Living Learning Communities Living Learning Communities offer you the instant benefit of living with others who share your interests or major. The communities are designed to be places where students easily make friends and excel academically. Research studies show that students who participate in a Living Learning Community are more likely to stay in school, are more engaged with faculty members and have greater satisfaction with the overall college experience. Living in one of these First-Year Residents Succeeding Together (FYRST) communities will provide a unique FIU experience. With locations all around campus, there are almost endless options for students. If you’re in search of your favorite dish, you’re sure to find it at one of 34 locations on campus. In addition to the multiple retail venues, students are welcome to dine at the state-of-the-art dining hall, The Fresh Food Company. Conveniently located in the Graham Center Student Union, the all-youcan-eat restaurant is open seven days a week and offers great variety. Panther and Lakeview Residence Halls include access to The Fresh Food Company to ensure all first-year students are set up for success. Residential Life Staff & Academic Resource Center The Residential Life staff is a team of specially trained professionals and student staff responsible for the 24/7 operation of the residence halls. Residential Life staff promote the personal and academic success of students living in the halls through services, programs and activities. Whether you’re living in a Living Learning Community or not, our staff members develop positive relationships and environments conducive to student growth and success. We are available to assist students with any concern, including personal, academic and residential policy issues. The Residential Life staff is committed to providing an environment for students that is both enjoyable and educational. The Academic Resource Center (ARC) is conveniently located in Lakeview Hall. The ARC is home to the A-Team, the residential tutors who are here to help you in a wide variety of subjects, including math, sciences, business and writing.

YOUR DAY DOESN’T END WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN. Whether it’s a movie night in the Graham Center, an evening workout at the gym, a basketball game at FIU Arena or an on-campus concert, the problem isn’t going to be finding something to do. It’s going to be finding the time to fit it all in.

Living on campus comes with lots of great benefits that you won’t get in an off-campus apartment. You won’t have any bills for electricity, gas and water, or cable and internet. There’s no need to purchase furniture such as beds, couches, dining table and chairs, or a desk.

Students also have the convenience of receiving just one bill for housing, which can be paid in a variety of ways: n

Housing Payment Plan: Breaks down rent into three installments payable throughout the semester.

n

Financial Aid and Scholarships: Students may apply financial aid to cover some or all of their housing costs.

n

Florida Prepaid University Dormitory Plan: Covers costs for housing with funds from your student’s Florida Prepaid Plan.

n

Housing staff can help families pick the best plan suited.
