FALL 2025 TABLE OF CONTENTS

Our Park District Commissioners

The Arlington Heights Park District 100th Anniversary year is starting in a big way! Thank you to all the families who joined us earlier this summer for the Ribbon Cutting at Recreation Park and at Picnic in the Park to celebrate this centennial milestone. Staff has been planning a full year of exciting activities and we look forward to sharing it with you and your families. Be sure to visit ahpd.org/100years for the latest updates!

Phase I of the Recreation Park renovation is nearly complete! Later this year, we’ll celebrate the opening of the new skate park. As a reminder, Recreation Pool will close for the season on August 10. Construction on the community center, pool and bathhouse will start following the closure.

Mark your calendars for Rec & Roll Back In Time on August 10 from 12-3PM — a fun farewell to the current pool, bathhouse, and community center before construction begins. It’s your chance to celebrate the memories before we move into an exciting new chapter. You can also view the latest project renderings on our website to see what’s ahead!

And speaking of exciting changes — Arlington Ridge Center has proudly served over 12,000 members in its first five years and demand continues to grow. To better meet our community’s needs, we’re moving forward with an expansion that will enhance programming, increase capacity and create new opportunities for wellness and recreation.

What’s

Coming to ARC:

• A refreshed lobby experience

• Reconfiguration of aquatic locker rooms

• A new two-story addition for fitness classes and programming

• Two private family changing rooms with showers, conveniently located near the Family Activity pool

• Relocated outdoor basketball court

Visit our website for additional details and project updates.

This fall, get ready for the return of community favorites like Trunk or Treat and Winter Frostival — plus exciting new events like our Back to School Family Concert, Cheers to a Century, Oddities Night and the Pumpkin Smash. Full event details can be found on pages 9-14 of our guide.

Thank you for being part of our 100th Anniversary celebration and for joining us for another exciting year with AHPD!

As always, we look forward to seeing you in the parks, on the golf courses, in the tennis clubs, recreation centers, museum, playgrounds and ball fields….where the fun happens in Arlington Heights!

The Arlington Heights Park District is governed by a Board of elected officials. The Board meets on Tuesdays at the Administration Center. Meetings begin at 6:30PM. Residents are able to attend. Visit ahpd.org for the board meeting schedule.

Sincerely,

First Time Registering?

Park District staff are here to help! Park District residents must come, in-person, to either Administration Center, Camelot, Pioneer Community Centers or the Arlington Ridge Center during registration hours and provide proof of residency for all minors and household members being added to the account.

Park District non-residents do not need to show proof of residency and may either create an account in person at one of the above locations or call 847.577.3000 and ask staff to create a household account over the phone.

Regardless of residency status, new account holders must provide a name, address, email, phone number and your date of birth to set up an account.

Account Creation Information

The following forms of identification will be accepted to prove residency:

1. Each adult on the profile must provide either a driver’s license or state ID with current address OR two of the following: utility bill(s), no older than 60 days, voter registration card, or a vehicle registration card listing name and household address.

2. For children who do not have a driver’s license or state ID, provide a current report card, school picture ID, birth certificate, parent insurance card listing dependents, or other form of ID a parent may have that prove guardianship or that the children reside at that address.

If the activity is full, what happens?

Registration must be completed in order to be placed on a waitlist. We do not charge you to register for a waitlist spot and will contact you if a space opens for that activity or additional activities are added. Please be sure payment information is accurate and saved to your household account as we require payment to transfer from the waitlist into an activity. Please note: we recommend that, if possible, you register for a secondary activity option with openings.

Waiver Policy

For insurance purposes, the Park District requires all participants, or legal guardians of minor participants, to sign a waiver before participating in a program. Inperson and mail-in registrants must sign the waiver on the registration form. Online registrants must agree to all waivers when checking out.

• Patrons may not participate in programs if the waiver is not signed and refunds will not be granted.

Refund Policy

Refund requests must be submitted online and refunds will NOT be issued once a program has ended. All refunds are subject to a $5 administration service fee except under the following circumstances:

• A request due to dissatisfaction that is approved by the program supervisor

• Refunds initiated by the Park District

• A request due to medical issues submitted with a doctor’s note

• Request to refund a particular date within a program that falls on a date that the resident honors as a religious holiday. Participants may either make up the missed class, if space exists, or have the fee pro-rated to reflect the missed date. The program supervisor can assist you with either option.

Needs for ADA Participants

If you need a special accommodation to participate in any Park District function, please provide details in the Special Accommodation section on the registration form, in the Special Needs inquiry during online registration, or contact Brian Meyer, Director of Recreation and Facilities, at BMeyer@ahpd.org.

Photo Policy

During Park District programs and activities, staff may photograph or record participants and nearby patrons. Program participants and anyone on Park District property thereby agrees that photographs and recordings taken by the Park District may be used by the Park District for promotional purposes including electronic and social media, brochures, flyers, and other publications without additional or prior notice or permission and without compensation to the participant.

