Dear Sorors:
Welcome to the 2022 Cluster Season! Implementation of the International Programs will be the focus of this Cluster Season. Sorors will have an opportunity to gain valuable knowledge, information, and best practices to ensure the successful implementation of the International Program “Soaring to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood.” I know that under the leadership of the Great Lakes Regional Director, Soror Gwendolyn Kirtley sorors will implement the programs with fidelity and Sisterly Service.
We are excited that sorors will have an opportunity to meet in person and reacquaint themselves with sorors we have missed over the last three years during Cluster Season due to Covid. We know that as a Sisterhood we are “Greater Together!”
The Cluster meeting will provide an opportunity for chapters to highlight the accomplishments of their chapter and the sorors in their chapters. We will start the Cluster Meetings in Utica, NY, continue to Pittsburgh, PA, then on to Novi, Michigan, back over to Beckley, West Virginia, and our final Cluster meeting in Cincinnati, Ohio.
We are excited that you are planning to join us in this in-person Cluster Season. I want to personally thank Sorors Tanya L. Davis, Alexandria T. Brown, Staci Freeman Smith, Jasmine Fox, Vanessa Coakley, Makayla Sumrall, Antionette Brooks, Arianna Spaulding, Shannon Teague, and Mackenzie Fields. These Graduate and Undergraduate Cluster Coordinators have worked to ensure that each of you have an informative and actively engaging Cluster meeting.
In addition, I extend a heartfelt thank you and appreciation to our host chapters and the leadership of the host chapters. Special thank you to Cheryl Minor, Basileus and Olivia Paul, Chairman and all the members of Nu Psi Omega Chapter for their work on the Western NY Cluster. Soror Emma Lucas-Darby, Basileus, Rhonda Taliaferro, Chairman, and the members of Alpha Alpha Omega Chapter for their work on the Northern Ohio/Western, PA Cluster. To my Oh So Pretty Sorors,
Welcome to the 2022 GREAT Great Lakes Region Cluster Conference! I am beyond blessed to hold the position of Undergraduate Great Lakes Cluster Coordinator. As my last semester begins, I am ecstatic to spend it traveling to meet my fellow sorors across the region and make meaningful connections.
I would like to thank Madam Regional Director Gwendolyn Kirtley and her team, Graduate Great Lakes Cluster Coordinator Geraldine Horton, and all my Graduate and Undergraduate Cluster Coordinators who have worked tirelessly to make this Cluster one of a kind. I would also like to thank my graduate advisors, Soror Tamra Billinghurst-Black and LaToya Smith and my Omega sorors for supporting me while taking on this new position.
As we start today’s programs, I hope that you’re able to grasp new concepts and develop new ideas to integrate into your remarkable chapters. As you soak in all this information today, don't forget to get a few laughs in and say hello to those sorors you haven't seen in a while but also make new connections, and exchange numbers because at the end of the day we are extremely blessed to be able to gather together as one to serve the greatest sorority.

Greetings Sorors,
Welcome to the 2022 Northern Ohio/Western Pennsylvania Cluster in Pittsburgh, PA! After going through a global pandemic, it’s great to be back together AGAIN in person as we’re “Soaring to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood.”
And, your presence today Sorors demonstrate your unwavering commitment to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, the Great Lakes Region, and our Cluster Conference; because, you know, we are “Greater Together in Service and Sisterhood” when we come together on ONE accord.
It has been my sincere pleasure to Serve with our Sister Sorors of Alpha Alpha Omega Chapter, a Chapter with the dynamic leadership of Soror Rhonda Taliaferro, Cluster Chairman, Soror Alexis Clipper and Soror Ruthie Rea, Cluster Co-Chairmen and Soror Emma Lucas-Darby, Basileus. During the planning process of our Cluster Conference, their leadership has been phenomenal: “Together, we Created an Organized Plan; Together, we Thoughtfully, Planned, our Move; and Today, Together, we will Move our Plan.” Moving from the starting line, we implemented the process, worked together in service and sisterhood for our desired outcomes to the finish line within our cluster, various chapters, and our wider communities. The sisterliness demonstrated by the sorors of Alpha Alpha Omega and their leadership team make us keenly aware that we are indeed “Greater Together” .
This Northern Ohio/Western Pennsylvania Cluster Book contains the Cluster Reports of the committed dedication and leadership of each Chapter in their diverse Communities. It is my honor and privilege to “Serve with my Sister-Sorors” of the Northern Ohio/Western Pennsylvania Cluster. Our collective efforts showcase why we’re known as being “Supreme in Service.”
Thank you, Madam Regional Director Kirtley for your confidence in my ability to serve as Graduate Cluster Coordinator for the Northern Ohio/Western Pennsylvania Cluster. We are confident that we’re “Greater Together; and, ready to Soar to Higher Heights.”

