Becoming Duchess Goldblatt by Anonymous Monday, February 1, 7–8 p.m. / Zoom

Becoming Duchess Goldblatt, written by an anonymous Twitter personality known to her fans as Duchess Goldblatt (@duchessgoldblat), is an inspiring memoir plumbing the depths of loss: lost marriage, lost job, lost house, lost friends. As we confront challenging losses in our own lives, many spurred on by the pandemic, we can turn to the Duchess for warmth and wit. Join us in reading and reflecting on experiences of grief, depression, survival and community.

FRIENDS & FOUNDATION Support the library.

The Arlington Heights Memorial Library Foundation is a not-for-profit, 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt organization that provides support to the library by securing and managing donations from individuals, businesses and foundations to support the library above and beyond what public funding provides. Learn more at ahml.info/about/foundation.

The AHML Foundation is looking for the community to support one of four different initiatives this fiscal year: Senior and Accessible Services, Services to Youth and Families, Makerspace and Where the need is greatest. This month, Senior and Accessible Services are featured.

Your contribution to the Senior and Accessible Services fund will improve the library’s ability to reach some of our best customers who have enjoyed library visits and materials for decades but have become unable to continue those visits.

To support this or other library services, visit the Foundation website at ahmlfoundation.org/donate or send a check to:

AHML Foundation, c/o Treasurer 500 N. Dunton Ave. Arlington Heights, IL 60004.

SENIOR & ACCESSIBLE SERVICES

The library operates a Reading Room at the Arlington Heights Senior Center with popular materials available for checkout and provides unique events, programs and technology classes for older adults.

Virtual and phone-in discussions, online art sessions with supply kits available at the library’s drive-up window, and essential tech classes with individualized assistance have helped our most vulnerable and isolated customers maintain and even build connections in today’s environment.

Library delivery services (in demand now, more than ever) provides advisory services and deliveries of books, music, movies and more to persons unable to visit the library or bookmobile due to a temporary or permanent condition and supports customers with disabilities in obtaining free services like Talking Books. Each month, materials and programming are supplied to residents and staff in assisted senior living, skilled nursing, and memory care communities throughout the village.

The library’s bookmobile also visits Cedar Village, Luther Village and the Moorings of Arlington Heights senior communities.

The library routinely evaluates and adds new assistive devices to our collections for residents to borrow and works to enhance library accessibility for all users, most recently through the addition of live closed captioning for popular virtual programs.
