The mechanical model of a lamp fixture design depicts an Owl’s wings opening and closing, the motion of the models arms represents the protection it’s wings provide for it’s body, protecting it from the elements. This portrays how Athena is the protector and the intelligence of Athens

The mechanical model is made up of a rod, harness, arms, pivot shaft, base, amd tube

The rod puts pressure on the base to in order for it to move downwards, the tube supports the rod, the harness is attatched to the arm which is used to tug the arm upwards, the arms use the pivot shaft to rotate.

As the rod is pushed downwards space is created between the tube and base, this expansion of space tightens the harness and brings the arm upwards, the arm rotates on the pivot shaft and starts to open up.

Once the rod is fully pushed down the mechanical model’s arms(lamp shades) fully open up exposing the light bulb.

The initial Light design began as a more rigid, robotic form. The Geometry explored the different potentials of the design and added a sense of natural flow to the Pendant light.

After adding a more natural flow to the design using Geometry exploration, The design was developed into a functional pendant light which now included the natural motion of a real wing.

The pendant light uses a motor and a gear system to reel the stainless steel wires up and down to open and close the pendant light. In the closed position the LED light seeps through the cracks of the shades giving it an aesthetically pleasing apeal