Greetings Sorors,
It is my pleasure to write this letter. Alpha Alpha Omega Chapter has been looking forward to this Northern Ohio Western PA Cluster in our favorite Steel City of Pittsburgh, PA, for many months. We are especially pleased that this Cluster is a first for Madam Regional Director Soror Gwen Kirtley in Pittsburgh. The Greater Together administration is certainly well on its way to making the Great Lakes the very best it can be.
The excitement of Madam Supreme Basileus, Soror Danette Anthony Reed’s vision for Soaring to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood Initiatives, has heightened our commitment to fulfill each one successfully. The Foundation Initiative, Sisterhood, will deepen the bonds of sorors within each chapter and across international chapters as well. The other Initiatives are robust and cross varied interests. There is an interest area for every soror. This Cluster gathering is one we look forward to with anticipation because it will further our bonds of Sisterhood while sharing more information about the Initiatives. Information and creative ideas will be shared that will provide guidance for planning and implementing programs. Your attendance at Cluster benefits you as an individual, your chapter, your region, and the entire Sorority.
The best phrase to describe the dedication to plan this Cluster is: Teamwork makes the dream work.” Madam Regional Director, Soror Gwen Kirtley, and her team working together with Alpha Alpha Omega Chapter indeed have made this in-person Cluster a reality. The true spirit of Sisterhood and supportive sharing was exhibited continuously in the planning process. Special thanks are extended to Soror Staci Smith, the NOWPA Cluster Coordinator, for her leadership. I also acknowledge Alpha Alpha Omega’s host team with Soror Rhonda Taliaferro as Chairman, and Sorors Alexis Clipper and Ruthie Rea as Co-Chairmen.
The excitement is amplified, and the energy is elevated. We are ready to continue Soaring to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood. The information shared during this Cluster will further enhance existing plans to continue our work that provides “Service to All Mankind.”
Enjoy your stay in Pittsburgh and continue our Sisterly bonds in all we do. Welcome!
Sisterly, Soror Emma Lucas-Darby

SORORITY HYMN (All Stand)
The Northern Ohio Area Cluster held its first meeting on December 8, 1979, at the Commodore Perry Motor Inn in Toledo, Ohio. Cluster Coordinator Soror Ann C. Battles, Zeta Alpha Omega Chapter, presided. This historic meeting was hosted by Zeta Alpha Omega, Alpha Lambda and Iota Iota Chapters. The theme was "Communicate, Understand, React and Reactivate." Soror Gloria S. Smith, Delta Tau Omega Chapter, Great Lakes Regional Director, was the luncheon speaker. Seventy-five sorors were in attendance.
The second Cluster meeting, hosted by Epsilon Mu Omega and Delta Delta Chapters, convened on October 4, 1980, at Youngstown State University. The theme was "Influencing Decisions - Design for Action in the Eighties." Soror Ann C. Battles presided and was reelected Cluster Coordinator. Soror Gloria S. Smith, Great Lakes Regional Director, spoke on Hazing. Fifty-eight sorors were in attendance.
On Saturday, November 14, 1981, the Northern Ohio Cluster met for the third time at the historic Cleveland Job Corps Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Alpha Omega, Lambda Phi Omega and Omega Chapters hosted. Soror Ann C. Battles, Cluster Coordinator, presided. The theme was "Influencing Sorors through Communication and Motivation." Soror Ebraska D. Ceasor, Alpha Omega Chapter, was elected Cluster Coordinator. Seventy-five sorors were in attendance.
In October 1982, the sorors of Western Pennsylvania voted to join forces with the sorors of Northern Ohio to form what we know today as the Northern Ohio/Western Pennsylvania Cluster. This merger took place under the auspices of Great Lakes Regional Director, Soror Bella Clinkscale and Regional Cluster Coordinator, Soror Patricia Petty. Several meetings were held during 1982-1983 to revise the "Guidelines for Planning a Cluster Meeting." The Cluster Coordinators who shared in this undertaking included Sorors Alma Burgess, Pittsburgh; Ebraska D. Ceasor, Northern Ohio; Mae Jackson-Williams, NOWPA; Roslyn McQueen, Michigan; Sandra Thompson, West Virginia; and Urcelle Willis, Southern Ohio. This historic merger became effective on October 8, 1983, at the first official meeting held at the Holiday Inn in Elyria, Ohio. Cooperatively planning this event were Sorors Ebraska D. Ceasor, Alpha Omega Chapter, Northern Ohio Cluster Coordinator and Alma Burgess, Alpha Alpha Omega Chapter, Western Pennsylvania Cluster Coordinator. Seventy-two sorors were in attendance representing their respective chapters. The meeting was hosted by Iota Phi Omega Chapter, Lorain, Ohio. Sorors Ebraska Ceasor, Alpha Omega Chapter and Susie Rice, Lambda Phi Omega Chapter were elected Co-Coordinators for Northern Ohio, and Soror Mona Morphis, Alpha Alpha Omega Chapter, was elected Western Pennsylvania Cluster Coordinator. The Cluster was renamed the Northern Ohio/Western Pennsylvania Cluster.
In 1997, another significant merger occurred at the Cluster Meeting held in Cleveland, Ohio, when sorors unanimously voted to combine the two individual Cluster Coordinator positions.
