LETTERS FROM THE EDITORS Being an AP photography student this year was an experience. Every person in our class put in tons of effort to finish their portfolios, and this issue we wanted to highlight that! Conveniently, as the deadline to submit the AP portfolios approached, so did Evening for the Arts. While we were all busy with sports, classes, and our own photography, everyone worked hard to make a killer display for the art show. Spring was crazy, but looking back, it produced some amazing art. Next year will be even better! Happy summer!

Spring is a busy time at Anderson High School with AP and end of course exams, field trips, prom, spring sports, and theater performances in full swing. For the last 16 years, Anderson High School has put on the Evening for the Arts. It is an annual celebration of the many talented students at Anderson High School, and all the work they have created throughout the school year. In this issue we have included examples of the student work as well as the AP 2D Design student portfolio displays. I hope you enjoy the summer issue of Filter.

Evening for the Arts April 18, 2018
The Anderson High School art and music departments held their 17th Annual Evening for the Arts on April 18th, 2018. The show is a celebration of the arts that includes student artwork from both the visual art department and the architectural drawing/engineering department, as well as performances from the music department. The Evening for the Arts is not only an art show, but a competition that is judged by a selected Anderson High School Alum who currently works in the arts. Awards are given in a variety of medium and subject matter, as well as student work being selected by the school administration to be displayed in the high school. The show is held annually in the spring, and attended by community members, alumni, faculty and students. The music department performs as well, including performances from the vocal musicians, jazz band, and orchestra. The evening could not happen without all of the hard work and dedication from the students, parents, faculty, and staff of Anderson High School.

AP 2D DESIGN Anderson High School offers its students the ability to take AP 2D Design, often after taking one or two years of photography or graphic design. The class requires students to submit 24 images in the final AP portfolio, due in early May-- this year May 11. In the portfolio, 12 images must be centered on one topic, called a concentration. The other 12 images are the breadth section, and show a variety of techniques and can cover any subject, topic, or theme. In the following pages, the AP students of the 2017-18 school year created pages of their portfolio work, showing both concentration and breadth pieces. Enjoy!

For my AP portfolio, I tried to experiment and try new techniques in both my concentration and breadth photographs. My concentration was centered on combining watercolor paint with my photos, which can be seen on the right side of my display above and in some of the photos to the right. My breadth photos show a range of subjects, from record stores to stained glass windows.