As a Park District Resident, you:

• Receive resident rates when registering for Buffalo Grove Park District recreation programs but must register during non-resident registration dates. Adult athletic leagues and special revenue facilities are excluded.

• May receive discounted rates on “Learn to Skate” through Rolling Meadows Park District.

• May purchase ice skating passes (valid SeptemberMay) from Rolling Meadows Park District at resident rates.

Not all Village of Arlington Heights Residents are Park District Residents: We deliver the Program Guide to everyone within the boundaries of the Park District and individuals residing within AHPD boundaries qualify for resident rates. However, Park District boundaries do not mirror Village of Arlington Heights boundaries. To determine the Park District in which you reside, please consult your tax bill

We’d like to shine a spotlight on some of Arlington Heights Park District’s long-time staff members as they reminisce about their time here and reflect on the changes they’ve witnessed over the years

What drew you to the Arlington Heights Park District?

I had an internship with the Glenview Park District that I enjoyed very much. Near the end of that internship, one of the directors at Glenview told me about a Recreation Supervisor position opening at the Arlington Heights Park District. It seemed like a natural fit — and it was!

What was your first position with the District?

My first role at AHPD was as a Recreation Supervisor at Camelot. In that position, I was responsible for tasks such as forming athletic teams and overseeing aquatics.

What is the best memory or take away from your job?

I enjoy and appreciate that I’m still connected with former staff. I still see people who worked at Lake Arlington years ago. The team at Lake Arlington has always been very close-knit and I like to think I played a role in fostering an environment that encouraged that sense of community.

What transformation has surprised you the most (from the time you started until now)?

During my time at AHPD, I’ve witnessed an impressive evolution in leadership, projects and programs. The entire organization has grown tremendously! Throughout the years, I’ve always enjoyed being a part of it.

Jose Guiterrez, Opperations Supervisor-Grounds – 40 years

What drew you to the Arlington Heights Park District?

The opportunity to be part of something that truly impacts the community.

What was your first position in the District and your favorite thing about that role?

In the maintenance department, where I quickly became involved with the tree crew. I enjoy being outdoors, improving our parks and seeing the direct results of our work. I’ve also really appreciated the hands-on nature of the job—whether it was welding truck beds or helping to build athletic fields, every day brings something new.

What is the best memory or takeaway from your job?

Mentoring staff and being part of their growth. Watching team members develop and take on new challenges has been incredibly rewarding. I’ve also enjoyed the special projects—like building the Rosetta stone at North School Park and creating outdoor ice rinks.

What transformation has surprised you the most (from the time you started until now)?

How much the Park District has grown and evolved over time. From expanding facilities to improving athletic fields for sports like soccer, football, lacrosse, and rugby—it's been amazing to be part of that transformation.

Kevin Keister, Recreation Supervisor at Camelot & Lake Arlington – 30 years

What drew you to the Arlington Heights Park District?

I was born and raised in Arlington Heights and grew up in a swimming family. I loved the pools and wanted to teach swimming.

What was your first position with the District and your favorite thing about that role?

Swim instructor at the old Olympic Pool (now the ARC) in 2000. My favorite part was teaching water babies to love the water and their parents water safety.

What is the best memory or take away from your job?

My favorite memory of working at the park district was when I was recognized for raising donations to the Recreation Park project.

What transformation has surprised you the most (from the time you started until now)?

After 25 years as an employee with the park district, the biggest transformation is the staff structure and position titles (change is good).

What drew you to the Arlington Heights Park District?

Growing up near Recreation Park, the Park District was a big part of my life and felt like a second home. When I began job hunting as a teenager, joining the Park District was a natural choice to be part of something I already loved.

What was your first position with the District and your favorite thing about that role?

My first job was as an unpaid Swim Aid at Recreation Pool in the summer of 1987. As one of the neighborhood ‘pool rats’, I was excited to become one of the staff that I had long admired.

What is the best memory or take away from your job?

One of my best memories was running into a family at a hotel breakfast in Missouri who recognized me as their son’s basketball coach from Camelot Park — 15 years earlier when he was just 6, he was now graduating from Mizzou. It reminded me of the lasting impact we can have in this field.

We're so grateful to our amazing staff for making AHPD a place people truly enjoy — whether they come to play, relax, or be part of a great team!

The Arlington Heights Park District has a variety of facilities available to rent. Consider hosting your next occasion at the Park District – we’re looking forward to working with you.

What can you reserve?

