From a convent boarding school in England to the pinnacle of Italy’s high society and the mountains around Tuscany that she calls home today, one thing has remained constant in Amanda Ferragamo’s amazing life – her passion and love for artistic design.

Today Amanda is inspired by the natural world around her – from the colour in a flower to the shape of a leaf or the way a branch catches the light and its movement in the breeze. Ailanto Design is the product of a lifetime of inspiration, decades of passion and love for artistic expression.

Ailanto Design is Amanda Ferragamo’s legacy.

Ailanto’s co-founder, interior designer Keeley Green, established her London studio after completing a master’s degree in interior design in Florence, Italy.

Keeley’s sophisticated and ever evolving design style is influenced by her expatriate childhood in Africa and Papua New Guinea, as well as invaluable exposure to a varied range of architectural and design styles from her extensive world travels.

A refined sense of grace, character and keen eye for quality underpin Keeley’s sensibility for ‘relaxed elegance with an edge’. Her aesthetic translates across bespoke commercial developments, boutique hotels and high end residential projects.

Ailanto Design launched in the Spring of 2017 and is the product of Amanda Ferragamo’s lifelong passion and fascination for artistic expression.

Today, Amanda resides in the Pratomagno area of Italy and regularly draws upon the natural beauty of the mountainous countryside, along with her wealth of design knowledge, when crafting a new collection. We are dedicated to producing unique wallpaper, fabric and custom and bespoke cushions. Each design is hand drawn and colour matched meticulously.

We work with both industry professionals and members of the public, looking to create inspirational spaces. Whether you bring years of experience or are new to the interior design world, our team are here to help you realise your vision.

THE JUGGLER ‘The Juggler’ design represents life and in particular perhaps a female life. You notice the lady music conductor at the top of the tree representing the rhythm and music our lives move to. There is the male juggler and the ball is passed from the gentleman like he is the centre of life. We try to keep all of the balls in the air but of course symbolically, one drops to the claw of the tigers, one is balanced on the hand of trapeze artist and one monkey has grabbed it with his tail representing the children. These are the funny and dramatic stories of the unexpected events in our lives.

CARCIOFI Artichokes are such a wonderful delicacy in Tuscany, enjoyed particularly in the spring time. It isn’t uncommon to see fields of artichokes in our area and in fact we quite often grow them. As a result I’m very familiar cooking with them, artichoke risotto being a household favourite. In terms of inspiration though, this design came about after picking a thistle when out walking in the Pratomagno hills. I couldn’t resist after noticing the wonderful vibrant colours. Once at home, I looked this particular thistle up in a book to see what it was and in so doing found a picture of a fantastic thistle. From there developed the design of the artichoke which is accompanied by a wonderful leaf design showcasing their extraordinary form and consistency.

PINI The Pini design comes from the famous ancient Umbrella Pine trees of Rome. Originally planted by the Roman Emperors to shade their marching soldiers down the ancient Appia Way, they form an integral part of the Roman scenery. The Pini and their very definite shape capture Amanda’s imagination as they stand against the evening sky at dusk, like sentinels.

SEMI The Semi design is based on the seeds of the Ailanto or Ailanthus plant which grows wild in Tuscany and flowers in the Spring. The plants are an exceedingly bright citrus green with dark seeds and the seeds themselves are particularly beautiful with wings.

MELOGRANO The Melograno design is inspired by the ancient pomegranate fruit. From one of the terraces in the olive groves, two ancient pomegranate trees are admired. The fruit themselves are comprised of such incredible colours and when they’re ready and full in the Autumn, they fall and split exposing the shiny red seeds. Of course in Italy they are considered lucky.
