With another school year drawing to a close it is that time when AISA schools celebrate their many and varied achievements. What an amazing (and at times challenging) year we have had in our region. We here at AISA would like to thank all those who shared their experiences with us and with the rest of you. I’d particularly like to thank the staff and students ant Khartoum International Community School (KICS) for their warm invitation for me to participate at their graduation ceremony last week. What an event it was!

We are thrilled to be offering our new Professional Learning Institutes (PLIs) across the region throughout 2015/16. These are highly focused and targeted learning opportunities for staff in all our schools. More details about the 2015/16 PLI Programme found elsewhere in this circular.
A key part of your membership of AISA is being able to connect with others in the AISA network. Next year we plan to increase our efforts to ensure you know what is happening and that we are better informed of the news and events from schools throughout the AISA region. We therefore intend to ensure that each and every member school and organization has their voice represented here at AISA via your very own AISA Rep. To our teachers, I’m sure all your hard work with your student’s has paid off. As the exam season nears I wish all our learners well. Some of them will head off into the world while new members of your school community are soon to join us here in the region. Before then, no doubt you will be ready for a much needed rest! Good luck with closing out another great year. AISA also welcomes Tom Shearer as the interim Regional Education Officer from the US Department of State, Office of Overseas Schools. Tom knows our region very well having been head of AIS Lagos and having served as the Chair of the AISA Board for many years. Tom – it’s nice to have you back!

AISA PROFESSIONAL LEARNING INSTITUTES
Institute AISA is excited to be expanding our professional learning options for teachers across the continent. In addition to our annual conference for educators (October 2016) and the launch of a separate conference focused on all aspects of leadership (March 2016), AISA is for the first time offering a number of professional learning opportunities throughout the school year. These focused, high impact Professional Learning Institutes (PLIs), facilitated by leading international experts, are based on our members needs and address the unique qualities of teaching and learning in international school settings. In addition to Institutes for educators we are pleased to announce
a range of Institutes for co-professionals working in schools such as HR Managers, Science Technicians, Executive Assistants and others whose efforts improve school effectiveness. Each Institute will take a specific focus and explore it in depth to provide a deep learning experience, powerful enough for participants to go back to their school and implement what they have learnt. PLI’s will take place across the continent and can be repeated in different regions to meet demand. To ensure we meet a diverse range of needs, we are differentiating our Institutes in order to help teachers decide if it will provide an appropriate level of challenge. An Institute may be aimed at one level in its entirety or may have both levels running concurrently at the same Institute. The two levels are: Discover and Explore – an introductory level where little prior experience, study or expertise is expected or required. Embed and Sustain – an advanced level where clear entry requirements are set out and will
be verified before registration is confirmed. These entry requirement may include prior study, prior experienced evidenced by students work sample, prior professional leaning evidenced by certification. In the 2015/16 school year AISA will be offering no less than 15 institutes. Detailed information on each institute is now available on the AISA web site (www.aisa.or.ke/2015PLI) with registrations opening in early August!
