Redesign of a toaster, with a focus on desirability and sustainability.

3 designs were selected that most fit my brief and style. 3D sketch models were made to help solidify form and proportions, influencing more sketches which were merged into a final design.

The toaster uses a 2 in 1 lever sytem to pull the bread down and set a timer

Pull out tray to remove crumbs

A mechanism that uses mechanical advantage to launch a squash ball.

I researched the ballista, an ancient greek crossbow-esque weapon that uses the torsion from twisted ropes to generate a force.

pointed ends for ground insertion
- aids stability
adjustable legs allow you to alter launch angle
ball sits in launch tube
can be fired from a distance using a release pin

designed to be easily dissasembled for reuse of materials - no welds, held together by bolts and brackets

holes for release pin allow the squash ball to be pulled back to different strengths
as the inner is pulled back, elastic potential is generated in the ropes
Design a speaker that fits the ‘rugged’ aesthetic.

rounded edges with angular outlines

slanted cut ins

cut outs – reduces weight but still provides structure
minimal colour palette

rectangular slots
visable fastenings

darker greys contrasted with brighter colous

vents
triangular patterns

transitions between softened faces and angular edges

symmetry

repeated shapes

Model making allowed me to produce foam models which helped in idea generation and form development.

sketches were refined and used to make sketch renders

A brief set by the company TTP for a product that aids carers with ongoing care within the home.

Quick initial sketches, then picking the ideas I most liked and developing them into a final product.
My main approach was “how can I make things more homely”, manifesting itself as how I can disguise medical equipment as something that fits discreetly into the home.

Designed for those suffering with chronic ulcers, particularly on the legs, the ULTTOMAN aids carers in the changing of dressings.
By having everything conveniently inside, carers don’t to carry as much equiptment to appointments. The to-hand nature of the equiptment proveded by the drawers allows for more efficient treatment.
A stylish exterior means it fits well into the home, helping add a sense of normality back into the patient’s life.

bin for easy disposal

leg rest to take load off carer

A personal project to design and manufacture backpacks for everyday use at university.

Simple sketches helped me to develop features and details that I can impliment on scale drawings. These scale drawings allow me to construct patterns for cutting out fabric.

A wall mounted scanner that scans waste to inform users of proper disposal methods.

Creating foam models allowed me to test factors such as ergonomics, scaling and aesthetics.

Final, finished 3D printed model.
