Construction of a Sensory Garden
We are extremely happy with the way this project has turned out for our client. This project was extremely challenging at times however we always found a solution on how to rectify any issues that arose. As mentioned, we wanted to create an environment that is engaging to primary school children and engaged their sense of touch, feel and taste. To create this space, we utilised the following materials and items; - Soft fall - Safety Fences & Barracading - Concrete - Outdoor cupboards - Artificial Turf - Outdoor basins - Sandstone Blocks - Plants - Play equipment - Acoustic covered area Works were carried out with a high level of care and attention to detail provided. We faced challenges which we overcome of carrying works out during time. We constantly engaged with the students and teachers regarding feedback and advice for the proposed schedule of finishes to which they were appreciative for the involvement.

Design and develop a welcoming communal space for all to enjoy
The construction of the rock climbing wall was a part of the provided specifications and finishes schedule from the architect of the product Bow Goold. The rock climbing wall caters for all age groups of a primary school age. A lot of thought went into the rock climbing wall for obvious child safety to ensure no one gets hurt hence why its location was pivotal over the soft fall rubber flooring which has been installed in a section of our constructed Sensory Garden. The wall sits approx. 1.8m High off the ground.
During the pre-commencement phase, the engaged architect of the Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta constructed a set of architectual drawings. Due to this area now becoming a more active space for the children, it was decided by all parties that the existing A/C units would not be re-located and construction of a colourbond privacy screen fence was completed. This was completed for a few reasons; - Astethic looks - Child safety Whilst keeping in mind, the new to constantly maintain and service these units, we ensured that the space behind the gates were usable for the A/C contractors.
The water feature was designed by the architect engaged by our client CEDP. This formed apart of the landscape drawings provided. Our cabinet makers Cabinets2Go constructed this water feature by hand and facilitated the install in the sandpit that was constructed. The reason is placed in the sandpit was due to the fact that we tapped into the drainage points that were entered in the sandpit to ensure water is draining away effectivley.
Our constructed sensory garden is approx. 100m long by 6m wide. We used a combination of soft fall, artificial turf and concrete to create an engaging environment for the children which different touches, feels and looks. All parties involved wanted to create an environment that the children would enjoy and engage with each other. In the gardens we installed along the RHS, we included plants that are grown for Sensory gardens which the children are able to play with and engage their sense of touch and feel and taste as these are not harmful.
Acoustic paneling installation
Following the construction of the Covered Outdoor Learning Area (COLA) at Our Lady of the Way (OLOW) Emu Plains, AJ Grant Group was engaged to install acoustic insulation and perforated sheeting to the underside of the COLA in accordance to acoustic consultants’ specifications to improve the acoustic and sound levels to this area. The Catholic Education Office of Parramatta required the work to be undertaken as swiftly as possible, in order to diminish the effects of having these important learning areas offline and required to be completed during the school holidays. The installation and outcome of these works has made a vast improvement to the area with a high quality finish and no disruption to the school and activities.

Classroom Refurbishment
Classroom refurbishment to Our Lady of the Way Primary School in Emu Plains NSW to create open plan learning spaces with new disabled bathrooms for students with special needs. Main features included new carpets throughout, joinery, furniture, doors, windows and design and installation of a curved glass breakout room. This was an exciting challenge for our team, considering the tight timeframes for the project, to coincide with the delivery of all new fun furniture. The initial concept for the curved glass room came from a rough sketch from the architect and then discussion and ideas from our commercial contractor, C2G Commercial who designed shop drawings and manufactured the space. We’re stoked with the outcome as it provides a gorgeous contrasting centre piece. The colour scheme was a continuation of the existing to adapt to the new spaces and the furniture selection was by the school

The existing front entry to the administration building consisted of a combination of concrete and ceramic tiles where existing slab level had dropped & tiles cracked. The works, as per tender plans, involved cutting and removing a section to install new reinforced concrete slab to engineers’ details and carry out resurfacing to new and existing, creating a uniform finish. Due to the heavy demolishing involved to remove the existing concrete and the location being the main entrance to the school for staff and students, works were scheduled during the December 2018-January 2019 school holidays so as not to impact the staff and students. After the completion of removal of existing concrete, the ground and base material was prepared, and new mesh reinforcement installed to prepare for the installation of the new concrete The new concrete was laid and finished allowing sufficient curing timeframes for the preparation and installation of the concrete resurfacing to the entire new and existing front entry.

