Campers enjoy days filled with indoor and outdoor activities and crafts as well as tours of our historic buildings. The weekly themes are thought provoking and engage campers in a fun and educational way. Duplicate camps include new activities to create a unique experience each week. Read more about the specific themes below!

Camp Grades:

6-11 years, Grades 2-6 | Campers must have completed first grade by June 2026.

“HER” Story

Back by popular demand! Celebrate women from all walks of life, from ancient to modern, by looking at their daily lives, their struggles and the achievements that are now part of their historic story. Hear inspiring stories, get creative and get moving!

Adventures in Art (I and II)

Campers explore and connect with different types of art by immersing themselves in the time period that they originated in, while also getting the chance to create masterpieces of their own! Duplicate camps include new activities to create a unique experience each week.

American 250

What better way to celebrate this monumental event than by immersing yourself in it? Join us for a one-of-a-kind camp focused on all things American history! Campers learn about their unique stories and celebrate the America 250 through fun activities and hands-on experiences. Each day brings something new and interesting!

Folklore and Fairytales

By drawing inspiration from the writings and home of our local fairytale writer, Nathanial Banta, campers explore the origins of popular folklore traditions and fairytales. Campers also have the opportunity to write and illustrate their own stories to share with family and friends!

History Time Warp

Calling all time travelers! Campers explore the fashion, music and culture of different notable decades throughout the 20th century. Learn what made eras like the roarin’ twenties, the flyin’ forties and the swingin’ sixties iconic as we groove, trot and hop our way through the last century.

Hometown History (I and II)

Did you ever wonder how Arlington Heights got its start? In this program, campers delve into Arlington Heights’ past, from its founding to its development into the bustling village it is today – by exploring the museum and visiting different significant sites around town.

The Great Outdoors

Get ready for a nature-filled week! Campers are on our beautiful museum grounds engaging their five senses as they learn about plants, animals and environmental stewardship through storytelling, animal, insect, plant identification and more! Who knows what we can find crawling through the soil to help us in our activities.

Magic at the Museum (I and II)

Abracadabra, campers! Put on your magician robes and get those wands ready for a fun-filled journey into the fictional and real worlds of magic. Campers are sorted into houses and make their own house crests, learn about the history and practice of magic and participate in a variety of magical crafts and activities. Campers put on their own magic show by the end of the week! Duplicate camps include new activities to create a unique experience each week.

For more information about Museum Camps, contact Jeff Anderson, Museum Director, at jeff.anderson@ahpd.org.

Pioneer Adventure (I and II)

Travel back in time to the 19th century and learn what it was like to live in pioneer days. Campers test their skills at a variety of pioneer activities, such as churning butter, candle and rope making as well as historical games. Work hard and have fun, just like real pioneer children! Duplicate camps include new activities to create a unique experience each week.

Soda Pop Camp (I and II)

Gather at the site of the Original Arlington Beverages Factory for an “explosive” journey into the world of nineteenth-century soda pop-making. Campers learn about the scientific properties behind this fizzy drink, how it’s made to the bottling process, through experiments, tastings and demonstrations. You even produce and star in your own soda pop commercial! Duplicate camps include new activities to create a unique experience each week.

Camp-Ology

Secrets of the Museum (I and II)

Campers learn about how a museum works through collecting, exhibiting and trying their hand as a museum curator. With their new found knowledge, the campers work together to solve a mystery from a seemingly unrelated donation of artifacts. Who is the mysterious benefactor and what do these objects have in common? Let the investigation begin! Duplicate camps include new activities to create a unique experience each week.

Do you know what “-ology” means? Join us as we discover the “study of” many things. Campers dive into different areas of study including Archeology, Paleontology, Museology and Anthropology by participating in unique activities and crafts. Campers may even get to meet the professionals behind these amazing fields of study!

World Explorers

Get out those passports and prepare for a trip around the globe! Campers “visit” different parts of the world by experiencing historic and modern games, crafts, celebrations and languages from the countries we explore. This gives campers a new appreciation for the richness and diversity of cultures that have influenced our own community.
