During his time with us, he showcased critical skills in the construction industry and demonstrated a great attitude that I believe will make him an excellent employee at your company. Aidan began his internship by working closely with our team's architectural designer, collaborating on ideas, and reviewing and annotating drawings on various projects. At the time, we were working on a large exterior sunroom addition for a residential customer. Using WinEst, he created an estimate for the customer that both Paulsan and the customer were pleased with. Aidan also worked closely with our team's Site Supervisors at various job sites, including Ferrero Canada, construction of a residential home, a two-story retail and residential construction project, and a Kindergarten Classroom addition. Aidan was employed as a Student Architectural Intern with MMMC Architects in the Summer of 2020. Throughout his time with MMMC, he demonstrated excellent technical and creative skills that would make him an ideal employee at your company. Aidan came to our office with an educational background in architectural design, digital tools and fabrication. He helped develop our fabrication studio at MMMC, and one of his first assignments was to create a process that would allow our team to 3D print ArchiCAD BIM models. This enabled us to print directly from ArchiCAD with excellent results without additional 3D modelling software or training. He successfully created a beautiful 1:250 scale model of our Acclaim Seniors day program project in progress, which the clients used for their promotional and fundraising activities. Aidan also developed unique in-office programs such as a generative site model tool and an environmental analysis tool by integrating his knowledge in Grasshopper, C# and Python with ArchiCAD. Due to the remote-work nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, he documented his research through a series of professionally recorded video tutorials that he produced. Genetically Modified Collective Organisms (GECOs) is a speculative project responding to the future of public space. It’s a physical architectural response to what could occur when architecture, gene editing, open-source information sharing, and biological printing converge in the public realm. Although GECOs are a global phenomenon, this intervention’s site takes place in Noto, Sicily, a historically Sicilian-baroque city. Through film as the primary medium of expression, I present my project as a sequel to the iconic movie L’Avventua by Michaelangelo Antonioni set in the very same piazza in the early 1960s.

PARTICIPATORY PARAMETRIC CITY SEMESTER 3 STUDIO - CONFLUENCE INSTITUTE X ODILE DECQ - PARIS, FR During the March 2020 lockdown, I was inspired by the radical 60s movements, participatory architecture, and the “architect as an artist”. So I used a lot of colour and fantasy in my ideas, and further developed Yonah Friedman’s Flatwriter project. I took my organic thoughts and translated them into a script that could generate infinite versions of the city. All you have to provide it with are points of intensity. In this scenario, the architect’s role would be to design the skeleton or master plan. Every architectural element in the scene is simply a bounding geometry or volume broken down into points. The objects that would populate these points would be designed by the people or people from the community. This could be done by hand, through software, or in real-time using thoughts and emotions through a “brain-computer interface.” The result is a collage of objects uniting to create the final product. The software helps organize the pieces, make connections, orient them, and connect systems in an environmentally friendly way.

A LIVING WALL FROM PATTERNS IN WATER SEMESTER 5 - CONFLUENCE INSTITUTE X NICOLAS FLOC’H - PARIS, FR

For this workshop, with artist Nicolas Floc’h, we were to take inspiration from water and use it to create an art or architectural proposal. I was inspired by the natural patterns found in moving water, and I developed a living wall that would move in real-time according to water videos. That way, even while inside a home, a human can feel connected with water’s power or its stillness, and beauty. I did this by mixing digital material creation with live production processes and then applied that technology to an architectural system.

COLLECTIVE BUILDING SEMESTER 4 - CONFLUENCE INSTITUTE X GAETAN KÖHLER - PARIS, FR

This workshop’s idea was to build three different shapes among three groups of 3-5 persons. Using only wooden skewers and hot glue, my group freely created a structure using our tables as a foundation and connected our designs. We used coloured string and sugar cubes to populate the design as if it were mountainous terrain. It included circulation for water (blue string), energy (red string), and wastewater (gray string). Finally, we changed the structure’s scale to something smaller and used paper to create “a space for living.” The ultimate goal was to show how one could quickly construct a large-scale model with inexpensive material and show it is essential to work with our hands and use our creative intuition.

During my internship in Summer 2020 with MMMC Architects, I performed research on an ArchiCAD to 3D printing and ArchiCAD/Rhino/Grasshopper workflows. NO AMENDS SEMESTER 2 - CONFLUENCE INSTITUTE X JOËL ANDRIANOMEARISOA - PARIS, FR

No Amends Sight and sound installation amends plural noun To compensate or make up for a wrongdoing. I reacted to Joël Andrianomearisoa’s statement, “Tonight I am painting the city in black” by associating “tonight” with literally going for a walk at night. Through a sensual experience, I “paint the city in black” by visiting many different places, photographing their words, and collecting their sounds, touch and scent. I create No Amends through video, audio, and displayed objects (sight and sound). I have collected all of the photos, audio, and objects during my evening walks in Paris’s 11th arrondissement.

LIGHTNESS SEMESTER 2 MAKERSPACE CONFLUENCE INSTITUTE - PARIS, FR The theme of this workshop was “lightness.” Lightness, as it relates to architecture, can be broken down into material capacity, performative morphology, and fabrication processes. This workshop’s idea is to go through the design process, beginning with these factors versus traditional programmatic or context focus. It’s essential to learn to work this way as architecture is increasingly invested in structural efficiency and material performance due to the global scarcity of natural resources, increasing material waste in the construction industry, and new environmental conditions stemming from climate change. The four-year RIBA Part 2 student, Mary Ala and I worked on this project as a team. Each team began with a case study and evolved that case study into something wholly new and different by the end of the semester.

CUSTOM HANDLE FOR THE MOON SEMESTER 1 - CONFLUENCE INSTITUTE X ROMAN VIRICEL DESIGN STUDIO - LYON, FR

Handles are everywhere. They’re your bedroom door, your coffee mug, your purse, the list goes on. Handles are used for opening something that needs opening, closing something that needs closing or holding something that needs holding. A handle is the “middle man” between your hand and an object. But what does a handle look like in Philolaus City – a city with skin-like walls and one-sixth of the gravity of earth? Well, it might look like this. This teardrop-like handle is comfortable for holding, is easily tossed around when needed, and has a soft hook for pinching and pulling the skin-like walls, giving one the extra boost they require to move freely in a gravity-less utopia.
