The holiday season is a time to reflect on the year, express gratitude, and connect with those who make a difference in our lives. For me, this tradition comes alive through writing Christmas cards to our employees—a heartfelt undertaking that I look forward to every year. Over Thanksgiving break, I spent hours crafting 574 personalized cards, each one inspired by the history, contributions, and memories of the incredible individuals who make up our team.

While it’s no small feat—leaving my hand sore and my desk covered in a flurry of envelopes—it’s a deeply rewarding experience. This tradition not only allows me to acknowledge the unique value each employee brings but also reinvigorates me. Taking time to pause and reflect on the dedication, teamwork, and milestones achieved reminds me of the extraordinary people who form the heart of Ajax.

In a world driven by technology and efficiency, this effort to connect on a personal level feels more important than ever. These cards are a small but meaningful way to say, “I see you, I appreciate you, and you matter.” To everyone who receives one, know that these words come from a place of genuine gratitude for all you do. Together, we’ve built more than roads—we’ve built a community, and that’s something to celebrate this holiday season. I have an ask. In 2025, let us begin each day by committing to no accidents or injuries.

Look around; we have all types. The construction industry is a melting pot. What separates us? It is more than race or gender; it is our worldview. How you see the world is like wearing sunglasses; everyone has a different shade of lenses, and these lenses dictate how you see and hear the world. Although race and gender play a significant role in who you are, as you dig deeper, the way you see the world has many different factors like cultural background, life experiences, beliefs and values, education and knowledge, and your social and economic environment.

As we enter 2025, I will continue to write on worldview. In each quarterly newsletter, we will dissect the topic of worldview in hopes of building relationship bridges through understanding each other. When we understand that everyone’s worldview is a product of their life journey, we will begin to appreciate one another’s diversity. This appreciation does not mean we agree on everything, but I hope it will foster a better relationship in which we can collaborate and grow together.

Step One: Stop judging a book by its cover. The phrase “Don’t judge a book by its cover” reminds us to look past the surface. Here are a few practical ways to embrace this mindset: Curiosity Over Judgment Instead of making assumptions, ask questions and seek to understand.

Listening Actively listening to others can reveal layers of their worldview.

Challenge Your Assumptions Reflect on your biases and consider how your worldview might limit your understanding of others.

Seek Diversity Expose yourself to people, stories, and cultures that differ from yours.

Engage in conversations outside your comfort zone.

Start practicing, and we’ll see you back after quarter one.

This year, the Ajax Estimating staff worked extra hard to cover our market area and keep our backlog healthy. Our staff of 12, spanning the government and commercial sectors, collectively bid 853 bids across the company at the date of this publication. Of these, 115 jobs were awarded to Ajax and placed under contract. These projects range in size and complexity from a single day of paving to multi-year contracts. Some highlights include:

As the year comes to an end, I always reflect on our accomplishments over the past year and write down goals for next year. Two words come to mind for 2024: Stability and Growth. Coming out of the Covid years, the construction industry shrank initially, then exploded with market demand. We have been able to navigate those years but with a lot of turnover and change in positions. This year, I feel fortunate to have an Area with little turnover and more stability with young talent. For the first time ever, Area 1 has three paving foremen in their 30s. Our crews are also stocked with younger talent and energy. Our core and experienced employees are working well with training our folks and helping to keep crews stable. This is vital to Ajax’s success now and in the future.

Growth has also been a common theme for this year. Stability has enabled our growth with individuals, with asphalt tonnage and revenue, and as a Team.

Several folks have been promoted from lead man to Foreman and Foreman to Superintendent. I certainly enjoy seeing those folks endure new career challenges and helping coach them through their personal growth. We have great opportunities to improve even more next year as an Area. The FDOT will continue advertising more paving-only projects in addition to our strong County and Private backlog. I am confident that our folks will continue to tackle the challenges next year and focus on providing high-quality paving work for our Community. I would also like to thank everyone for their hard work and dedication to another highly successful year at Ajax. Without our great employees, we are nothing but rock and iron!

2024 comes to a close as one to remember. We have succeeded through growth with many new faces in the office and around the paver. There have been some bumps in the road, but the resiliency of our team of people truly gets us through and on the top. The team's dedication has improved our quality this year, with no slide in our safety or production.

