Gumerove Elected President of The Arc New York
AHRC Nassau has been awarded the four-year PersonCentered Excellence Accreditation With Distinction, from CQL I The Council on Quality and Leadership. This award recognizes that the organization embraces person-centered solutions to improve the quality of life for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). When AHRC Nassau partnered with CQL to pursue accreditation, it undertook a rigorous process to review and improve supports and services. The efforts of AHRC Nassau were focused on empowering the people who receive supports to pursue what really matters in their lives, and achieve their personally-defined outcomes. AHRC Nassau has been awarded CQL accreditation as a result of demonstrating proficiency in the following areas: • Basic Assurances® Ensuring fundamental safeguards related to health, safety and human security • Personal Outcome Measures® Supporting and empowering people to achieve their goals and dreams • Person-Centered Excellence Demonstrating organizational commitment to continued enhancement of systems “CQL commends AHRC Nassau for its success in increasing the quality of life for the people it supports. We are pleased to partner with them on this journey of ongoing organizational transformation,” states Mary Kay Rizzolo, president and CEO of CQL.
AHRC Nassau First Vice President Saundra M. Gumerove, Esq., was elected President of The Arc New York, the largest nonprofit in New York State supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Leading the 51 regional chapters, Gumerove is poised to address these issues, after serving as a member of The Arc of the United States Policy Committee for the past 10 years and Chair of The Arc New York Government Affairs Committee for seven years. “We are inspired by her service and all that will be achieved through her leadership,” said Stanfort Perry, executive director, AHRC Nassau. “As a chapter of The Arc New York, we will remain focused on advancing the issues impacting the people we support, independently and as part of a greater community.”
