2026 ANNUAL ROSE BALL
to benefit children and adults with intellectual and developmental Disabilities
The AHRC Foundation manages two pooled special needs trusts. These trusts are an affordable option for families, especially when setting up an individual supplemental needs trust is too complex or costly. Board members of the ARHC Foundation and its related entities serve as trustees, bringing expertise in law, finance, and the specific issues facing people with I/DD throughout their lifetime.

Jack Posner's connection to this mission did not begin in a boardroom. It began on his block, with his neighbor and friend Ronnie Glade, a person with a developmental disability who left an indelible mark on the kind of man Jack would become and the causes he would choose to champion.
That personal bond, combined with the values forged during his years as a Peace Corps volunteer in the 1970s, drew Jack toward a life of service. A founding member of the Nassau County AHRC Foundation in 1994, Jack has given decades of service to its Board of Directors, his commitment to its mission as strong today as when it began.
As an attorney who has practiced in Nassau County for more than 50 years, Jack has spent his career helping families navigate some of the most important decisions they will ever face, including how to plan for a child who will need care after they are gone. He has done this work with expertise, with patience, and with the deep understanding of someone who knows what this work means to the people and families he serves.
His commitment extended well beyond the Foundation. Before becoming a founding member of the AHRC Foundation, Jack served as Chair of the AHRC Nassau Guardianship Committee, bringing to that role the legal knowledge, experience, and humanity that have defined his life's work. He served on the AHRC Nassau Board of Directors as well, giving generously of his time and judgment across both organizations for decades.
Through his guidance and the trust built with families over a lifetime, Jack has inspired legacy gifts to the Foundation totaling more than $10 million, including one transformational bequest exceeding $5 million, the largest in the organization’s history.
The Cornerstone Award honors those whose dedication provides the foundation upon which lasting impact is built. Jack Posner has been that foundation, for the families he has counseled, for the people whose lives he has helped protect and their families, and for an organization that is better positioned to meet its future because of his service. The Nassau County AHRC Foundation is honored to present its 2026 Cornerstone Award to Jack Posner.

Jack and Eydie Garofalo

Jack and Eydie Garofalo's nearly four decades of service begins with family. When their son Jack Jr. was young and enrolled in AHRC Nassau's preschool program, the Garofalo’s found themselves among parents brought together by a shared belief that their children deserved every opportunity life could offer. What began as a family's journey became a lifetime of leadership, and a legacy that has touched thousands of lives across Nassau County.
Eydie's service began through the New Hyde Park Auxiliary at a time when women like her were the backbone of AHRC Nassau. The auxiliaries raised the funds that made programs possible before government had committed to supporting them, serving as a formidable advocacy force across Nassau County, mobilizing families, shaping public opinion, and building the community understanding that made growth possible. Eydie served as the Corresponding Secretary of the New Hyde Park Auxiliary for many years and served as a member of the Rose Ball Committee, one of the organization's most cherished annual traditions, throughout her years of service.
Jack joined the AHRC Nassau board in 1988, bringing with him thirteen years of experience on the New Hyde Park school board, at a moment when families were waiting years for a community residence for their son or daughter, years of uncertainty for aging parents who had seen what institutional care looked like. When state funding finally arrived in the late 1990s, AHRC Nassau was positioned to open group homes throughout Nassau County. Jack, serving as President from 1998 to 2001, led the organization at the beginning of one of its most expansive periods in its history, and the trust the auxiliaries had built across Nassau County neighborhoods, year after year and family by family, helped make those homes welcome. Today AHRC Nassau manages the largest residential program for people with developmental disabilities in New York State.

Jack continues to serve as an officer of the AHRC Nassau Chapter Board, as a member of the Nassau County AHRC Foundation Board, and as a founding member and current Secretary of the Board of Advantage Care Health Centers. For more than twenty years he chaired AHRC Nassau's Compass and Vocational Committee.
Like Margaret Riva before them, Jack and Eydie Garofalo have given themselves fully to this mission, never losing sight of the children, adults, and families at the heart of it all. It is with deep appreciation and admiration that the Nassau County AHRC Foundation Board of Directors presents them with its highest honor, the Margaret Riva Lifetime Achievement Award.

The AHRC Foundation’s 21 Century Society honors individuals who have made a planned gift to the Foundation. By naming the Foundation as a beneficiary in their will, life insurance policy, retirement plan, savings account, or charitable trust, these donors ensure that future generations of children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilites will continue to benefit from essential services and programs across Long Island.
Charitable gifts made through your estate plan are powerful. They improve the quality of life for the people we supportand provide lasting fulfillment for you as a donor. Many generous supporters may not realize how deeply their contributions will be missed when they are no longer here. A planned gift is a meaningful way to ensure that your legacy of compassion lives on. Planning made simple. Makingaplannedgiftdoesn’thavetobecomplicated. Your gentle face and patient smile with sadness we recall.
You had a kindly word for each and died beloved by all.
The voice is mute and stilled the heart that loved us well and true, ah, bitter was the trial to part from one so good as you.
You are not forgotten, nor will you ever be as long as life and memory last, we will remember thee. We miss you now, our hearts are sore, as time goes by, we miss you more.
Your loving smile, your gentle face no one can fill your vacant place.