Industrial Woodwork Room Upgrade
AJ Grant were awarded as the head contractor for the proposed project of the renovation of the wood work room upgrade at McCarthy Catholic College, Emu Plains. A complete strip-out of the existing woodwork room and its contents were carried out prior to our renovation works commencing to freshen up the space, making it an enjoyable environment for the Junior and Senior students undertaking wood work as part of their studies. We set ourselves a goal of a 6-week programme for all works to be completed during the Christmas school holidays of 2018/19 to ensure the space was ready when the students returned for the commencement of the 2019 school year. The project began with a freshen up of the structural steel work/exposed trusses, a new coat of paint including the existing doors and associated jambs. Next, we installed a brand new mechanical ventilation system for all machinery to be linked to, for dust and debris. The existing floor was also freshened up with a new coat of non-slip paint and line marking tape installed to mark up machinery work zones. Our specialist cabinet maker manufactured all of the new woodwork tables and vices to the specifications provided by the architect. New stainless steel trough and eye wash stations were installed to meet compliance. A brand new drill press and router table was supplied and installed by AJ Grant, as part of the project. To finalise the project, AJ Grant supplied and installed a brand new 75” TV along with a silverscreen glass white board for both the teachers and students to use. During the entire process our clients were briefed weekly with regular work updates and walk throughs. We are glad to advise that our clients were extremely impressed with the end res

BRIEF
AJ Grant were greatly appreciative to be given the opportunity to tender and undertake the works for the Kindergarten classroom refurbishment at St Finbars Catholic Primary School.
The aim of the project from the Diocese of Parramatta and St Finbars was to create an environment that is engaging and appealing to the children. - A complete strip out was carried out back to the bare stud walls. - New plasterboard lined ceilings and walls with a square set finish was then applied. - Framework for glass partitions were installed to create quiet spaces for children. - Autex pinboards were installed at various locations of the classroom for the students to display their work and achievements. - Our flooring contractors were then engaged to install brand new carpet tiles throughout as per the clients’ selections and specifications. - The services of Norva Nivel were engaged to supply us high quality furniture for the children to utilise during their day to day operations of their studies - Additional items installed including brand new TV’s and joinery. We are very proud of the end result as were all key stakeholders within this project.
“While building projects can be extremely stressful, I have to say that working with AJ Grant and their staff was totally different. They listened to our school’s needs and had positive and creative suggestions on how to best cater for us with our financial limitations. All parts of the process were clearly communicated and transparently presented and they went over and above the parameters of their job. They minimised any impact on the school’s operations during the time of upgrade of our 4 portables and the end product is excellent. The foreman especially went out of his way to ensure that we were happy with all parts of the project. Nothing was too much trouble for him and he was honest and accurate with work plans and completion dates. Our school would work with them again in a heartbeat!” Phillippa Adgemis | Principal COLDSTREAM PRIMARY SCHOOL
Coldstream Primary | Restore and modernise
In December 2020, AJ Grant Group was assigned to 5 schools in Victoria, to refurbish relocatable structures, in varying stages of dilapidation. The Victorian Schools Building Authority set out guidelines for the building elements to be renewed. The relocatable buildings, although structurally sound, needed to be finessed to bring back up to a presentable standard. Common items across the project included internal and external wall linings, new carpets and underlay, new lighting and fresh paint. Some buildings also required roof and gutter replacement and replacement timber windows. The entire project was to be completed and by the end of the calendar year, which was going to be a challenge. Benefitted by some time over the school holidays, the project was handed over on time and on budget to a very pleased school principal. The end result was very pleasing as these structures built several decades ago were given a new lease of life, creating a modern and fresh learning environment for the teachers and the students. One such school was Coldstream Primary School. The scope across the four buildings included: -
Replace external wall cladding Replacement of air conditioning units Replacement of roof and gutter New ceilings Painting of all surfaces New carpet tiles