With more significant news this year, Fort Myers expanded its paving operation to include a 3rd Paving Crew. This came with a mix of new employees and some shuffling of current employees to make this a reality. So far, it has been a success, and we continue to improve and advance all of our crews heading into a busy 2025. Special thanks to the Equipment Department for securing the equipment to make this happen.

The success this year did not come easy. Many projects have been complex; we have persevered and seen them through to completion. We are wrapping up our Colonial interchange project, putting down tens of thousands of quality tons for the City of Cape Coral, and impressed Lee County with our pursuit of quality paving on the numerous jobs we have completed. We continued with restoration work from Hurricane Ian on Sanibel and Pine Island while dealing with two more hurricanes this year—a big thank you to all who helped with this restoration work.

Also, thank you to those who pushed, planned, and coordinated for a quick return to work for our area. Keeping everyone working is one of our core values.

We have a lot to look forward to in 2025. The backlog of paving continues to be steady and healthy, which keeps us hungry and busy. Our paving work is the backbone of what we do, and some upcoming projects for 2025 is friction course on SR 80, finishing the Sanibel Causeway roadway, RSW, and PGD Airport, and all the numerous state, county, city, and private projects we have the pleasure to put our stamp on. Again, I would like to echo what Garrett mentions often throughout the year. Whether the upcoming projects are low-bid or based on reputation, we are always amongst the top to be awarded the work because all of you are doing it. You should all be proud, as your extension of the Core Values and being the Choice are the reasons for this success.

This was quite the year in Tampa. Our team was challenged with one of our busiest years ever in this area and responded with exceptional performance. We were hit by two hurricanes back to back and came back from each storm with all hands on deck willing to help fellow employees and the community. Ajax was tasked with some difficult emergency contracts to help with clean-up and the whole team was willing to jump in where needed. Our team had another year with very few injuries. Keeping safety in the forefront is something that we have continued to do year after year and it shows.

I have worked for Ajax in the Tampa area for 20 plus years and have never been prouder to work for Ajax in Tampa.

2025 will be another busy year, and we will have many challenging jobs, including several big design-build projects and airport work. I have no doubt we will be prepared to meet all challenges and continue to produce a quality product we will be proud to call our own.

What a time to be a part of our industry. Our growth in Polk, Hardee, and Highlands Counties has continued to exceed our expectations. Lake Wales is in the process of closing out in 2024, and we have wrapped up several projects in the last few months. We are excited to close out our first and largest design-build project to date. In addition, we have closed several other smaller projects for FDOT. Special thanks go to our Grade, Pipe, MOT, Paving, QC, Mechanics, Trucking, and Plant folks. We truly appreciate all the hard work and dedication each of these individuals have shown. We wish all a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year. As we conclude 2024, I would like to extend my gratitude to all plant employees for their exceptional hard work and commitment to the ARE PRODUCING‌

success of this year. Despite the high demand, maintaining the plants and ensuring their functionality has been challenging.

This has required extended hours to keep our plants running smoothly.

Additionally, it can be challenging to ensure proper staffing and employee training, and I appreciate the effort everyone has invested in making this a success. In the current market, we have seen an increase of over 20% in asphalt sales compared to 2023. This production level has required dedication from our plant personnel to meet the increased demands.

Due to unfortunate circumstances at our Ft. Myers plant, we had to replace our plant operators in a short time while maintaining a very high production level. The new operators in Ft. Myers have really stepped up and learned from the ground up how to run the plant and load out trucks in a timely and efficient manner. This is our highest-producing plant, and with the large number of customers that the plant has daily, it has proven to be very challenging, and the team has risen to the challenge.

Ajax remains committed to growth.

We are investing in our equipment and ensuring that our plants are equipped with the necessary improvements. A significant upgrade will be implemented at Plant 1 in North Venice in December 2024.

These upgrades involve installing a new drum, burner, and rap feeder, enabling the plant to increase production and meet the growing market demands.

