Objective To encourage excellence in all types and areas of architecture, the Spokane Chapter of the American Institute of Architects announces its Design Awards Program for 2022. Through the program, the Chapter seeks to honor works of distinction by its members and to bring public attention to outstanding architectural services rendered by its members.

April 28 - KNOWLEDGE SHARE SERIES Project Management in Architecture Panel - 1 LU 12-1:00p at Bernardo Wills’ Bissinger Room, lunch will be provided. Moderated by David Buescher of HDG. Learn as panelists share their experiences and discuss the role of the project manager in architecture. Panel includes: Jill Kurtz of NAC Architecture, Kris Jeske of NAC Architecture, Licia LeGrant of Bernardo Wills Architects, Forrest Shannon of Integrus Architecture, and Corey Zachow of MMEC Architecture + Interiors

FA L L K E Y N O T E S P E A K E R FRANK BARKOW - BARKOW-LEIBINGER Architect Spotlight - 1 LU 5:30p at the Montvale Event Center, drinks and hors d’oeuvres will be served. Frank Barkow, a Montana native and MSU alum, founded the Berlin-based architecture firm with Regine Leibinger in 1993. Over the years, Barkow-Leibinger’s project scopes have ranged from public and office buildings to residential and industrial buildings. Recently, their involvement in practice, research, and teaching has focused on the question of how digital manufacturing technologies can be deployed to not only complement architecture as surface or accessory, but also contribute to creating constructive, spatial structures.

PRESENTING SPONSOR INTERIOR TECH
Interior Tech provides consulting services early in the design process, for fire separation, emergency egress and smoke control. Interior Tech works with architects, engineers and building officials to maintain the design vision while ensuring building code compliance. We also act as advisers for building retrofits and provide options for building owners and users regarding changes to their current security/life safety designs. Interior Tech also provides and installs a number of interior glass operable and telescoping wall options, demountable partitions, and glass office fronts.

Interior Tech has several unique glass wall systems including Extendo telescoping walls. Extendo is a telescoping mechanism designed to divide space through simultaneous sliding frameless glass doors, providing a large opening with minimal storage space. Innovative system for high end projects leaving a clear opening up to 16’-8”. Synchronized opening systems of 2, 3, or 4 doors.
The automatic resetting Safescape® S9000 Series Fire Door Systems with built in emergency egress are side coiling fire door systems that can be provided with one or two emergency egress doors on their leading edge. The S9000 Series Fire Door Systems are side activated which allows for the doors to navigate around curves and contoured openings.

2022 DESIGN AWARDS DESIGN AWARDS JURY Each entry will be judged for the success with which the project has met its individual requirements. Entries will be weighed individually, not in competition with each other. The size and location of a project will in no way limit its eligibility. Members may submit as many projects for consideration as they wish. Jury considerations include design quality, functional utility, economy, environmental harmony, sustainability, accessibility, aesthetic delight, creativity, craftsmanship and innovation.

Senior Designer at JENSEN in San Francisco, CA Yusheen Yang joined JENSEN in 2014, bringing a background in architecture, landscape architecture and urban design. With experience ranging from urban residences, to public spaces, and to large-scale overseas developments, Yusheen approaches each project with an eye towards architecture’s role in shaping our environment–and society—as well as an appreciation of the thoughtful details that distinguish good design. She graduated from University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Architecture, then worked in New York City before earning her Master of Architecture in urban design at Washington University.

RA Co-Founder of WOW Atelier in Salt Lake City, UT Chimso Onwuegbu is an architect and cofounder of WOW Atelier in Salt Lake City, UT. Each project can be distilled down to one overarching fundamental purpose or client vision, and from that core, a series of choices and directions arise. My goal in each project is to determine what each client strives for above all else, what possibilities exist for achieving those goals, and most importantly what the best path forward to creating success. It is in the details and aggregate of the small decisions where success and failure is determined, and it is in those moments where my passion lies.

LEED AP ID+C Principal at Anderson Mason Dale in Denver, CO Gillian Hallock Johnson is a Principal at Anderson Mason Dale Architects where she leads the firm’s interior design services. Johnson is an influential thought leader in workplace environments and an award-winning interior designer focused on the impact of design on essential human experiences. With a rich background in architecture, art history and study in Italy, Johnson launched her career at AMD before rising to leadership in an esteemed interiors firm and within the broader design community.
