M - May we continue to Go Greater by Outworking Yesterday

A - Always Practice Random Act of Kindness

Y - Yield to the Greater Good.

Sorors, this month I have decided to recognize in a significant way two members who have gone beyond to build Gamma Theta Omega’s brand in a positive way in our community. These Sorors have led at a Super Bowl level, and they are: Soror Gwen and Soror Jada!

They are the first recipients of the Gamma Theta Omega Super Bowl-style Champion Ring. Because of their efforts, Gamma Theta Omega is recognized at another level for the great service we provide to all mankind in Tampa. Thank you, Sorors Gwen and Jada!

A Soror Jada Wright-Greene earned a ring by securing a notable partnership with the USF Historical Society, allowing us to capture the Omega Chapter’s 115th Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® rare exhibit display in an online platform housed by USF, which will live in perpetuity.

Soror Gwendolyn “Gwen” Myers earned a ring by being instrumental in helping the Chapter secure grant dollars to fund significant programs directly impacting and benefiting the Tampa Bay Community.

Thank you to both Sorors—you two are certainly outworking yesterday. Let us all continue to help the Chapter Go Greater! Serving to make a difference,

Soror Tangela

Empowering Our Community: Mental Health Awareness Month

As members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, we stand committed to fostering a community that thrives on empowerment, support, and holistic well-being. In today's fast-paced world, mental health awareness is more crucial than ever. Our sorority is dedicated to not only raising awareness but also taking concrete steps to engage our community, stop the stigma surrounding mental health, and encourage seeking help when needed.

Community Engagement

Our commitment to community engagement is unwavering. Through various initiatives, we aim to bring mental health resources and education to the forefront. This includes hosting our Mental Health Symposium. This event provided valuable information about mental health conditions, coping strategies, and local resources available for support. By engaging with our community, we are aiming to create an environment where mental health is openly discussed and prioritized.

The Mental Health Symposium also offered a safe space for individuals to ask questions, share their experiences, and learn from experts in the field. Additionally, we collaborated with organizations to extend our reach, ensuring that mental health education is accessible to everyone, regardless of age or background.

Stopping the Stigma

Despite some progress, mental health stigma remains a significant barrier to seeking help. Gamma Theta Omega is dedicated to dismantling this stigma through education and advocacy. We hope to normalize conversations about mental health. Our goal is to shift the perception from one of judgment to one of understanding and support. By fostering a culture of empathy and acceptance, we can create a community where everyone feels comfortable seeking the help they need.

Let us continue to lead with compassion, educate with purpose, and support one another in our journey toward mental well-being. Together, we can make a difference.