• Meeting rooms

• Banquet rooms

• Picnic shelters

• Athletic fields

• Gyms

• Rental packages

Self-Esteem Through Fall Carnival Things Life Coaching

Whenever we try something new, we are building our self-esteem muscle. How children see themselves shapes their willingness to engage with the world. It is important to offer a variety of childhood opportunities for them to adopt an “I tried it, and I did it” mindset. Through the nostalgia of a fall carnival, kids learn how to make balloon animals, juggle, outsmart a carnival barker at the game booth and craft their own concession stand treat. This is the perfect workshop to kick off the school year to build their self-worth, all while socializing! Instructor: Lisa Lombardi Coaching Inc., lisalombardi.com. Drop your child off class. (CH)

32 | SWIM LESSONS

Group Swim Lessons

Session 1 is eight weeks and begins the week of September 7.

Session 2 is seven weeks and begins November 2. The classes below can be found on the grid on pages 34-35.

3-5

years | Junior Swim School

No Parent in Water

30 minutes

For most – it’s the first time a child enters a pool without a parent so we begin by making your child feel comfortable. This may look like simply focusing on getting their face and hair wet at first, which can be scary for some. Then progressing through supported floats, bobs, kick board use, and eventually swimming three yards with no assistance under water. Last five minutes of class – our instructors play a game.

5-9 years | Swim School

40 minutes

Swim School is a group environment to motivate your child. The teacher alternates between each child in the group. Our first level begins with correct face and body position, floats and opening eyes underwater without goggles. Your child then progresses through levels where all the swim strokes are introduced and eventually works toward treading in deep water (an essential life skill), dives and flip turns (if desired). The instructor typically plays a game using swim school skills or we have fun jumping off the diving boards for the last five minutes. Swim School is the perfect time for your child to push past any fears they may have going off the diving board for the first time. We have an instructor in the water to boost confidence. This is an amenity not possible during open swim.

Before your child’s first swimming lesson please review the following by scanning the QR code:

• Refund policy

• Make-up policy

Swim Lessons Code of

• Conduct (for everyone’s safety in the water)

• Why we strongly suggest no goggles for beginner swimmers

Semi-Private Swim Lessons NEW!

• Semi-Private Swim Lessons are each Saturday at 10:30AM for the session.

• Sign up for beginner or advanced.

• Your child is paired with one other child.

• Both children share one teacher for 30 minutes.

• The teacher follows the weekly lesson plans used for Swim School.

• There are no refunds or make-ups for missed classes.

• The swim lesson instructor may not be the same each week of the session. We do allow our staff to obtain substitutes if they cannot work.

Beginner class – for the child that cannot float or kick without assistance and is hesitant to go underwater or possibly afraid. The teacher takes turns working with each child.

Advanced class – for the child that can swim without assistance. Both children swim at the same time while the teacher corrects strokes. Individual time is given to each child as needed.

There is no option to pick your child’s teacher. If you prefer to hand select a specific teacher, check out PopUp Private Swim Lessons on the next page.

Before your child’s first swimming lesson, please review our Swim Lessons Code of Conduct by scanning the QR code on this page. ahpd.org/programs/aquatics/

Pop-Up Private Swim Lessons

An à la carte experience

• Designed so you can pick a specific teacher to make your child feel comfortable. An amenity not possible with group or semi-private swim lessons.

• Perfect for the young child who does not like a group environment for swim lessons.

• 30-minute swim lesson with private one-on-one attention. Accomplish a lot without the distraction of other kids in a group.

• You have the flexibility to pick what pool (wellness, lap, diving well) you want your child’s lesson in. An amenity not possible with group or semi-private lessons.

• Tell your instructor what you want to work on – or if you’re not sure, we come up with a plan together. Some people sign their kids up with one goal in mind such as: eliminating fear of water, going off diving board for the first time, or swim team strokes/ skills/endurance/breathing tips.

• Great compliment to Muskies or Otters Swim Teams.

• Sign up for one day or sign up for multiple days. If it’s your first time we recommend signing up for one lesson to make sure it’s the right fit for you or your child before investing in multiple lessons.

• Residents - $45

• Non-residents - $68

• Ages 3 through adult

66 | ADULT LEAGUES

The Park District offers adult leagues at a variety of competitive levels to accommodate players and teams with a range of recreational interests and abilities. All players must be 18 years or older.

Registration

One player registers an entire team and all fees are due at registration. Register for your preferred level and, if that level is full, register for the waitlist. Do NOT register for the wrong competitive level to get into a league. If you are a player looking to join a team, please contact the league supervisor.

Bracketing and Scheduling

Once registration closes, brackets and season schedules are created. Final brackets are determined by a variety of factors including, the number of teams registered and past season records.

• We try our best to evenly assign game time slots and cannot accommodate special schedule requests.

• Once schedules are finalized, we will email a schedule link, season information and team roster/ waiver instructions to the captain.

Rosters and Waivers

Your team roster also serves as the individual waiver for all players and a new roster with all players’ signatures must be submitted before the start of your first game EVERY season.