I am very excited about the improvement made at all of our plants. Over the years, we have had an issue with dumping asphalt on the hood of trucks. Along with being unsafe, this has also been very costly. Our electricians have developed, implemented, and installed a new system at all the asphalt plants to prevent the human error associated with loading trucks.

In August, we started rolling out our new preventative maintenance program, and we expect this to improve plant uptime and quality significantly. Due to how busy we are, this program will take some time to get running the way we want it to, but I am confident that it will be very beneficial to the plants and their ability to meet Ajax’s future needs.

As we navigate the opportunities and challenges of continued growth, our focus remains on producing high-quality asphalt, maintaining operational excellence, and upholding our commitment to customer satisfaction.

The safety department had an exciting 2024.

Ajax is growing, not only in personnel and revenue but in hours on the job as well. Early mornings, long days, and late nights add to a few more accidents and injuries.

We want to thank project and plant managers for their help documenting and reporting these incidents and partnering with the Safety Department to help us take care of our people (family) and valuable equipment. The department continues to handle all safety aspects at Ajax. This includes job site visits, audits, monitoring toolbox talks, training, and constant review of the camera system in our vehicles. We added a new member to our team. Chad Winn has a background in the insurance and claims industry and has hit the ground running to help Mandy Kustra interface with legal, insurance, and medical help that our company needs.

The safety department would like to thank all employees who decided to “say something when they saw something not right or safe” at Ajax. This Near Miss or Good Catch program allows us to update policies and procedures before an accident or injury occurs.

Our ultimate goal is to do everything possible to ensure each employee makes it home safe to their loved ones daily.

We look forward to a safe 2025 and seeing everyone at our locations and job sites.

As we wrap up this quarter, we are proud to highlight the incredible efforts of our team. It has been a challenging year in the Trucking Department, but we are going strong into the new 2025 year. Our drivers have been maintaining a safety record above 90% each week. This quarter, we implemented new fleet management for our foremen to help them with the driver’s route planning and improving efficiency. We’re excited about upcoming training sessions focused on safety and maintenance to further support our commitment to excellence.

On November 1st, we took over billing for all 8 Plants to ensure the structure material was more efficient and productive. Doing this will help to save money and make it a more lucrative profit.

We are looking forward to 2025.

As we wrap up 2024, the Equipment Division would like to thank our families, vendors, friends, and coworkers for a great year. As a company, we added paving crews and key support personnel and put more runtime on our already highly-utilized paving equipment, leading to record tons of asphalt paved. Thank you to every mechanic who answered the call in the middle of the night. Thank you for staying the extra hour to complete the job. Your job is stressful, and we see you. As more work orders are being closed and more inspections are performed, you can be sure our mechanics will be there to get the job done, rolling into 2025 strong with reliable equipment. Thank you for coming home safe to your families. Thank you for a successful year. Let’s run it back.

Overall, this has been a fantastic year for all 5 of our primary TPR teams (Operator Care, Auditing, CLAIRE, RCA, and Communications) as well as for our steering council, which in part comprises the individual team's sponsors.

Our team leaders and most of our team members have received dedicated training from Mr. Justin Smith of TBR Strategies. This was done to improve our individual skill sets for the teams and their assigned tasks. It also helped to bring us back to basics and to help keep us on course to ensure the overall success of all aspects of TPR. Our teams and team members all performed admirably. They were successful as individual teams and their dedicated members and as a collaborative effort between the teams, sponsors, steering council, and the coordinator. No one hesitated to volunteer or help each other out. This has been shown in our many successes, which often require an all-hands-on-deck approach. Our most notable achievements included: We rolled out a QR coding system for the primary rolling stock field and plant equipment. This program eliminated the in-cab laminated paper standards we had previously used, which proved very functional and time-saving for everyone.

Improved operator care training and how we now track the training programs. A team-based training approach has rapidly become the standard for training.

This should guarantee that more people receive quality training with greater frequency.

The auditing team made very effective changes to almost every aspect of its operations. All audits are now conducted 3 times per year for all of our primary-use plant and field equipment. The team also created a new way of tracking and reporting all audits. Also, new audit forms have been developed for most equipment. This was achieved with the help and direct input of our mechanics and will begin at the start of auditing in 2025. More forms are in the works and will be implemented. We are now successfully and much more accurately auditing more equipment per audit cycle than in previous years.

