An eventful year has passed - too fast, actually. After a lapse of a few years, we have a yearbook again, thanks to a few ambitious movers and shakes from the twelfth grade. It is because their energy and knowledge that we can present you with a pictorial history of the 2018-2019 school year. An egg hunt is a game during which decorated eggs or foil-wrapped eggshaped chocolates of various sizes are hidden in various places for children to find.

RECYCLING All of us can do our part to recycle, and with children it starts at an early age. If children learn from early on to recycle they will carry that habit with them for life, and learn how to become part of the solution to recycling for a healthier planet PLANTING
Flowers are much like children in several ways.They are beautiful, bright, come in many colors, and can grow quickly! Each flower is unique, although they are all different,they all grow the same way. Children learned in this activity the life cycle of a flower,the parts of the flower and what flowers need to grow.
COOKING SESSIONS Children love to show what they can do,and participating in cooking projects provides opportunities to gain sense of accomplishment,and help children develop pride and confidence in their skills and abilities.

Active Learning @ AHSS What is Active Learning?
Active Learning refers to the research finding that learning is more effective when children are engaged in the learning process. Long term retention and understanding is a result of the mental work that the children put in their learning process. With active learning, children begin to form meaningful relationships between ideas instead of just recording information in their brains.

Why is Active Learning Important? Researchers have found that higher student achievement is associated with active learning. It is also proved that students who employ active learning strategies in the planning, monitoring and evaluation of their learning progress have outperformed their peers.

Halloween Party! October 31st is a spooky day! The Seniors did their best and hosted a halloween party for grades eight and up. It was held in the courtyard, where fake spider webs and other decorations were placed. The night was filled with dancing and singing as the DJ put on some classic tunes. After a few hours, the attendees were given sandwiches and drinks to replenish their energy. Teachers such as Firas, Sanad, Rowan, and Dalia also danced with the students and had a blast. The night ended too soon but left everyone happy.
On March 21st, grades eight through twelve joined together in watching two movies on the field downstairs. Because of Spirit Week, everyone wore pajamas and brought their comfiest blankets to cuddle with. They enjoyed their night with popcorn, soda, and candy. The movies watched were Night School, a silly comedy, to Happy Death Day 2, a thriller that left everyone on edge. Seniors and Juniors helped with popping the popcorn, passing out drinks, and making sure everyone was happy. The atmosphere was welcoming and everyone left with smiles on their faces at the end of the night.

Senior Bake Sales Yes, yes, it's that bake sale which whenever you go to recess find. Yet, never get the chance to taste. What can we say... our cookies sell FAST! Over the course of the year, Seniors held multiple bake sales. Each one had sweet and savoury foods that the students themselves made. The little kids left crumbs for the rest of the school! Teachers also bought from the table to support their *favorite* students.

SCHOOL CLUBS It's been a great year for the students of AHSS as we have launched several clubs this year based on the students' interest.
Website Club Last year, AHSS has first launched its first club, the Website Club. As the founder and head of the club, I saw tremendous support from Dr. Sue and Mr. Ahmad for setting up this club. Since 2017, I have first started developing our new school's website with the cooperation of Mr. Sanad to deliver a high quality website. The website contains school events (past & upcoming), general information, news & announcements, and finally, the online report

card system. The report card system delivers the student's monthly assessment from an online portal, in addition, the system has a detailed marking objectives which shows the student's weak areas in the subjects, which helps student track their performance. The club helped me very much in developing my coding knowledge and made me realize what I am really passionate about. Therefore, I encourage every student at AHSS to start their own niche because it is very rewarding.
Robotics Club A WRITING BY STUDENT LAMA MUQATTASH - 9 A/IG TELLING US ABOUT HER EXPERIENCE IN THE ROBOTICS CLUB In general, the Robotics Club at our school is a place where we (the members) go to have fun while learning something new. The members didn’t know each other at first, however, as time passed while we were working, we got to know each other better much better, and now we are all friends. AHSS participated on Sunday, April 7th, 2019, in the Arab FIRST LEGO League 2019 robotics competition in Amman. under the patronage of HRH Prince Hamzah. We had been helped from our two great coaches Mr. Zaid and Mr. Malek, in which they both found a way to teach us how to work on the demanded project, alongside how to have fun while doing it.
SENIOR WALL 2019 After spending countless hours (literally 4 days) of painting the wall under the scorching sun. We finally made it. The one and only remnant of the Class of 2019's legacy. (Besides this book of course). Done on Sunday, April 28th, 2019.
SENIORS DITCH DAY What's better than spending a day out in the forest, barbecuing kebabs and celebrating life with your class, while everyone at school is having classes and studying? Right! Nothing.

A FIERCE COMPETITION During Spirit Week activities we had Chess Day, where each class had to wear black and white (Grade 8A won that day), and also, students with adequate Chess knowledge participated in a chess competition held at the auditorium.

The competition lasted three days, where we had many ties and rounds until we got our finalist. The top three winners were: 1. Riad Al Hroub (11 B SAT), 2. Ahmad Nieroukh (9 A IG), 3. Mohannad Abdul Rahman (8 B). So congrats for your hard earned prize and we hope you had fun!

AHSS & RJS INITIATIVE
SHABBEK WA BADER #ON_GROUND SOCIAL INITIATIVE Fifteen students from grades ninth through twelfth signed up to be part of community service. They met up with fifteen students from a national school (RJS) to talk about current events and coming together as one, launching a social initiative on various social media platforms. The initiative was coordinated by Wasel NGO targeted high school students to guide them in choosing a major according to their interests As a finale, they hosted an event at the Al-Shams Theater under the patronage of the Minister of Culture & Youth. Arts Competition For the fourth consecutive year, AHSS held its nation-wide "Arts Competition", several schools participated in the event with their Middle School students. The students were required to draw a picture in a period of two hours. Then reputable judges and high school arts teachers judged the paintings. Afterwards, winners were awarded and given medals for their marvelous drawings and paints.
SPELLING BEE GRADES 5 & 6
ORGANIZED BY THE CLASS OF 2019 English Spelling Bee Contest On December 6th, a spelling bee took place in the auditorium. It was a way to test the students, grades 1-7, their knowledge in spelling and hopefully expand their vocabulary. Easy words were first used and it got more challenging as the competition went on. The spelling bee lasted for three days and on the third day the words were more difficult. The winner was a girl named Rasha in 6th grade. She was given a prize for her outstanding talent in knowing how to spell a great amount of words. This was a very fun and educational competition that took place at our school that we hope continues at AHSS for many years to come. Student Osama Shammout, grade twelve, played the role of Announcer, carefully enunciating each work and providing definitions, word origin, and the words used in a sentence as requested by each competitor. The Spelling Bee was judged by the other grade twelve students: Lujain Samhan as the Supervisor, Maya Suboh and assisted by Ghaith Al-Sukhon as judges.

Another year has ended! Each day we get closer and closer to our goals and ambitions. This yearbook shows dedication for just that. Of course this wasn't an easy job. We had a late start, some technical difficulties, and dealt with sweaty kids, but it all worked out. Having an opportunity where there usually isn't one isn't something to pass by. Even though it may be tough, there's always a way to overcome it. I still remember my first day of school and I'm sure you might, too. It was awkward and strange but looking back, we had nothing to worry about. Growing older, there were sleepless nights and many mental obstacles yet we still made it. Our journey through these past few years had us wondering about the future. Now, we think about the future with a feeling of insecurity but also courage. Creating this yearbook meant saving memories and keeping them with you as you grow. Seeing it progress from blank pages to the final pages was a sight to see. Each section has details that may go unnoticed but it's the big picture we look at.
