5" and invented the little black dress. 21

Who is KSI? By John Daniilidis Câ€™1

Ksi is a comedian/gamer who has won the prize from the World Guiness Records as the funniest guy of the wear 2013. He has been nominated for 2014 also. Ksi was born in England but his parents are from Nigeria (age 22). His full (youtube) name is Ksiolajidebt. Well KSI was a halo clan he used to be in, Olajide is his name, and BT stands for British Telecom. He started making videos back in 2006 actually. Back then the PC was cool (Here comes the PC elites), but he began to lose interest after a while, especially since the PC version wasn't getting anywhere (He also got his account banned after uploading family guy on youtube). It was only in 2010 when he started making videos again. He loved FIFA, and he loved doing skills and he always felt that there was some goals and tricks that he was doing (while he wasn't recording), which he thought was cool enough to show people on the Internet. Without a doubt though, two guys really inspired him, Hjerpseth and Wepeeler. So he decided to buy a Hauppage and started recording again. And that was that for his skilling days

Near the middle of FIFA 11, he delved into commentating. Mind you this wasn't the first commentary he did. He had a video on Machinima Sports which he would much rather forget. Nevertheless, my break through with commentary came from him complaining about how retarded defenders were in FIFA 11 and him obliterating the FIFA 12 trailer to shreds with his sarcasm hehe. And from then on, he worked hard, making videos to entertain and building quite a large audience who like his content! Now Ksi has one of the most famous channels all over youtube which has over 8,5 billion subscribers and one of them is me. I have been his subscriber since 2011 when I found him on youtube. He is my favourite guy and Iâ€™m watching every video he posts.

ENVIRONMENT -RECYCLING BY ILIAS PANTELEOS Câ€™ 4

Do you know what occurs to me in all of this? Recycling isn't about saving the planet. If it were about saving the planet, people wouldn't buy these products in the first place. Recycling is a system for eliminating consumer guilt. It is designed to give everyday consumers a token measure that they can feel good about. Recycling lets them believe that they are saving the planet while they are flushing all these chemicals down the drain and spreading them on their lawns and gardens. They are putting toxic products in their cars, on their hair and into their mouths and bodies. Recycling is then presented as a solution to make these people feel good even as they are destroying the environment with every single product they consume. 29

Looking for Alaska is a young adult novel by John Green, published in March 2005.

Miles Halter leaves his home in Florida to attend Culver Creek Preparatory High School in Alabama for his junior year. He uses Francois Rabelais ’s last words—"I go to seek a Great Perhaps"—as his argument for choosing boarding school at such a late age. Miles is fond of reading biographies, and particularly of memorizing the last words of famous people. Soon after arriving at Culver Creek, Miles meets his roommate, Chip "The Colonel" Martin. The Colonel nicknames Miles "Pudge", due to Mile's slender physical appearance and introduces Pudge to his friends Takumi and Alaska Young, a beautiful but emotionally unstable girl. After hearing Pudge's zobsessions with famous last words, Alaska informs him of Simon Bolivar's final words: "Damn it. How will I ever get out of this labyrinth!" Miles asks her what the labyrinth is and the two make a deal: if Pudge figures out what the labryinth is, Alaska will arrange sex for him. I would definitely recommend it!

Giraffes By Kyriaki Chanioti Câ€™5 A giraffe is an even-toed ungulate mammal from Africa. It is the tallest animal that lives on land.

Appearance Giraffes can be 4.8 to 5.5 metres (16 to 18 ft) tall and weigh up to 900 kilograms (2000 pounds). Giraffes have a very longneck and legs. Their fur has a light yellowish or brownish colour with dark patches. Both male and female giraffes have small horn-like stumps on their head, which are covered with skin. They have a long black tongue, which can be up to 45 cm long. Giraffes are the tallest land animals on earth thanks in part to their distinctive necks which alone can reach almost 2meters in height.

Habitat Giraffes are found in parts of Africa. They live on the savannah, which is the African grassland, or in light woodland. They do not live in thick forests where it is difficult to see predators, such as lions, approaching. 31

Life Giraffes eat mostly leaves from tall trees, which they can reach because of their long legs and long necks, as well as small insects and fruit. They can go without water for weeks. Giraffes live alone or in loose groups. Young male giraffes form small groups until they become mature. Adult males live alone. Females form groups of 4â€“32 animals. When the female is close to giving birth, it leaves the group for a time to give birth to its offspring, and comes back 2-3 weeks after her baby is born. After a pregnancy of 14-15 months, the female gives birth to usually a single baby (which is called "calf"). Giraffes give birth while standing, so the baby falls down 2 metres. Giraffe calfs are already 1.8 m tall and weigh 50 kg. The calf stays with its mother for 1Â˝ years. Young giraffes become mature when they are 4 years old, and they are fully grown when they are 6 years old. Giraffes can become 25 years old, in captivity they can become 35 years old.

WATCH DOGS By Elias Samaltanis Câ€™4 Watch Dogs (stylized as WATCH_DOGS) is an open world action-adventure video game developed by Unisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. It was released worldwide on 27 may 2014 for Microsoft Windows, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, while a Wii U version was released on 18 November 2014 in North America, 21 November in Europe, and 4 December in Japan. Set within a fictionalized version of Chicago, Illinois, the single-player story follows a hacker and his efforts to seek revenge after the accidental death of his niece. The open world design lets players freely roam Chicago, which includes the urban city, open countryside, and slums.

The game is played from a third-person perspective and its world is navigated on-foot or by vehicle. Players control Aiden Pearce, a highly skilled grey hat hacker who can hack into the "ctOS", a centralized operating system which manages the hyper-connected city of Chicago, and formed after a Northeast blackout of 2003 was caused by a hacker. A online multiplayer mode is also provided in the game, allowing up to eight players to engage in both cooperative and competitive gameplay in a recreation of the single-player setting.

Development on the game began in 2009. As part of their research for the open world, the developers conducted field research around Chicago throughout development and captured footage for the design team. Development duties were shared between many of Ubisoft's studios worldwide.

Following its announcement in June 2012, Watch Dogs was widely anticipated. At release, it received generally positive feedback, with praise particularly directed at the game's hacking elements and mission variety. The game also received criticism concerning the gameplay and some technical issues. Watch Dogs was a commercial success, breaking the record for the biggest first day sales of a Ubisoft game, and becoming the biggest launch of a new IP ever in the United Kingdom at the time. Within a week, the game sold over 4 million copies.