When I think about our Field QC guys, what comes to mind is the definition of TEAM. TEAM is defined as “a group of people who IS UNDER CONTROL‌

I’m surrounded by 17 diverse individuals, each with their own families, each with all the pressures of living in today’s world, and all of them with their own set of problems. Beyond the aforementioned challenges, these folks wake up at all hours of the day and night, lace up their boots, and come in every shift and work as a TEAM. The results mentioned below come from our efforts in driving quality each shift through good communication, planning, a dedicated team, and hard work. Below are some thoughts from our key QC leaders…

Johnathan Maw, QC Manager - Tampa and Lake Wales We had great success in Tampa with combined coordinated efforts by the project managers, QC technicians (Mr. Hall and Mr. Letchworth), onsite CEI, paving crews, superintendents, trucking, and the plant operations to achieve placing over 19,000 tons in 15 shifts (opposed to the 25 shifts budgeted) on our SR 54 and Little Road project (E7P96). We maintained an average CPF of 1.04, increasing our profitability and reputation for exceeding requirements, for the lots placed due to the diligence of the Odessa plant, QC lab, and field technicians working hand in hand to deliver exceptional quality to our primary clients.

In Lake Wales, we had excellent communication and coordination with the QC field (Mr. Santana and Mr. Campo), QC lab, and plant operations (including consistent QC field and paving crew operations with elevated levels of density) on our SR 64 project to ensure an overall CPF of 1.02 which increased our reputation and profitability. Additionally, we’ve endured a tough hurricane season.

Hurricane Helene headed through the Tampa Bay region on September 26, 2024. Proving AJAX is always part of the solution, we had many emergency asphalt operations that we immediately tended to, ensuring a minimal impact to the traveling public. Of note, some of these efforts included coring operations on the Courtney Campbell Causeway to facilitate immediate repair of the subsiding subgrade and ensure the traveling public’s safety. We received the call the day after the storm had moved out and mobilized our QC technicians (Mr. Tures and Mr. Lozano) immediately to assist where needed to core.

Preparations for this initiative began over two years ago. This monumental task required the collaborative effort and dedication of our IT, finance, and construction departments, and I am incredibly proud of the seamless transition we achieved. The move to the cloud has not only enhanced the efficiency and scalability of our operations but has also positioned us for future growth and innovation. This accomplishment is a testament to our team's hard work, technical expertise, and commitment to excellence. Let's continue to build on this success in the coming year!

Our Ajax Warriors continue to strive to improve the wellness and mental health of Ajax Paving. As we stand, we have 43 active members who have undergone our training. We recently transitioned our orientation training from a 6-hour in-person class to a condensed virtual training. The new course provides the same education as the previous, while letting the attendee take the class at their leisure, allowing a more flexible onboarding process. Additionally, as we roll into the 2025 year, the Ajax Warrior leadership will be changing hands to a new committee. As of January 1, Eric Green, Safety Manager and Angela Wike, Contract Administrator will be taking over the Warrior program as your new chairman and chairwoman.

I’d like to take the time to thank Mandy Kustra and Jamie Simmons for all their help over the past two years with the Ajax Warrior Program.

We are excited to see fresh new leaders take it over and continue to advocate for mental health within Ajax.

September 28th. There were over 1,750 attendees that came from Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Marion, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk and Sumter counties.

During this event, the girl scouts explored paving operations, crafted road signs, and took photos on a roller. We also collaborated with the Girl Scouts of West Central Florida to create the

'Paving the Way to Success' patch, which aims to inspire girls by highlighting career opportunities for women in construction and the significance of roads for a brighter future.

On November 16th, Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC hosted 31 girls and adults from the Girl Scouts of West Central Florida at our new location in Lake Wales.

The day began with a safety briefing, followed by hands-on experiences with roadway equipment and a look into an asphalt quality control lab. Participants toured the plant to learn about asphalt production for road construction. The event wrapped up with a fun activity where they made "asphalt" cookies and interacted with a panel of women in the industry. The girls earned their “Paving the Way to Success” community partner badge and the “Tea & Talk” badge during this valuable experience.
